Family Raises Alarm After NYSC Member Reportedly Abducted Along Imo-Abia Road

A family has appealed to the Nigerian government and security agencies for the urgent rescue of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Kehinde, who was reportedly abducted while travelling to Abia State for the mandatory service programme.

According to an emotional account by the corps member’s family, Kehinde left for Abia with other prospective corps members and was travelling with a group of buses when the alleged incident occurred along the Imo-Abia axis early Thursday morning.

The family said they had been monitoring the journey through live location sharing when, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Kehinde reportedly sent a brief message to the family group stating, “Kidnappers,” before placing a missed call.

The family said the phone subsequently went offline, leaving relatives unable to establish direct contact with the corps member.

According to the account, the travellers had spent the night at an undisclosed location before continuing their journey at about 4:30 a.m. The family said photographs and videos later circulated among them allegedly showed that the bus carrying Kehinde and other passengers had been taken.

The family claimed that three buses were travelling together, with one reportedly escaping while the occupants of the other buses were allegedly taken into the bush.

The relative further claimed that about 19 people were believed to have been inside the affected bus, although the exact number of victims and circumstances surrounding the incident have not been independently verified.

The family said repeated attempts to call Kehinde's phone were unsuccessful, although the line reportedly rang without anyone answering.

Kehinde's twin sibling, Taiye, who was posted to Enugu State, has reportedly arrived safely at the NYSC camp, according to the family.

The family has appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Government and other security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue Kehinde and the other people reportedly taken during the incident.

The reported abduction comes amid heightened concerns over the safety of travellers and prospective corps members travelling to different parts of the country for the NYSC programme.

Authorities have yet to publicly confirm the reported abduction or provide details on the identities and number of people allegedly affected.

They should scrape the nysc scheme... it's not adding any thing to the people undergoing it especially since their security is not guaranteed

The mother is definitely not in a good state. I hope she's with people to encourage her. If possible, they should halt calling the twins until either of them reaches out themselves. It's a safety measure.

If security agents actually felt inclined to do their jobs, average criminals would be quite scared to indulge in crimes.

I honestly believe insecurity in this nation is happening with the full support and indulgence of the Police force and other key members of the nation's security, including DSS.

A key example was the abduction of those teachers and students of that school in Oyo state... That could never have happened without the assistance of the Police.

Hopefully, they will be found in one piece and the kidnappers and their accomplice sent to the great beyond.

Since everyone started to say that kidnapping had reduced to the credit of President Tinubu, i suspected that Peter Obi supporters were not happy with that report and would do anything to ensure that not so and here they are restarting tbe kidnapping again but God will put you all to shame and confuse your plans.

Peter Obi shall never be the president of Nigeria by the power in the name of God. Tinubu till 2031 by the grace of God.

There are more than 75 checkpoints on that Onitsha-Owerri road, which is less than 80km..

That is about one checkpoint for every kilometer. If the police are not complicit in this kidnap then those corpers should be found before the next 48 hours.

The few bushes, trackable landmass and minimal ungoverned spaces around the said area will make it difficult for kidnappers to go very far from where they pick up victims.

This should be easiest kidnap case for the police and soldiers (who also have a Forward Operating Base along that road) to solve.

If the victims are not rescued within the next 48hours, some unscrupulous security officers are complicit in that kidnap.

That area is one of the most policed roads in the entire country.

The victim is from my town Shaki a rapid developing town in Oyo state. After struggling for 4 years to sponsor himself and in the end he got kidnapped with a 50/50 life situation.
