Every refinery is an integrated petrochemical complex meaning that as it refines for petro, there are other byproduct comes out before petrol which are useful in making other products like clothes, fertilizer, etc does dangote have the comparative advantage to delve into clothes or fertilizer production?

For Dangote refinery to make money, putting into consideration foreign exchange rates, the refinery makes more profit when the cost of fuel at the pumps go up. Let's assume the price of CRUDE OIL goes from $100 to $120 the refinery will buy crude oil from the FG/NNPC at $120, refine it and sell it at a more expensive price.

And there IS NO DOUBT THAT DANGOTE REFINERY IS USELESS AS FUEL IS BEING PHASED OUT GLOBALLY, many countries in the middle east are losing their refineries to war, same applies to RUSSIA/Ukraine, China has completed phased it out, UK & Europe and US are phasing it out gradually. The refinery will eventually become useless.

It's seems youare more angry that I am a BROKER AND FINTECH EXPERT 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your argument is still not valid, and very shallow. Out of the countries you mentioned, it is only China that has made far reaching commitments to phase out fossil fuels. 20 years from now, there will still be demand for refined products. You are only emphasizing on petrol, without examining the entire value chain . Your investment analysis is poor for a person who calls himself a financial expert.

I didn't buy any either. I will wait till end of next year when the price would crash and buy it as he starts to dump his stock.

He is going to sell off the refinery to the government eventually 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I did not and do not intend to buy shares in the Dangote Refinery for personal reasons. That does not mean those who choose to invest are gullible. But nonetheless I will give reasons why you're wrong.

1. On the claim that Dangote's investment is poorly timed because the world is moving away from petrol, Your point is flawed because it overlooks the fact that the Dangote Refinery is an integrated petrochemical complex, not a pure petrol plant.

In addition to gasoline, it produces jet fuel for aviation, LPG for households, asphalt for construction, and petrochemical feedstocks for plastics and other industries.

Do you think an experienced industrialist of Aliko Dangote’s track record won't consider market trends?

Global oil demand forecasts from OPEC, EIA, and others all point to continued demand or modest decline not outright phase out that you as an armchair expert just predicted.

2. Your submission that an increase in Dangote refinery share price will result to an increase in cost of living cannot be verified substantially because there is no direct, automatic link between the refinery’s share price and Nigerian living costs. Living costs are influenced by many factors such as exchange rates, fiscal policy, logistics, taxes, and global commodity prices.

It is the job of the government to protect its citizens from economic shocks that might result from global changes in oil prices through subsides and other economic measures as done in other countries.

The two variables do not correlate in any way.

3. That shows that you don't understand Nigerians enough to know that those content are just cruise.

concerning the nature of agreement, it is called passive investment and it is a standard passive equity ownership common worldwide.

it is allows the entrepreneur, management or controlling shareholder to execute strategy without excessive bureaucracy While giving investors access to the company financial benefits.

DANGOTE has read the handwriting on the wall so the decided to go public with his refinery IPO. Now let's look at the reality on ground:

1. Why is DANGOTE going public with the IPO?
I know it is hard to believe but you must understand that after the second world War and the formation of OPEC, The global CRUDE OIL supply became an international product i.e the price of a barrel of crude oil in Saudi or Iran or Venezuela will be the same with the Price of a Barrel of CRUDE OIL in Nigeria. Sometimes there are slight differentials in price but the difference is never more or less above or below $20. So with the war raging in the middle east and has driven the price of CRUDE OIL to over $120/barrel, Fuel at the pump has become more expensive and the war will not stop anytime soon and there is a possibility that we will experience an energy crisis due to fuel being very expensive and unaffordable. There is a possibility that a barrel of CRUDE OIL will hit $500/barrel in 3-4yrs. This is part of the process of phrasing out fossil fuel i.e petrol from being used globally like was done in China and being implemented in the UK. So DANGOTE has read the handwriting on the wall and decided to sell the Petrol refinery to the Nigeria people who ignorantly and blindly rushed it without thinking. Olodo uprising indeed.

2. Will you make profit from the buying into the DANGOTE IPO?
Yes, of course you will. But this is how it will happen; Due to exchange rate differentials, since the war in the middle east and Ukraine_Russia isn't ending anytime soon, it is projected that oil price will continue to go up hence, as oil prices skyrocket and the price of refined oil i.e Fuel at the pumps also continues to rise, you can expect you shares in DANGOTE REFINERY to continue to go up. Basically, as DANGOTE REFINERY SHARES PRICE goes up, cost of living for NIGERIANS WILL GO UP.

3. I see all these content creators and even other Nigerians talking about how they are monitoring DANGOTE trucks and calling DANGOTE, etc
All I have to say is that 99% of Nigerians are olodos. Go and read the agreement, find out what kind of share holder you are and stop disgracing yourselves. When you buy shares in the Dangote Refinery IPO, you become a part-owner of the company, but your role is strictly hands-off. You have no say in the day to day running of the company. #olodouprising.
How can someone with just one single share in a company have a say (the same say) as those with hundreds of thousands of shares, or millions of shares?

Are you sure you are a broker, financial advisor etc? Abi you are just an attention seeker, going by your previous threads huh

If the masses are gullible what about the institutional investors, the likes of Elumelu, Davido and other billionaires who bought 6% of the shares ($2.5B) in July thru Private Placement. Would you say they are gullible?
Bulk of the shares were bought by wealthy Nigerians that's why it will be over subscribed. it is definitely a GOOD investment

I didn't read this your article having checked your nairaland history and found your article only on Romance. Which means by profession you said you are a stockbroker but a freelance writer on Romance.

I didn't want to talk about Dangote Refinery's IPO because there are many institutional investors and several other private investors involved. Your article and another topic asking questions about why CHINESE didn't reduce the prices of their Cement is almost the same and from the same people with the same negative mindset. When some people advised Government to ban Chinese from Retail businesses in Nigeria and we responded that Government should allow them because of their ongoing investment in Warehouses and Factories in Nigeria. They asked us why is Chinese not venturing into Cement Business. We know they asked the question because of DANGOTE. From that question we know they are traders and not informed. When they were told Chinese spent $1 billion to acquire the largest shares in Lafarge Nigeria, they became confused and resorted to attacks on Facebook.

You and the person asking about why CHINESE didn't reduce price of their Cement in Nigeria are too inexperienced for the tasks given to you.

From the topic, since I didn't read the article, you want to waste people's time and interest. Dangote Refinery is a Critical National Asset despite being a Private initiative. It was people and investors that have been asking him about when the shares would be sold before he went to Stock Market.

Dangote advertisement in New York “Made in Nigeria. Built for the world,” is a celebration of Nigeria as a Nation.

It's a shame really. He made 1.5 trillion in just one hour.
You & your over sabi friend said so much without making any sense or say something thats strike negative

1st his projection Fuel price will go beyond $100 per barrel is has no leg ...over 20years check the increment price rate never as it crossed 100%

In 2022 fuel price went as high as $120 per barrel cos of russia ukraine war but it came down to the point Nigeria 2025 budget can benchmark $65 per barrel
That concern that fuel price will surge pass $100+ is mere baseless ... The worst surge is worst nd we have seen worst ... Cant be more than we have seen

lastly, he talk about public not having a say, which kind mvmu talk be that ... Are All goin to have say becos we bought shares is that how shares work,

You are a mere investor your token is working for you nd fetches you a relative dividend thats the catch

I didn't buy dangote share because i want to dictate how dangote run or how much it sells, what matter to any shareholder is ROI or dividend

So the OP is just being unnecessarily alarmist

Don't mind the armchair critique wannabe financial analysis. He's looking at the refinery from the point of petrol and diesel.
Are the planes, ships, heavy industries and mobile equipments going electric all of a sudden?
The refinery is producing inputs to pharmaceutical, textiles, military, cosmetics industries, including fertiliser production etc.
All the shareholders/co-owners of companies all over the world started like this. My only advice is to invest only what you can afford. Everything in life is about risk taking.

I hope you are really a financial adviser otherwise you would have known only about 4% of the total dangote refinery share is offered for sales and institutional buyers may have snapped more than half of that. Many people won't be alloted requested shared when is oversubscribed. Also, Dangote alone can not fixed the share worth for his company. There are independent valuation experts and Government (SEC) that value the comapany and create a range of share price. Dangote may have gun for the high end of this range. There is something called goodwill tool. Dangote has a lot of it and you pay premium for that.

Bottomline, if you feel the company is going down, Dangote and his big investors would be 96% under water too and slip badly from the forbes billionaire club. The public will only suffer 4% of bad market.

Also are you saying that all the industries and aircrafts around the world will be electric powered. You think petroleum products will extinct in your own imagination.
Cars going electric does not been manufacturing industries, airplanes and many others will be electric battery powered.

Who is now the real OLODO UPRISING

Don't reply them, they are from a particular place that seems all news as bad news except it benefits them.
It seems you are new to nairaland
OAkanni001:
Then you and the OP are almost the same in that you don't understand how the stock market works.

The market is not meant for a quick profit turnaround or a get rich quick scheme.

It is mostly suited as either a retirement plan with investment on a continuous basis like monthly, quarterly or more.

OR.......

You invest one large sum once and for all and live off the dividend annually.

I said earlier that I can't invest in it because I know there are better alternatives out there to make money but I insist that the IPO is not nonsense for those who better understand the market and the company they're investing in.

So, what you will rather say is that most people are getting into something they have little knowledge about not attack the IPO itself.

In fact those wealthy ones might lose too but they understand that it is part of the game.

Wetin i wan talk be say anyone wey buy shares of 100k, 200k, 300k or 500k ya moni do go be dat de even de pipu wey buy shares of 1millon naira na small profit dem fit make like maybe 10k profit depending on the global financial up or down. And the 10k profit sef na like after 1 or 2 years wey pesin invest 1 million dem go still tax you out of de 10k depending on which contiri Dangote register his refinery company, for example, if na America im register his company na American tax system go charge you tax. Sometimes sef pesin wey buy shares go lose im entire investment.

Na so me i dey understand am oo! E get one time wet i buy shares of £500 for ASDA supermarket after 3 years wen i see say my investment don minus from £500 wey i invest down to £350 grin na so say haba! I no do again i wan witdraw de £350 dem still tax me out of de £350 dem say na American company so de tax na American tax system anyway, dem tell me say mek i find pesin wey go buy my share for at least £400 or even de original £500 wey i invest, i no see anybody

So i witdraw my £350 wit lose of £150 after 3 years of buying de share cheesy dem try convince me say mek i no witdraw say share fit go up next year i fit mek profit if dat happen.

I say NO! Naso dem tax me even say i dey lose £150 dem stil tax me out of de £350, i come end up wit around £260 after de tax na so i lose £240 dem say na interest rate cause am..

Anyway, una wey buy into Dangote fit make plenty profit, mek una just get patience. And good luck to una! grin
