This is common in Lagos these days. God help you if youre driving a decent car and have a flat tyre or your car stops on the road. The boys will besiege you not to assist you but to demand their own share of your earnings.

Hey, well the man felt compelled to pose with his rich man's car in a country where the streets are swarming with hungry people that become enraged when they see signs of great wealth passing in their midst.

The poseur drew attention to the fact that his car is worth more than the lifetime earnings of the entire mob that besieged his car, so he should consider himself lucky that he was not simply kidnapped for ransom and subjected to a series of corrective floggings while in custody.
Typical Tinubu supporter talking trash

Drive your crappy old car while you allow the young man who has legitimately earned his income and purchased his Cybertruck drive his car.

It does not make any sense to accuse the young man of enjoying his car, when it clear that those youths are neither beggars nor hungry people. Those simply are criminals who chose that path for themselves. Government has watched such persons systematically overtake Lagos and they know that most of them are robbers, clothed in jealousy and poverty.

That begs your did not start in the recent times. It was there in the 90s in Lagos, with the whole of Broad street, Ereko, Breadfruit, Idumota, etc as their bases. They would stop people on the streets and ask for ground rent. They carried on like that until Buba Marwa became the Governor of Lagos state. It was Buba Marwa who swept them all off the streets of Lagos. None of them dared to return until BAT became the Governor in 1999. Thugs, thugs and hooligans returned to Lagos in full force since then.

So do not blame the player. Blame those who use such boys to perpetuate themselves in power in Lagos state.

The player was not wrong to go to the stadium with car. Even if he went with your type of crappy old car, they would have recognized him and stopped him for money.

No be only five million, na fifty billion. If they could vandalize the car, they would have done so.
I agree with every word you have written here, and this is why I only ever set foot in Lagos when I need to catch an international flight. Lagos is a very scary place for this village boy who knows Southern California's freeways like the back of my hand.

It is not a Nigerian problem, it is a Lagos problem. That is how the humans of Lagos behave, almost always, very uncouth.
Lol...😃
It is obvious you have never visited Northern Nigeria and encountered the hordes of Almajiri kid beggars.

The simple fact is there is a systematic failure of government towards the citizens and silently an unconscious revolution is slowly brewing. It is evident in the dangerous kidnapping for ransom that has become normalised.
People are hungry and the lest looking rich person sighted becomes a fair target to assuage their hunger.
It is a known fact that when the poor fail to get food to eat,the poor will eat the rich.
A stage is coming that any sign of riches will attract an attack from the systematic growing army of the poor.

The entitlement mentality Nigeria is built upon is growing daily. Useless animals. In Nigeria, praise and hailing is a form of favour that must be rewarded with money especially when the person is proven or widely believed to be rich.
I rather employ a truck load of soldiers to protect that truck from regular N5m extortion than give entitled demons money.
This is common and prevalent among the south Western Nigerians and it's increasingly embarrassing.... even in a normal event, begging starts from the Ushers sharing food to the Bouncers at the entrance down to the agberos usually waiting at the car lot to extort money sometimes forcefully from the guests

The most annoying are those zebra like marked women wearing whites claiming to be praying for people while begging

Did you make this comment with the implications this has on NFPL, Inter Lagos FC and Onikan Stadium as whole in mind?

How do we continue to canvass for more patronage of Nigerian Football leagues by fans, supporters and general public when thi kind of things are allowed to happen without any kind of reprimand for the culprits? They should be fished out and dealt with.

You're quite insensitive and myopic.

What do you mean by not applying wisdom.

Today Super Eagles are play Madagascar in Uyo today, if you like drive any car of your choice, nobody will block you and demand money from you.

This kind of entitlement mentality is very common in Lagos.

Saturnalia:
This footballer did not apply wisdom. National Stadium for that matter.

Stop making excuses for bad behaviour. We all know the city where this behaviour seems to be enshrined in their culture. There are several places in Nigeria that have higher poverty rates, yet you don’t get to see what you see in the city someone built from the Atlantic Ocean.

In the absence of adequate security, discretion is the better part of valor.

Hide your money when you are surrounded by poverty, if you value your life over the need to show off.

I agree the thoughts of him not going with the car crossed my mind but that is a direct indictment on security apparatus of the state that citizens are not free to move around without fear of harrassment.

You can't leave the criminal and blame the victim for a crime committed against him.

It's illogical.

You need to modify your comment.

That stage is gradually being passed.
The coming stage will be a violent revolution in which any semblance of extravagant riches becomes a target.
Already these angry mobs stand on roads in Lekki and VI and target people driving luxurious expensive looking cars for hand outs.
It will get to a stage the hand outs will not be enough. Then come the car jackings and invasion of homes of the rich by the homeless.
It is gradually getting there but the society is refusing to address the reality that is staring us in the eye.
The revolution will be televised this time around.

A wise man in Nigeria today should not display stupendous wealth. Be modest, as the country is not safe. Poverty and crime are pervasive. Most people have an entitlement mentality, envy and jealousy.
South West Nigeria is not safe..

Don't paint the whole country bad for things that happen in Lagos.

It’s OK that you do not have to face the challenges that Lagosians contend with in the hands of area boys.

However, we must not be quick to blame innocent citizens who work hard and legitimately, getting embarrassed by such irresponsible youths. Rather than face politicians who make lives difficult for them, they stand on the roads of Lagos Island, Mushin, Agege and Mile 2 to rod and harrass people. I think we must address that.

Everyone should be free to drive their cars, no matter the beauty or ugliness of the vehicle. Afterall many area boys own cars too.

I faced such challenge some years ago. Two area boys approached me while I was in a taxi on broad street demanding for land rent. I was even eating, as I was hungry and purchased some food from a fast food then. The skinny and scrawny guy was telling me that his chairman wanted me to settle then. I only screamed at them, threatened them in return and they ran away.

Let’s all wake up and elect leaders that will sanitize our societies. For me, laziness has set in truly among the youths. Those thugs only think of who to rob in traffic and earn their living.

Stop calling people animals.

Hunger and joblessness can make someone do things unimaginable.

Do you think you know better than those guys?

You are not better than them in anyway, you are only more privileged
codetemplar is even been kind.

those guys are worse than animals at least animals know how to hunt and get food but full grown adults don't know how to get food on their own.

it has nothing to with hunger and joblessness but everything to do with bad governance in Lagos..

codetemplar is better than them in every way he is not more privileged he is more sensible which he is using to be independent.

blame Lagos government and the entire South West states for letting their secondary schools produce such people.

Nobody is disputing the source of that well paid football players wealth. His displaying that wealth in a Third World country places him at risk of continuous harassment by beggars, or worse, kidnapping that could send him to the grave even after ransom has been paid.
Lagos is not the whole of Nigeria.

he is displaying it in Lagos and this is how entitled men in Lagos behave..

in other states outside the South West he may not get such reaction.

In Nigeria, ordinary hailing and greeting has become a service that has a price attached to it. You don't expect good values in a society led by people with broken and dysfunctional values
