Oga, cool your pants down. You are missing the point.

Messi has gotten to a level where you cannot but acknowledge his greatness even if you hate him. To do otherwise would be folly. That’s why I’ve been defending him against Barca fans who don’t seem to understand how massive he has been.

But you see that fokkking Barca? Nothing can make me wish them well. I like Raphinha and I’d be happy if he scores a hattrick every matchday- as long as Barca concedes like 5 goals. If Barca plays against Umukuro Junior, I’m backing the local team to win.

May God go punish that ojoro team. They were good during that Pep era, dem come add ojoro join. For what?? How can you witness the Drogba frustration and even that Van Persie red card live and wish them well? Na SAF f up cause the rubbish sha.

That broke club will eventually sell all their assets and liquidate insha Allah. 😀
Oga, I actually understand your point, but I think you are the one still mixing up football clubs with football players.

Players are professionals. They are workers, just like you and me in our respective offices, so Barca is Barca with Messi and Barca is still Barca without Messi. The same applies to every other football club.
So why should the actions, controversies, or sins of an entire club be placed solely on the shoulders of one player simply because he played for them?
A football club is bigger than any individual player. Players come and go, but the club remains. Messi was a Barcelona player, he wasn't Barcelona FC itself.

A player can represent Barcelona today, and the same player plays for Chelsea tomorrow, or any another club after that. So why should supporting or appreciating a player automatically be interpreted as supporting everything his former club represents?

And can we apply the same logic consistently to CR7? He played for Man U, and Man U are Chelsea rivals and they did PDP to us too. Does that mean a Chelsea fan who admires Ronaldo suddenly becomes less of a Chelsea fan or be termed clueless? Of course not. If the argument is that appreciating a rival club's player makes you clueless or disloyal, then the same standard has to apply to everybody.

Look at Liverpool too. We all remember the 2022 Carabao Cup Final and lukaku scored a genuine goal but the goal was LiVARpooled, should I therefore say any Chelsea fan who praises Mohamed Salah, TAA or another Liverpool player is clueless? That would make no sense.

Welbeck has scored against Chelsea multiple times, yet today he is a Chelsea player. That's football.

Players move. Players change clubs. Players are professionals. The shirt they wear can change, their individual football ability doesn't suddenly disappear because they put on a rival's shirt.

That's why I don't understand the idea that appreciating Messi somehow makes someone a clueless Chelsea fan. You can be 100% Chelsea and still recognise greatness when you see it.

I may have my personal beef with Barcelona because of what they did to Chelsea. I may not wish them well, I can banter them, celebrate when Chelsea beat them, But when you begin to show hatred to their former player(s), it makes no sense. I can dislike the team, but not the players.

Alex Scott is a must buy by January. If England want to win something the pairing in midfield should always be Anderson/Scott or Rice/Scott.

Drew, you have this habit of bringing your fights from other platforms to this one.

You’d then present the same argument like it originated from here and when you are asked for proof on this thread, that is when you’d say “ On PM News, On X, On Instagram, On TikTok, on Facebook, On YouTube, On Reddit”.

You sometimes, even without provocation degenerate into calling people out of their names, which I personally find unnecessary because you are trying to make a point for Yamal.

Now it is Olise! If Mbappe played last night it would have been Mbappe not Olise or Mbappe and Olise because you have the compulsion to drag any player that is remotely a threat to Yamal to you.

England without the plumber called Rice in midfield. Palmer doesn't really know Tuchel, I doubt he gets any more call up.

MorataFC:
This is honestly one of the most clueless and trash takes I’ve seen in years.
What kind of logic is this? You think appreciating Messi makes someone a clueless Chelsea fan? No. It simply means they have enough football knowledge to recognise greatness when they see it.

You can support Chelsea with your whole heart and still appreciate Messi. Chelsea is my club, Messi is football history. Messi isn’t just a footballer, he’s an SI unit of football. When you want to measure greatness, you use Messi as the reference point.

So do you think if Barcelona came calling for Drogba signing after the Overobo's incident the following season, do you think Drogba would refuse simply because Barcelona are Chelsea’s rivals? And if he eventually played against Chelsea in UCL and had the chance to score, do you think he would deliberately miss because he once played for us? Of course not. He is a professional footballer doing his job. Rivalry is part of football hatred is not.

That is where some of you have completely lost the plot. You have turned football clubs into cults, like Aye and Eiye confraternities cults, where we see rivals clubs as enemies, and where appreciating a rival player is treated like betrayal and supporting another player becomes some kind of crime. Rival clubs are NOT enemy, we are there for ourselves to make the game better and sweeter when we banter ourselves, we are sporting rivals not enemies, that is why after 90 minutes, footballers shake hands, exchange shirts, laugh together and maintain friendships. Yet some fans are online behaving as if they are preparing for war.

Football is a game, not a battlefield. I personally witnessed a horrifying incident in Ibadan around 2008 or 2009 where a disagreement between a Chelsea fan and a Man U fan at a viewing, where a cheasea fan stabbed a man u to death, that is what happens when you see a rival as an enemy.

So no, I will not accept this ridiculous idea that supporting Messi somehow makes someone a “clueless” Chelsea fan. I can love Chelsea, defend Chelsea, celebrate Chelsea and still acknowledge that Messi is the greatest footballers to ever touch a football.

If your definition of being a “real Chelsea fan” then hating on the rivals clubs, then you are not demonstrating fair play that is associated with football entertainment.

Support your club. Defend your colours. Enjoy the rivalry. But don't lose your humanity in the process. Football is entertainment, not war.
Not reading all that. I will repeat it once again, no mentally stable Chelsea fan supports Messi or Barcelona. That's the way I see it.

LooL. Morata, you’re the one misunderstanding my point.

Appreciating Messi doesn’t make you a clueless Chelsea fan. That’s not what I said. But embracing Barca today after all the ojoro they did during that time makes your Chelsea bond questionable.

Cos I don’t believe you can witness the ojoro (and hurt) that Barca did to your team LIVE during that time and proclaim love for them today. That match wey no make you chop night food…wey for days you dey imagine how if things had been done fairly you could’ve won… You forget all that hurt and forgive them and start supporting them? I don’t buy it.

You can love Messi or Ronaldo because those two fanbase are huge. You have Liverpool, Chelsea, arsenal fans supporting both players.

But becoming a full blown Barcelona fan like airbele is mental lol

Palmer is good enough for England and his game will do the talking. I wonder why tuchel is always trying to pick on some players. Same way he came for jude unprovoked that time and said he might not make his world cup squad.. until that one shut him up with good performances.

We both know why the carpenter is struggling in a controlled environment like Barca with a precise way of attacking. I have no business with what he does in a chaotic team that struggles badly when they meet a controlled team.

It’s embarrassing at this point. Must I watch your boy against a weak opposition to see what he can do? I saw him enough at the World Cup where every opponent was fighting for something important.

I should sit down to watch Saka vs Perisic in 2026?? A player whose career has ended long before blind Ibime wanted him as our left back.
