That is a Mechanical Engineer practicing majorly in Auto-Mechanics.

I had a relative who was a Mechanical Engineer like him about same time. He recieved his PG specialization training in Auto-Mechanics (Fire fighting trucks) in Germany and returned to practice his profession based in Ibadan. Throughout his lifetime, he will always visit Lagos on vacation but never permanently relocated to Lagos.

Ibadan was doing great and competing for talents with Lagos, Abeokuta, Badagry, Ebute-Meta, Oshogbo then. If you travel to Ile Ife, Ilesha, Idanre, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ila Orangun, Otan Ayegbaju, Iperu, Ede etc, you will still see evidence of the western civilization dating back to even before that era in Yorubaland.

Little wonder that the only late Pleistocene to Holocene transition era and oldest archeological evidence of human communal existence that ever existed in the whole of western Africa was excavated in Ondo state. If Ondo could posses such prize, now imagine what lies in those other ancient Yoruba towns/cities!

Ibadan city is relatively young when compared to some other Yoruba towns and cities so I have no doubt that this was not peculiar to Ibadan. Older ads may be found in Abeokuta where the first newspaper was published.

Below are the pictures of some of the architectural masterpiece family buildings in Yorubaland that predate Nigeria and still standing and well-maintained till today.

Very interesting, but today, vulcanizers have been reduced to the lowest level in the society, which shows how bad Nigeria have become over the years cry

Vulcanizers have been advertising what they do in south west as far back as 1926 but them some noisemakers were been forced not to go naked to the market.

They were still moving around naked with their tails but today they want to claim they are something whereas they are nothing

Vulcanizing must have been a high end job at that time.

Just like computer repairers in the 90s and phone technicians in the early 2000s

One Nigeria did a lot of damage to the SW. It was a setback. That region should be flying high by now on a stand alone. First in majority of developments. So sad! undecided undecided

Not exactly, old man.

Back in the day, very few people went to university or to polytechnic as we understand it. Most people started as apprentices, and then became experts.

The man who is advertising probably was an apprentice, and probably learned his craft from either a white guy or from a Nigerian who learned from a white guy.

So, what's happened...back then there were few vulcanizers, so it was a 'prestigious' job. Now, there are probably a lot of them around. And tires are far more sophisticated than they were before.

It's two ways, one was about Nigeria getting worse, the other is that with time some professions that were considered high end, sometimes end up becoming so common that you might not even need much formal education to do them

Nigeria is where it is because Nigeria operates a dependency on oil economy.

I am not disagreeing with you that tinubu is bad, but replace tinupoo with your own favored leader, and it would still be the same result.

Some of the hardship we are expereincing is because for decades we ran an economy based on sharing oil money and borrowing when there wasn't enough money. We did not build a productive economy and we did not make government revenue dependent on taxation, and we did not build an accountable socieity.

And if we split the country, same result.

Omo.

Nigeria = Yoruba et al.

Tinubu should permit States to buy the ones below their cadre.

Nope. Nigeria back then had scammers and bad people, and fakes , the difference then was that vulcanizers were very very rare. Not too many cars on the roads, not too many roads either.

Regional government won't work. There is a reason why we have states.

Regional governments were just as corrupt and in some instances tribalistic as the federal government. Go and read the January 1966 coup speech. And most parts of the regions were underdeveloped. If you wanted a problem solved, sometimes you had to travel very long distances to the regional capital, especially in the North.

My village got no light or potable water under regions. Na state governor wey do am.

And they had the same problem NIgeria has today, resource dependency.

The Odutola Lodge is a masterpiece by todays standards the level of detail is awesome even by today's standards. I remember Odutola biscuits from my childhood days.
The reason why Lagos survived was because it was the Federal Capital of Nigeria and Direct government resources flowed in. Then when Lagos was no longer capital Lagos stagnated till Fashola and Ambode brought sanity to Lagos and development

Yep, very few people had cars back then (even in the UK as at 1936, only 4% of the population then had a car...I wish I was joking.).

Nigeria has less bad people in the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's.

The number increased in late 50's due to tribal politicians and it went unabated since then. The oil boom in the 70's even made it worse.
