The Confederation of African Football has made another boardroom decision, annulling Edo Queens victory over Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying final following the Ghanaian side’s protest.

Ampem Darkoa had protested the decision to proceed directly to penalties after the final ended 2-2 in Ouagadougou on September 5, arguing that 30 minutes of extra time should have been played in line with the CAF WAFU-B Regulations.

Edo Queens went on to win 4-1 on penalties to claim the title and qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

CAF determined that the final did not comply with the competition regulations because extra time was not played. Article 72.4 requires two 15-minute periods of extra time when the final is level after 90 minutes, with penalties only used if the scores remain level.

The ruling means Edo Queens’ shootout victory no longer stands, with the final set to resume from the 2-2 scoreline.

Both teams will play two 15-minute periods of extra time, with penalties to decide the winner if they remain level after the additional 30 minutes.

The eventual winner will take the zone’s qualification place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Ok what stop them from playing extra time did Edo Queens force them to play penalties or the CAF referee decision

I think the decision is right. However, the refree should be sanctioned for failing to apply the right rules

Total nonsense, the referee and the organization should have been sanctioned, they shouldn't proceed to penalties since Edo queen already won, they should just settle for extra time and if the other team fail to win ,Edo queen fate already decided , no need moving to penalties since everyone wan mad ,Na Caf go finally rewrite football, just like they award caf winner to Morroco

How many times will I say this
That the black man is just not wired to organize himself into a viable, prosperous and sustainable society. He has to be ruled with a rod of iron to attain the minimum level of decency.

That is why the continent continues to crawl and creep like a slug. One step forward, two steps back.

Everyone complains about the lack of investment on the continent. But who will put his money into a sport or an organization that coordinates it, that flip flops on everything.

We thought Hayatou was terrible. Motsepe has taken disorganization to another level....just terrible.

You cannot be too sure until you see the rules guiding the competition.

Some of the rules guiding CAF competitions are slightly different from those guiding FIFA. Eg, Away goal rule.

So, till we see the rules guiding the WAFU competitions

CAF is a disgrace. Edo queen should refuse, sanction your referee and other officials who allowed the match to continue. Na why them no de get am clear, they don’t know simple basics.

They should play the extra time and if no goals or result is draw, then Edo queen wins since they have played the penalty before. This will be a fair judgement rather than playing the penalty again.

And for the loser if you are that good why did you lost in penalty shot out? Loser have no joy they must always have excuses..

You don't know football

Usually the referee decision on the pitch is FINAL.

No boardroom decision should overturn it.

As long as there is a match commissioner and other officials on the day approved the match go straight into penalties after regulation time.

Who knows if the decision was arrived after checking that playing extra time could joapadice the game or pose a risk to the lives of people on the pitch

So EDo queens are not in any fault and so should also reject the call to reply the game.

CAF should stick to their decision on the pitch and not be wavering by any petition once a match is concluded on the pitch

For credibility of the game in Africa

If no extra time was played, then I can't fault overturning the victory.

It is now left for our girls to prove themselves that they truly deserved the win.

But the referee shouldn't be left off the hook.

There should be some sort of punishment for him.

This does not speak well of African football.
The referee should know better and CAF ought to have communicated all the necessary regulations before the match.

Edo queens should lodge compliant with the Sport Arbitration tribunal.

CAF should sanction the referee and its officials and not Edo Queens.
