ISWAP Attacks Military Base In Borno, Kills Seven Soldiers, Burns Gun Trucks by iwaeda(op): 3:42pm On Sep 18
Militants of the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jama'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihad have launched a deadly attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, headquarters of Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

SaharaReporters gathered that the terrorists struck at about 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, targeting the military base in the town.

Gajiram, situated in northern Borno State, roughly 82 kilometres from the state capital, Maiduguri, has experienced recurrent security challenges and attempted incursions by insurgent groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP.

Military sources told SaharaReporters that the insurgents during Thursday's attack, engaged troops in a fierce gun battle, killing seven soldiers during the confrontation.

"In Gajiram, seven soldiers were killed," a source said.

According to sources, the terrorists temporarily overpowered the base and set ablaze military gun trucks and other logistics before reinforcement arrived.

"The attack was serious. Seven of our soldiers were killed. They burnt our gun truck and some logistics inside the base before air component support came," another source added.

Sources said with the help of the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, troops on the ground were able to repel the attackers.

Military authorities are yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.

Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province, have killed thousands and displaced millions in northeastern Nigeria.

The Nigerian military has repeatedly claimed that the insurgency has been largely defeated and frequently downplays any losses.

In recent months, soldiers have been targeted by insurgents.

Don't worry the VP Shettima promised to handle insecurity while the world renowned accountant will take care of the economy. Unfortunately the two of them have failed the country. Boko Haram and ISWAP have taken over majority of states in the North while the economy is in shambles. If you like allow them to rig the the election again in 2027. sad sad

The more reason why we should allow God to forgive terrorists if He so wills, while we ensure that they get their due reward here on earth. Heartless criminals.

The fact that there was air support reinforcements shows that things are changing.
Before now Soldiers have complained that they did not get air support during hours of battles.

May the souls of our fallen heroes continue to rest in peace.

Burn the camps is on again. Looks like ISWAP are back on the attack. We gotta look at the security architecture again. Are the super camps working, probably not cos we keep losing our soldiers.

The moment ISIS took over Boko-Haram and split into ISWAP it beacame a full scale war. The US killed Al-Manuki and left now ISWAP are back on the attack again.

Fighting ISWAP is no easy take for sure but the Nigerian military need to take the fight to these guys on the Lake Chad islands.

Boko -Haram can get a cease fire but ISWAP don’t look like they want one. They want a caliphate.

We need a leader that can deal with these guys. Tinubu doesn’t care about the security of Nigerians.

I said what I said

But isn't there anything the Vice President who is from that state can do to stop this.

Doesn't he have any iota of grassroots influence to convene a dialogue.

I mean. They say he is popular, they say he has electoral value. Of what use is all that if he cannot reach the roots where this cancer mushrooms from.

Nigeria have reached the stage where a whole state might be wiped out by terrorist and every other person will continue life as if nothing happened. No one will even act as if something happened.

Preachers wll still preach on why this govt is better.

Presidential spoke persons will come and tell you why oppositions shouldn't rule Nigeria.

The president himself will travel out for vacation.

Security heads will threaten citizens who make post on SM.

Then the citizens who try to talk, other citizens will come out and say they are trying to tarnish the image of Nigeria.

What a shame of a nation.

If not that we have weaklings at the elms of affair.

This bastards carry out such atrocities and wickedness going as far as attacking the military base and some persons with leakages in their brain up there would still go ahead to grant amnesty or tagged it “repentant terrorist”

The present and past government keeps failing in terms of security…just take a look at the president he keeps traveling to France to do what exactly?

Everyday in Nigeria is one problem to another but the data and city boys will tell you otherwise because their own foolishness and short thought is inbuilt.
