Lagos Opens Toll-Free Line For Residents To Report Fake And Substandard Products by Merlissa(op): 4:15am On Oct 07
The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has introduced a toll-free helpline through which residents can report fake, expired and adulterated products, misleading advertisements, poor services and other consumer-related violations.

The agency’s General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Afolabi Solebo, in a statement obtained by The PUNCH on Wednesday, urged Lagos residents to use the new channel to formally report suspected violations rather than relying solely on complaints made on social media.

The toll-free line is 080 0005 2726, while complaints can also be sent to lasgcopa@gmail.com or through the agency’s social media platforms under the handle @lascopa.

The development gives consumers a channel to seek guidance and bring suspected breaches to the attention of the state regulator, particularly in cases involving products or services that may affect health, safety or financial interests.

Solebo said complaints submitted to the agency should be supported by verifiable evidence to enable investigation and enforcement.

He listed useful evidence to include receipts, invoices, photographs or videos, product labels, proof of payment and screenshots of transactions, advertisements or conversations with sellers.

The helpline will receive complaints concerning fake and counterfeit products, expired or adulterated goods, defective products, misleading advertisements and unfair business practices, as well as poor services and disputes arising from online shopping.

Solebo also advised residents to exercise greater caution when purchasing goods and services, particularly online, urging them to verify sellers, prices and terms before making payments.

He asked consumers to examine product labels for manufacturers’ details, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers, ingredients and usage instructions before purchasing goods.

The agency’s latest call comes after it warned in August that expired and near-expired products were allegedly being reintroduced into the Lagos market with falsified production and expiry dates.

LASCOPA said at the time that its enforcement teams had inspected businesses across the state and uncovered suspicious date coding, damaged packaging and other questionable products.

Solebo said the new complaint channel would help the agency identify violations and take enforcement action where necessary.

“Timely, credible complaints help us detect violations and take enforcement action. Consumer protection is a shared responsibility, government, businesses and consumers,” he said.

Weak ass attempt at reverse bigotry.

To the topic, this is a very laudable initiative coming from LASG. At least they got this one thing right. This one thing!

Make Lagosians start reporting these unscrupulous elements o jare. Let them pay with prison time and loss of livelihood.

It's the least they deserve.

See it, say it, sorted - like the UK rail

How is the attempt to curb fake and substandard products tribalism?

Must the victim card be played in just about everything?

In fact, you can continue smelling.

Your words are for the master strategist who is destroying other lives because of money squeezed out in various forms, including subsidy removal.

The master plan owner who destroyed Lagos State into a waterless shithole and glorified ghetto of slimy slums.

One of them spotted. This is one of the few problems that has been drawing Nigeria backwards for decades. Is either they use ethnicity card, if it doesn’t work, they use religion. Instead of him to look for legit business and switch from selling fake and harmful products, he’s technically advocating for it.

Re: Lagos Opens Toll-Free Line For Residents To Report Fake And Substandard Products by Originalsly: 5:25am On Oct 07
Sounds nice ... but let's chew on this. This is about all fake products. How many lines were opened to receive these calls? ... how many people were employed to take calls? ... how many people were employed to go in the field to follow up on the calls? ... how many vehicles were made available for the field workers? Are there laws on the books that make it illegal to sell fake products? If not .. then if I'm selling fake Nike sneakers .. what right does the State has to seize my goods or arrest me? The move is a good one but to say report all fake products the volume of calls will either crash the site.... or it will be almost impossible to get through with a call ... or messages go unread. Biting off wayyy more one can chew. Why not start with fake drugs? I hope we have a follow up on this.

Will a better one be the employment of teachers to make education free for all children, and the employment of workers to make water available to all households?

What do you think that Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo Olu are doing for over 27 years with the trillions annually generated from Lagosians apart from stealing it since they have done far less than Makinde did in 8 years?

NUT commends Oyo over recruitment of 19,500 teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde-led government for recruiting 19,500 teachers in five years.

The union, in a statement signed by the NUT Chairman, Oladimeji Raji and the Secretary, Salami Olukayode, noted that the appointment of 5,000 teachers in his first term and 14,500 since the inception of his second term into the state primary and secondary schools was noteworthy.

The union said the ripple effects of the recruitment were that it would address the problems of inadequate manpower in the education sector and promote teaching and learning.

The statement read, “Your disposition towards turning the tide of the education system of Oyo State remains unprecedented and unmatched not only in the annals of recruitment history of our dear state in recent times but also across the entire 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.

“Your Excellency Sir, your achievements in the education sector since assumption of office particularly, on the successful recruitment of over 14,000 qualified teaching professionals and about 3,500 non- teaching personnel, aside from an appreciative number of caregivers is a clear cut and a perfect reflection of your results-oriented style of leadership aimed at providing free, qualitative and quantitative education to the amiable citizens of Oyo State. This gesture shall, without doubt, have a significant touch in our classroom and as well enhance educational service delivery to our school children.”

In what ways are local, state and federal governments different from the people who own them and allow a few from their own midst to emerge into public office in the legislative and executive branches?

Do you know huh

Can any government exist without the public wanting it to exist?

My prayers is that God will reward everybody according to whatever you are supporting in Nigeria today.

If you are supporting good, may you receive a goodly reward.

If you are supporting evil, may evil stay with you and your family now and forever more...

Should we scrap our law enforcement agencies and dismantle the judicial system?

What do we need them for, when we can simply pray for God to reward good deeds and evil deeds? What is the point of wasting money and time on the police force, prison guards, judges, bailiffs etc huh

By the way, how do you understand that God made all of us in His image, when we are all physically different from each other?

It is a wish for people to meet their ends depending on what they are doing today.

It is even a natural law of nature:

Whatever you plant, you will harvest in dew time.

I don't know why it should be a problem to you my dear.

Very soon now, someone will address world press conference that they are targeting his people developing Lagos and this is the payback because they don't want him to win the forth coming election. He will term these as attacks that is not acceptable.
Fake wine products, toothpaste, tomato paste, everything should be reported.

I am so scared these days to even buy anything to put into my mouth. Even the plastic bottled drinks in traffic, everything is adulterated.
Lagos state should not spare anyone. Seize their goods, lock their shops and sentence them to minimum of 10 years imprisonment.

It's ery necessary I know with this move they willl move to other state the fake product merchants are very heartless and all state of the federation should rise against them and hands out a very severe penalty for any culprit with zero mercy.

Dora Akuyilli of blessed memory did everything possible to curb this menace at the end they manufactured cancer threw it on her and kpai her. One thing is sure "all day is for the thief but one good day is for the owner"
