Every government in the world provides subsidies for their citizens, Nigeria cannot be an exception just because one corrupt man and his corrupt political gang want it so. Even nations that have several social welfare packages and more still subsidize their national energy and critical commodities.....why then must a damaged and politically destroyed nation like Nigeria that her citizens benefit nothing from government be at the forefront of complete subsidy removal on energy that determines every other thing in Nigeria even after unifying FOREX another critical thing in Nigeria's survival as a nation? It shows insensitivity, wickedness, and extreme corruption from the man at the helm of affairs of Nigeria not to have reversed the demonic subsidy removal he did to raise more money for himself and his criminal stat Governors to loot ![]() |

Ironfaceman:I want the subsidy returned but not the usual subsidy. This time I want the subsidy to be given to the local refineries in terms of supplying them srude oil at a low price and them place on them a maximum price control to enable Nigerians but crude at a cheap price. At the same time let the boarders be secured to avoid smuggling of petrol to neighbouring countries. That is the subsidy I want not the one that empowers foreign powers and importers. |

nairalanda1:The question you people don't ask is that, who ran the economy aground, is it the fault of innocent Nigerians, or the fault of our leaders over the past sixty years since independence. Now innocent Nigerians are suffering from the problems they didn't create, the people that created the problems are enjoying their lives. |

IgOga:it can be reintroduced , but there is a difference in the old subsidy and the nw one atiku is talking about . the old subsidy was been given to importers , what atiku is talking about is subsidy on LOCALLY REFINED PETROLEUM PRODUCTS , which wil not affect the nation fx , it will be a capped subsidy , maybe about 100 -200 naira , so if the price of petrol is 1200 from dangote , government will take like 200 naira off and Nigerians will pay only 1000 |

subsidy removal sustained! PBAT is a hard luck President, he would have been celebrated and sailed his second tenure election easily. Despite all the positive economy indices; the wars (Rusia vs Ukraine, instability in the Middle East (Iran, US, Isreal, Houtis, Saudi Arabia) has jeopardized and wasted his efforts. Obi still get oil for his head not to think of reinstating the subsidy, but you see that Atiku; he should explain to Nigerians how he intends to influence OPEC and bring about peace in the Middle East in order for the crude oil and products prices to come down. My open advice to PBAT is to increase efforts on the CNG initiative and also make importation of electric vehicles duty free for some period |

IgOga:Oga you lied. Tinubu removed fuel subsidy just to prove that he can do it and to score cheap point in the eyes of IMF. IMF has been advising former presidents to remove the subsidy which all of them blatantly refused. |

Return the subsidy. |
| Re: The Return Of Subsidy VS Subsidy Removal. Where Do You Stand. by qtx(m): 4:43pm On Sep 29 |
Ironfaceman:Whether or not subsidy should be removed is a function of whether Nigerians will see the proceeds from its removal. What is the need for removing subsidy and inflicting so much pain on Nigerians only to account for nothing received from the subsidy removal? If you must remove subsidy, follow a gradual approach and let us see what you do with the money you recover from it; otherwise, leave the subsidy in place after all. During subsidy, Nigerians were buying petrol cheaper, and foodstuffs and other related commodities were affordable. So in my opinion, Nigerians just want what works well. |

Is this even a question? Of course petroleum products should be subsidized. The government is just throwing away the baby with the bath water by stopping subsidy, because it's somehow negligent of its role or maybe too lazy to curb the corruption associated with subsided petrol. If people are smuggling subsided products across the border, enforce stronger border control and severe punishment. If importers are inflating the prices, set up a monitoring system and punish crook marketers involved. Do not just wake up and stop subsidy thereby throwing millions of Nigerians into poverty. |
| Re: The Return Of Subsidy VS Subsidy Removal. Where Do You Stand. by nairalanda1(m): 4:44pm On Sep 29 |
MrSly:The so called low debt is what forced subsidy removal in the first place. It was still high Plus we had depleted our forex reserves to pay for subsidy and they needed to be rebuilt. Also the current borrowing we are doing is as a result of the fact that our oil revenue is too low to fund government |

that was govt refineries , we know that anything govt has a hand in it will never work , eg nigeria airway and co . but now we have a privately owned local refinery . that is a big plus and bg indicatio that subsidy can work if govt has the political will nairalanda1: |

Ironfaceman:In the Gambia a litre of fuel in naira is about 1650 naira(103 dalasi).. In Nigeria it is 1500 Gambia has a population of 2.3 million they don't produce crude oil minimum wage is between 6500 to 7000 Bag of cement here is about 400 to 450 which is about 7000 naira for a bag. In nigeria is is sold for almost 10000 naira. Using Gambian minimum wage you can buy almost 70 liter of fuel and almost 18 bags of cement. You cannot do the same with your Nigerian minimum wage. Fuel in Nigeria ought to be affordable for even the poorest Nigerian. In the Gambia electricity went off for 48 hours in some part of the country, youth took to the street and matched to NAWEC office and protested that same day the light was restored and it haVe not gone off for almost three weeks.. Nigeria biggest curse is IMPROVISING and always ADJUSTING.. |

Any citizen against subsidy is either a fool or a sycohpant. The people deserve benefits for the natural resources and huge revenue coming in, we see politicians buying Rolls-Royce and Cadillac escalades, living like Arab kings. |

ReluctantAdult:Very lazy evil government. They can easily subsidise for true Nigerians by using fuel cards, issued by banks and used in filling stations, every citizen will have access to amount of subsidised fuel per day apportioned to him or her, with this card, fuel is subsidised for ordinary or poor Nigerians and the criminal middle men who do the smuggling are cut off. The government must not be myopic. Our informal sector run this country, small barbing saloons, small businesses, small generators for families to charge phones, transportation of goods, a smart government will make fuel affordable to keep economy bouyant, a bouyant economy creates more value, more jobs, more production, more GDP, more wealth and a bigger economy...more savings for the banks, more investments...fuel subsidy for real Nigerian citizens, who need it is very important for economic growth. Politicians go into politics for the wrong reasons in Nigeria, to loot, these myopic men are blinded by materialism and vanity. |
