A mutual friend was dismissed from 🦉 camp when he was asked who his connect is. According to him, those who could not mention a verifiable connect were all dismissed. Immediately you mention your connect, they will ring him/her for confirmation. |

I understand what you’re saying, and I’m not disputing that people may have been withdrawn from the camp. My concern is just that we should be careful about stating the reason as a confirmed fact when we may not have the official details. For banned substances or drugs, that one is understandable if they tested positive, especially where such substances are prohibited by the recruitment/training rules. For alcohol, however, I think there is an important distinction. As far as I know, alcohol itself is not generally an illegal substance in Nigeria. Therefore, if the camp has a rule prohibiting alcohol possession or consumption, a trainee can certainly be disciplined or withdrawn for violating that rule. But that is different from saying that testing positive for alcohol automatically means the person has committed an offence. Also, an alcohol test can only tell us what the particular test is capable of detecting and within its relevant detection window. It doesn't necessarily establish when the person consumed the alcohol. So unless we know the type of test used, when it was administered, and the specific camp rules governing alcohol, I think it is better not to draw conclusions beyond the available information. I personally don't take alcohol and haven't taken it for years, so I'm not defending alcohol consumption. My point is simply that we should distinguish between illegal substances, violation of camp regulations, and general alcohol consumption. There may also be other reasons for withdrawal, such as gross indiscipline or other breaches of the camp's code of conduct. If the authorities have officially communicated the reasons, then that would give us something concrete to discuss. No disrespect to anyone sharing information here. I just think we should be careful not to create unnecessary fear among people who are currently in the process. |

| Re: Monthly Net Salary Of Federal Government Ministries, departaments, Agencies And P by Boulder(m): 1:35pm On Sep 20 |
Nelly9kelly:They were dismissed for the usual reasons; 1. Physical unfitness 2. Gross indiscipline and professional misconduct 3. Conduct unbecoming a federal officer 4. Failure to pass various tests and examinations 5. Medical mishaps 🦉 training is very rigorous. Personnel have passed on during promotion exercises. |
| Re: Monthly Net Salary Of Federal Government Ministries, departaments, Agencies And P by Nelly9kelly(m): 2:03pm On Sep 20 |
Yes, I understand this point, and this is actually close to what I was trying to say. I have no doubt that 🦉 training is rigorous and that trainees can be withdrawn for physical unfitness, indiscipline, professional misconduct, failure in examinations, medical issues and other breaches of the training requirements. My concern is specifically about the earlier statement that *hundreds have so far been dismissed* mainly because they tested positive for alcohol and drugs. Unless that information is coming from an official source or someone with direct knowledge of the exercise, I think we should be careful about presenting it as an established fact. I also think we need to distinguish between alcohol consumption, an alcohol test, and violation of camp regulations. For example, suppose someone drank alcohol at home on Tuesday, received a call-up letter on Friday and reported to camp on Monday. If the camp subsequently conducts a particular alcohol related test, depending on the type of test, it may be capable of detecting recent alcohol exposure or an alcohol biomarker beyond the period when the person is actually intoxicated. So a positive result does not automatically tell us, by itself, when or where the alcohol was consumed. Likewise, if someone drank alcohol on Monday and was subjected to an ordinary breath or blood alcohol test a month later, we obviously cannot assume that the test would still show the alcohol. Different tests have different detection windows. Some specialized biomarkers can detect evidence of alcohol exposure for considerably longer, but that still does not necessarily establish the exact date or location of consumption. So if the actual 🦉 regulation says that trainees must abstain completely from alcohol from a particular point, and a particular test is being used to enforce that rule, then that is a separate matter. A trainee may be disciplined for violating the conditions of training. My point is therefore not that alcohol should be tolerated in intelligence training. I actually agree that intelligence personnel are expected to demonstrate a very high level of discipline, self control and professionalism. My point is simply that we should not automatically equate *tested positive for alcohol* with *this person drank alcohol inside the camp*, unless we know the test used, its detection window, the circumstances and the specific regulation being enforced. For example, if someone is dismissed because they were caught drinking alcohol inside camp, that is quite straightforward, there is an identifiable act and a specific rule that was violated. But if someone is dismissed solely because of a positive laboratory result, then it is reasonable to ask what exactly that test establishes. The same principle applies to drugs and other misconduct. If there is an official statement giving the reasons for the withdrawals, then that would give us something concrete to discuss. I'm not trying to defend alcohol consumption or dispute the seriousness of 🦉 training. I am only saying that, especially when information is being shared among people who are currently going through recruitment, we should distinguish between confirmed information, camp regulations, test results and assumptions about what those results mean. No disrespect intended to anyone sharing information here. I just believe accuracy is important, particularly when the information could create unnecessary fear among trainees. Boulder: |
