Abuja is more than Maitama, Wuse, luxury estates and the beautiful side of the city we see all the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTsM8-kVggA?si=DusGpXvcSzsLW4-D This time, I went to Gwagwalada to explore one of the most misunderstood parts of Abuja. From the Gwagwalada market, housing and different communities to the roads, businesses, institutions, development and everyday life of the people living here, I wanted to see what Gwagwalada is really like. Is Gwagwalada really as “far” or “undeveloped” as people make it seem? What is housing like? How affordable is life here? And what do the people who actually live here think about Gwagwalada?

Whichever way, Gwagwalada is not a decent location to reside in the FCT. Aside being an outskirt locality, Gwagwalada remains a suburb for rowdy people - more of an Hausa community. It is not just about the aesthetic of a location or the kind of infrastructures within the locality. It is about the kind of mindset and level of exposure of the people within the locality that determines the standard of the place. The majority of people living in Gwagwalada have a mentality that wouldn't earn approval rating. Many people will even prefer Kujr to Gwagwalada. For many right thinking FCT residents, Gwagwalada is a NO NO. |

| Re: Abuja: Inside Gwagwalada, One Of The Most Misunderstood Part Of The City by oglalasioux(m): 2:59pm On Oct 05 |
Gwagwalada is FCT not Abuja. There’s a difference. Mararaba is in Nassarawa State but is less than 10 kilometers from Aso Rock villa. Gwagwalada is a good 80 kilometers from the city center. Don’t forget that Abaji is FCT too but nearly 120 kilometers from the city center. The FCT is made up of; 1. Abuja municipal. 2. Abaji. 3. Gwagwalada. 4. Bwari. 5. Kuje. 6. Kwali. These places are distinct and the distances show very well. They are all far from each other. |

oglalasioux:are you saying Gwagwalada to Abaji is just 40km apart? It's laughable to say Gwagwalada is twice as far from City Centre as it is from Abaji! |
| Re: Abuja: Inside Gwagwalada, One Of The Most Misunderstood Part Of The City by Godfullsam(m): 3:23pm On Oct 05 |
Odobaone:Mararaba no be Abuja na. Although Omar can say it is approximately Abuja due to its closeness to the capital city. Baring the usual traffic between aso junction and sharp corner, you can't spend more than 10 minutes driving from mararaba to nyanyan Abuja. |

oglalasioux:Funny enough, gwagwa is a suburb in the fct that is very far from gwagwalada. From the names, a new comer will think they are very close to each other ![]() |

Bluntguy:Abaji which is about 100km after Gwagwalada is still part of Abuja. You will know whether you're in Abuja or not only when you pass Abaji, Gwagwalada, Zuba and see welcome to Abuja. |

Gotocourt:I did urban and regional planning B.tech and MSc environmental management. I can tell you although Gwagwalada was not planned the way Abuja city was planned, but it has some form of planning activity going on, private planning for estate layouts and also Gwagwalada area Council has planning efforts put into the city. It's not as unplanned as you are made to see or hear. I visit Gwagwalada very frequently, it's not as terrible as Gwagwa karmo, Dei-Dei, Mpape and some other settlement so I know this. |
