PETER OBI AND THE ABA TRADER SYNDROME

Let me explain something I call the Aba Trader Syndrome.

And before somebody deliberately misunderstands me, this is not an insult to Aba traders. Aba is one of Nigeria's great monuments to indigenous enterprise, ingenuity and hustle.

I am talking about a particular sales technique.

You enter a market looking for a shoe. The trader brings one out. “Original?” “Oga, ORIGINAL!”

“Leather?” “Correct Italian leather!” “Will it last?” “Oga, wear am for ten years. If anything happen, BRING AM BACK!”

That last sentence is the magic. BRING AM BACK!

The trader knows something about human psychology. The sheer audacity of the guarantee begins to function as evidence for the product.

You start thinking:If he isn't absolutely certain, why would he make such a reckless promise? Exactly. The confidence becomes part of the merchandise. The confidence is the main contrick.

That is what increasingly fascinates me about Peter Obi's political communication. Obi doesn't merely make claims.

He frequently packages them with performative certainty .

“Go and verify.” “Check it.” “Bring the records.” “If anybody establishes anything contrary, I will stop campaigning.”

Notice what happens psychologically. The challenge itself begins to substitute for verification.

Many listeners conclude: A MAN WHO IS ASKING YOU TO VERIFY MUST ALREADY HAVE VERIFIED HIMSELF.

But that precisely is the 419 part of the Aba Trader syndrome.

This technique was particularly effective during Obi's national emergence. Nigeria was exhausted with conventional politicians.
Then came a politician armed with numbers.

Cost of food abroad. Government expenditure. Savings. Investments. Debt. Bank balances. And that devastating refrain: GO AND VERIFY. The gullibles - especially the youths ate it up.

It created the image of a man so certain of his facts that he was practically handing his opponents the shovel with which to investigate him.

So how do we define the “ABA TRADER SYNDROME” It is the political sales technique where the boldness of the warranty DECEPTIVELY & FRAUDULENTLY becomes part of the proof of the product.

But there is a problem . You can fool some of the people some of the time but YOU CANNOT FOOL ALL THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME

“Oga, take am home!” “Test am!” “Bring am back if e no work!” Wonderful.

And that is where Peter Obi's “Aba Trader Syndrome” appears to have developed a serious problem.

It worked brilliantly in 2023. The sales pitch was confident. The warranty was spectacular: GO AND VERIFY!
The confidence itself became part of the merchandise.

But 2027 is different.

THE CUSTOMERS HAVE STARTED RETURNING WITH THE GOODS.

Many of the people around him in 2023 are no more. He has failed the PROXIMITY TEST woefully.

Obi complained about his treatment at Abuja airport; Keyamo went to the CCTV. Obi's Anambra debt narrative came under challenge; Anambra went to the debt records. Staunch obidients like ojy Okpe , Rufai oseni and Ayo , all of Arise news have started asking the Tough questions and troblesome follow-up

Obi sat opposite Seun Okinbaloye to sell the presidential product again; the questions increasingly moved beyond slogans to plans, records and specifics.

That is the nightmare of every salesman whose greatest weapon is supreme confidence: THE CUSTOMER RETURNS.With the product in one hand and the receipt in the other.

And suddenly: “Oga, trust me!” is no longer enough.

That, perhaps, is Peter Obi's biggest political problem approaching 2027.

In 2023, millions encountered the salesman. By 2027, many have had time to inspect the merchandise.

The warranty now has footnotes. The slogans now have follow-up questions. The numbers now have spreadsheets.

And “Go and Verify” has acquired the four most dangerous words Peter Obi could possibly hear: WE WENT AND VERIFIED.

THE DAYS WHEN THE CONFIDENCE OF THE SALESMAN COULD SUBSTITUTE FOR INSPECTION OF THE GOODS ARE OVER.

Peter Obi and obidients - Welcome to the returns counter.

Apt 👌 and very nice write up!

The fact is that that kind of syndrome can only sell once to wise people. He sold it in 2023 and wouldn’t fly again.

Obi is a rare kind of leader. He brings deep experience and practical knowledge from business and trading. Governing a country is not unlike running a serious enterprise: you must know when to spend, when to save, and how to grow value without waste. The skills that matter are straightforward. Thrift. Investment in development rather than consumption. A determined reduction in the cost of overhead (government). Truthfulness. Care for people. Compassion. Discipline. Obi brings these, and more, to the table. Nigeria will not move forward without a leader who actually possesses them. Give a chance to a man who built a multi-million-dollar business through hard work and resilience, whose wealth is clean and free of corruption. How much longer will we play tribal politics while the worst among us keep winning? I know you are undermining trading as an inferior kind of vocation, but it is not.
Re: Peter Obi And The Aba Trader Syndrome. by Ofunaofu: 10:03am On Sep 19
Obi is a trader, he has said so severally, and he’s proud of it.

Op, you’re a Tinubu supporter, so what exactly was Tinubu’s job before politics?

A notorious drug baron, a thief, a forger, Someone who forfeited over $460,000 in alleged drug proceeds to the U.S. government?

And now that a U.S. court has been asked to make the drug proceeds forfeiture records public, he is telling the court that releasing them would cause further irreparable damage to his already damaged image.

So, if being a trader is your biggest problem with Obi, perhaps tell us what your preferred candidate was doing before politics.

Obi understands that African kids especially GenZ were raised with false stories and lies like masquerade coming out of ant hole, the story of tortoise and elephant etc. Obi strategically targeted the GenZ who grew up listening to cock and bull tails. His campaigns were never for older adults and reasonable people. The GenZ should have the highest number of voters in Nigeria and if elections are free and fair, he will have it using this strategy

And what are the customers returning with in 2027?
That he borrowed money when the facts states otherwise.
Between OBI and Tinubu who has messed up the country in the last three and half years, who should be under a bigger scrutiny by the ' customer ' ?

.
Please, I have been searching high and low for this information where:

1) a U.S. court has been asked to make the drug proceeds forfeiture records public,

2) he is telling the court that releasing them would cause further irreparable damage

Can you show me an interview of anyone connected to the case or court records that were dated, signed and court sealed?

I wouldn't want you to be accused of being a typical Obidient peddling false information that you pulled out of your rear.

Which God sent Peter Obi to rescue Nigeria? Ordinary small anambra, the God couldn't help his messiah rescue his people but it is Nigeria, he want to rescue.

Similar to how Zik lied bluntly at Aba in 1949 saying the God of Africa has specifically chosen the igbo people to rescue the rest of us from tribulations. Fast forward, 7 and a half decades later, and the supposedly saviour of Africa are been chased away, from Ghana to SA, from Togo to Ethopia, kenya ati bebelo.

I would have clapped for charles But knowing You support nd believe in Tinubu even when its clear he is Overrated shows you are an Hypocrite or Just an agent of deciet

How is Peter Obi go n verify different from Tinubu built Lagos

in the 2023 campaign season the Most convincing logic to sell Tinubu was ...Tinubu built Lagos
Since he became president it has really opened the eyes of Nigerians, how do you remove subsidy and share Rice to ameliorate.

We normal brag Tinubu as a master blue print for lagos ... Stealing Fashola and ambode success for Tinubu

Since the emergence of an empty skull sanwo olu ...why have we not seen continuation of the blue print

The truth is Fashola and Ambode worked with their own blue print, sanwo olu came with nothing thats why is tenure is so empty

Tinubu left a bigger debt in lagos, cost and standard of living in lagos skyrocketed, just as they are discrediting OBi

The axe can't chop me down because it will thankfully chop down all Obidients first and by the time it turns to me, as I am not an APC anything, it would have been blunt and I would have survived.

“Original?” “Oga, ORIGINAL!” “Leather?” “Correct Italian leather!” “Will it last?” “Oga, wear am for ten years.

That is your INCORRIGIBLE, BRAZEN, BLATANT, BAREFACED, SERIAL, CALCULATED, PATHOLOGICAL, SHAMELESS, UNREPENTANT LIAR — PETER IRỌ́LÁBÍ IRỌ́GBẸ́MÍ OBI for you in a nutshell.
NEXT FROM CharlesCNG: PETER OBI AND THE POLITICAL EQUIVALENCE OF SECTION 419 OF THE CRIMINAL CODE.

Obidients: UNA GO ABUSE ME TIRE!!
He is your president you can take that to the market. If you don't like it go back to odua Nation.

My brother, you are answering an argument I DID NOT MAKE.

Did Tinubu leave Lagos with debt? YES. Historical DMO data show Lagos had substantial external debt near the end of his tenure.

Did Tinubu personally “build Lagos” single-handedly? NO.

Fashola deserves credit for Fashola's achievements. Ambode deserves credit for Ambode's. Sanwo-Olu deserves credit—or criticism—for his own record.

In fact, Lagos State's own development documents show CONTINUITY: Tinubu's 10-Point Agenda and LASEEDS, later planning under Fashola, and subsequent long-term development plans.

So where is the hypocrisy? My argument about Peter Obi is precisely the opposite.

I am not attacking Obi because Anambra had debt. GOVERNMENTS BORROW. LAGOS BORROWED. ANAMBRA BORROWED.

The issue is what you CLAIM about that debt. If Tinubu said:

“I LEFT LAGOS COMPLETELY DEBT-FREE. GO AND VERIFY. IF YOU FIND ONE KOBO OF DEBT, I WILL QUIT POLITICS,” then somebody produced DMO records showing debt, I would expect Tinubu to ANSWER THAT CLAIM.

That is the Peter Obi issue. You people keep running to Tinubu because you don't want to remain inside Obi's own challenge.

Obi supplied a bank. Obi supplied an account number. Obi supplied ₦2.13 billion. Obi said GO AND VERIFY.

Obi voluntarily said if contrary evidence were established, he would stop campaigning. Now Anambra says it verified the account and obtained records contradicting his story.

Your answer? “BUT TINUBU BUILT LAGOS!” that is not rebuttal. That is evacuation.

And your claim that Sanwo-Olu represents complete discontinuity is also difficult to square with reality. Whatever anybody thinks of his overall performance, his administration completed and opened the Blue Line's first phase and developed the Red Line; Lagos's current development framework explicitly builds upon earlier plans.

But none of these lagos diversion things deposits ₦2.13 billion into Peter Obi's disputed First Bank account.

PLEASE ASK THE BRAZEN, BLATANT, SERIAL and UNREPENTANT LIAR, Peter Irọ́lábí Irọ́gbẹ́mí Gregory Obi, to ANSWER THE QUESTION HE WAS ASKED.

Rufai Oseni and Ayo are waiting for him in ARISE studio.
