Former governor say World Bank and IFAD development funds no be ordinary loans wey he personally collect for Anambra Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, don respond to the renewed controversy over debt linked to his time for office, saying the $123.77 million figure being associated with his administration no accurately represent debt wey he personally borrowed for the state. Obi, in a statement, say e remain silent over the matter in recent days because e dey mourn the death of im elder brother and friend, Chief Okey Ezeibe. He, however, say e don decide to address the issue and urged Nigerians to focus more on the challenges wey dey affect citizens rather than political distractions. Obi Say E No Borrow Money or Issue Bond According to Obi, during im time as Anambra governor, e no approach any financial institution to borrow money or issue bond on behalf of the state. He also refer to former Director-General of the Debt Management Office (DMO), Abraham Nwankwo, saying Nwankwo once appointed am chairman at his farewell ceremony and stated that Obi was the only governor among his contemporaries who had not approached him for a loan facility. Obi further maintain say when e leave office on March 17, 2014, Anambra no owe unpaid salaries, gratuities or pensions, and that contractors and suppliers wey had completed and received certification for their work had been paid. Obi Explain World Bank, IFAD Funds The former governor say some of the funds now being described as “debt owed by Peter Obi” were actually concessionary development-support funds secured by the Federal Government for states selected to participate in specific programmes. He explain say repayment for such development financing dey spread over long periods, generally between 25 and 30 years. Obi therefore ask the Anambra State Government to separate three different figures: The total amount approved for each multiyear development programme; The amount Anambra actually drew during his administration; and The amount outstanding when he handed over in March 2014. He argue say combining the figures and presenting the resulting $123.77 million as loans “left by Peter Obi” no reflect the distinction between approved facilities, actual drawdowns and outstanding obligations. Recent reporting on the dispute has also highlighted this distinction, noting that the $123.77 million figure represents the original value of eight facilities cited by the Anambra government, while the amount actually drawn before Obi left office is a separate question. Obi Question DMO Debt Figures Obi also challenge the interpretation of DMO figures being used in the debate. He say DMO records showed Anambra's external debt at about $18 million when he started as governor in March 2006, about $30 million when he left office in March 2014, and approximately $45.15 million by December 2014. He therefore ask the Anambra State Government to explain how the state could have inherited the full $123.77 million as debt from his administration when the DMO figures cited in the statement showed a much lower total external debt stock around the period he left office. Recent reporting and analysis have similarly pointed to historical DMO figures showing Anambra's external debt around $30 million at the end of 2013 and higher figures later in 2014. Anambra Government Earlier Release Loan Records The controversy followed the Anambra State Government's release of records identifying eight external loan facilities associated with projects implemented during the Obi administration. The state government said the facilities were originally valued at about $123.77 million, with $92.35 million still outstanding as of June 30, 2026. It linked the facilities to projects covering areas including malaria control, agriculture, healthcare, education, community development and erosion management. The state has maintained that the records show outstanding obligations inherited by successive administrations, while Obi disputes the description of the facilities as conventional loans personally secured by him. Obi Also Speak on Politics Obi also say e no get disagreement with Governor Chukwuma Soludo or any governor in Nigeria. He clarify that he no dey seek governorship position in any state and no go seek the office again, even if the Constitution changes. He also appeal to governors to allow presidential candidates and other contestants to campaign freely in their states, saying voters should be allowed to decide who they want to represent them. The former governor say the ongoing debt debate should therefore be examined through the actual approval, drawdown, effectiveness and repayment records of each development facility. The disagreement remains unresolved, with the Anambra government relying on its interpretation of debt records and Obi challenging how the figures have been presented. Your Gringori doesn't even know what macroeconomy means. Can you believe that! Someone hoping to become the president couldn't mention ONE macroeconomic index!😆 |

FSBoperator:It is unfortunate that you allowed hatred to be loud your reasoning. At this juncture, it is no longer about Peter Obi, politics, or political affiliations. This is now about honesty, integrity, and public scrutiny on the nation we call ours. I agree that Nigerian politicians have destroyed my era. But I don't want my children to be plunged into the same fate. I equally agree that my understanding and position will never be the same as yours. And I am not questioning or trying to question you about that. We all have our honest divergent views. After all, one man's detest is another's delight. Since 2015 APC has taken over the mantle of leadership, and I have compared and contrasted the gains and losses of Nigeria just like everyone, we have all taken a position. More so, since 2023 Tinubu has been in power, and I have equally assessed his performance just like you have done. In all honesty, I detest his leadership and I noticed that you are very pleased with his performance. It is all about divergent choice, views, and assessment. Be that as it may, having established our choices. In the spirit of sincere prayer, I pray that my family and I will never experience anything like Tinubu's governance in our lives. May our (my family and I's) dreams be like that of the integrity of Peter Obi. On the other hand, may you and your family continue to experience Tinubu's leadership and may your (you and your family) future never be like the integrity of Peter Obi. Let it be like I tergrity of Tinubu! I say 'So shall it be' (Amen) to this prayer as I equally await your affirmation. |

Jiokejohn:Jargons. Well, I trust Soludo to respond to this latest lie from Giringori denying blatantly that he accessed World Bank loans guaranteed by the FG. Who is paying for those loans if not Anambra state govt ? As I said, you can lie as much as you like just as your lying fake Messiah Giringori. |
