I think last year's event they deliberately made it impossible for him to use it and he prepared himself for such eventualities this year. However, one thing I know is other parts of the world you have to have the brains to becime a president or prime minister. You can be bad but you can't be a dullard.

if China want Taiwan tomorrow USA cant stop her. How on earth are you expecting USA to risk Washington for Taipei ? As much as China won't like to have a direct military confrontation with USA, USA will find any possible means to avoid military confrontation with a super power
