I have said this over and over. There are more teams that use 3 at the back than you know. Pep and Xavi are prime examples of elite managers that have deployed 3ATB consistently and won trophies.

Below is the map of average positions of the CL title-winning PSG. Just because they are not fielding wing backs does not mean they are not playing 3ATB.

It's never a 3ATB issue when there is quality. Chelsea has a quality problem.

I don't think Xavi should be considered as an elite coach. Xavi as Barca coach couldn't get us to knock out stages of UCL. We migrated to second tier UEFA tournament & got knocked out by Frankfurt & Man United on two occasion.

Pep in Barca never used 3@B as his MAIN tactical strategy. It was mainly due to suspensions and injury to key players. Then he will deploy Busquet as a center back. Once his gala eleven is available, he will go back to four defenders.
