Emir Sanusi Questions El-rufai’s Prolonged Detention by Ironfaceman(op): 9:45am On Sep 30
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has questioned the continued detention of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, raising concerns over whether Nigeria’s anti-corruption campaign is being applied consistently.

Sanusi made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television on the sidelines of a book launch, where he argued that enacting laws to combat corruption was not enough without effective enforcement by institutions responsible for investigating, prosecuting and trying corruption cases

The emir alleged that some corruption cases had been dropped because the suspects had political connections or enjoyed the backing of influential individuals

“We have seen in this country people who are facing corruption charges who basically just get those charges dropped because they belong to the right political environment or have the right political support,” he said.

According to Sanusi, the manner in which some corruption cases had been handled raised questions about whether the anti-corruption campaign was being pursued consistently.

He cited El-Rufai’s case, describing the former governor as his brother, and questioned why he had allegedly been denied bail and remained in detention despite not having been convicted.

“An example is my brother, Nasir El-Rufai, who’s been denied bail. He’s been in detention for seven months, not having been convicted for anything,” he said.

Sanusi said developments such as El-Rufai’s case could lead members of the public to question the motive behind some anti-corruption proceedings.

“So people begin to wonder, is this really a fight against corruption, or is it a political battle?” he asked.

The emir said Nigeria would make little progress until politicians and those in positions of authority, including those responsible for the judiciary, decided to apply the laws for which they were enacted.

“Now, until the politicians and those who control political office and the judiciary decide that they are going to use these laws for the purpose for which they are set up, we’re not going to get anywhere,” he said.

Sanusi added that while reviewing the laws was a positive step, greater attention should also be given to the institutions responsible for enforcing them.

Otherwise, he warned, people with the right political connections could evade accountability.

El-Rufai is facing trial over allegations including corruption and money laundering. He has said his experience has made him reconsider some of his relationships, noting that some friends and associates remained silent during his trial.

The forces keeping elrufai in prison is not the court of law

These are the same forces that stage Ojota subsidy protest

These are the same forces that hired jihadist to make GEJ government ungorvernable

These are the same forces that paid emir Sanusi to be a fake whistle blower.

These are the same forces making people to believe that APC is doing well

Tinubu panicked and moved against Elrufai when he saw how Peter Obi, Kwankwaso and Atiku were brought together under one umbrella. This was a feat they thought could not happen. The coalition would have remained intact if Elrufai was free. Tinubu's lackeys are cowardly latching onto a purported wiretapping narrative forgetting that the government made attempts to arrest Elrufai at the airport upon his voluntary return to Nigeria. That was before the interview. Heads or tail, it was always Tinubu's intention to keep Elrufai incarcerated to prevent him from engineering his defeat. That's no master strategy. That's cowardice.

Oga lousy emir go and perfect his bail or keep quiet.

If el rufai is poor man will you all even remember him? So nobody is too big to be detain.

Perfect hisses bail if you can and if you can not pls keep quiet.

El Rufai over-rated himself and we lower-rated him to show him he is nobody..

We warned him several time not to allow obi supporters pushed him unto a free fall that is their way but he didnt listen. Same they push Melaye into political scavelanger, same they pudhed Ekpa into jail, same they push kanu to life imprisonment, same they pushed Natasha into a non existing politicin, same way they pushed oby ezekwesilli into professir of bitterness and so on the list is very long..

They said El Rufai is paying for his deeds. Okay.

Those that are helping El Rufai pay for his deeds today would also be helped by another person in the future to pay their deeds.

Shikena.

They should convict him or let him go.
It does not speak well of a democratic government. How long does the wheel of justice take to move to a conclusion.

The previous, Buhari led government did the same thing, keeping people locked up without an end of the justice process.

You cannot criticise military rule and then practice elements of it in mufti.

Where is the justice for Elrufai? Has he been convicted for any offence? Why continue to detain him indefinitely? No matter how long it tarries, this "justice" must go round. No worry yourself.

Where is the evidence that he bugged anyone? Can you convict someone for murder when no dead body exists? He bugged the office of a VIP but the VIP wasn't aware he had been bugged until someone told him about it. He is being kept by the ICPC. Are the body inchatge of handling bugging of VIPs? Under the Nigerian constitution, an individual cannot incriminate himself. Every crime will have to be proven beyond reasonable doubt. Tinubu is simply demonstrating that as president, you can indefinitely incarcerate a political opponent to prevent them from mobilising against you.

he said it himself. He should remain there till all investigations are complete. He’s a flight risk. And also has links to jihadist killers. He paid them in time past. He admitted that himself also.
