Nigeria is not a loaf of bread that you can easily share like that.

Nigeria is a complexity entity.

Let's start with restructuring and from there we can consider sharing the country if the need arise.
A region that cannot make good and reasonable demand for restructuring will still not make any reasonable and acceptable demand if the country is to be 'shared'.
You cannot restructure a country that was forced together by people who came from far away and for their own interest only.

The only solution is for every tribe to form their own nation as it was before the British created Nigeria, then we can then decide to form a union like the European union which should also allow an exit clause if a nation decides to leave.

The demand is so ridiculous and childish. It sounds like they are not even interested in the restructuring.

Come to think of it, they are the one clamouring for restructuring since.

These people don't seem to know what they really want.
Kanu's release as part of their restructuring demands. As how now

If this is true, then it's highly ridiculous and petty.

Except if you are new on this forum. I don't post fake news

I am still trying to get the details of the remaining 5 demands as it's 10 in total

This is not to say you are not posting fake news but their request for the release of Kanu was made under the political/social aspect of the debate which I think is ok as it is part of demands I fear such, remember,it's just a demand and not authoritative. When OBJ was facing impeachment treats from late na'bba, part of the north's demands to caution na'bba was for the release of Mohammad Acha which actually happened.

I also found out that they also made a demand concerning Igbo speaking areas, people in other regions or states like Benue kogi Rivers Edo, (igbanke) which the r yorubas also did for their own people and areas in kogi and Kwara (I'm surprised as this was a pure Yoruba area before)

I also did not see anywhere that the south east demanded for Lagos to be excised from the south west!

The south west demand are very beautiful good demands and I believe others south should copy and support it. If the north now completely claim Kwara and kogi, then the SW hands off.

If the south south now completely claim Rivers then the SE should hands off.

What I don't like in the SE demand is rejecting the outcomes, communique of the other regions simply cos they excluded states like Rivers from exclusively belonging to the SE!

I'm from Edo state and Igbanke cannot be ceded to the SE cos it will fall into delta state and not all delta state is Igbo speaking.

That being said,if we southerner continue fighting and mocking ourselves,we will continue to lose out. We don't seem to know that.

There is an ongoing National conference about restructuring/regionalism. Each regions already came up with their resolutions but it first need to be discussed by North and South.

The Southern regions have been meeting for quite some time so that they can all have almost same resolution before the national conference with North.

That's why I said average Nigerians are not aware of the conference..

The Lagos state is all about economic benefits. Audio leak of how Gbadebo should be voted for enmass while after winning, some Yoruba's will be jailed( That reasons is best known to them) is online but not that popular

As for the southern regions speaking with one voice, my own curiosity is when would states within a region start working together?

Well I hope they have good deliberations and they should be very aware that things have changed..1940 or 1960 or 19 this and that is gone.. deliberations should be way forward from here. God have so blessed every region in Nigeria so much each can even survive on its own.
Well I wish them good luck and good rewarding mutual deliberations
Well thanks for bringing this up to our notice

The National conference is more like a waste of funds. Let each region come up with their resolutions and attend plenary to discuss it with the lawmakers.

After the the conclusion of the conference, it's still the lawmakers that will pass it as bills, why not go straight to them by region

I don't know why Yorubas are still allowing this nonsense.. I think people should start letting them know who owns Lagos and where Lagos belongs.
How on earth will a tribe that has no linkage to Lagos, nor share any border with the State be asking that it shouldn't be part of South West. If that isn't deliberate act of provocation, then what is?

That's the greed and deception we have been talking about.. they want their Eastern region the way it was before but do not want Yorubas to have their State (Lagos State) back as it used to e because according to them, all tribes in Nigeria built it. Please are they the mouthpiece of the "all tribes" that built Lagos for them to be making sich demands?.

Hmmn.. Yorubas we need to wake up.

Apparently, their rationale was that, if they can't have port harcourt THEN the yorubas too, should not retain Lagos. They blamed yorubas for the ikewere, etche, and others refusing to be classed, as igbos.

Unfortunately for them, they have no say in the affairs of Lagos State.. Once regional government starts, I believe they can be asked to move back to their region peacefully so Yorubas can have space to develop.

As for PortHarcourt, it has never been part of Igboland and will never be.. it's Ikwerres and other sub-groups there that have say over PortHarcourt.

Average Nigerians are not even aware of the ongoing conference about restructuring Nigeria.

Representatives from different regions have been meeting for quite some time to present common goals

Below are the top 4 demands of South East region.

1. Nnamdi Kanu must be released
2. The 1942/43 old eastern map should be restored
3. All the properties seized by most especially the Ijaw, Ikwere should be returned
4. Because all Nigerians developed Lagos state, Lagos shouldn't be part of South West region
.

Benue and Taraba were once under Southern Nigerian Protectorate but when the British wanted to create Western and Eastern Nigeria, the people of these provinces opted to join the north because they said they could not stand being in the same region with the Ibo as majority.

Western Cameroun expressed their displeasure as well including all minority people but the British brushed them aside

Out of all four regions(Northern, Western, Eastern and Lagos colony) created out of the two protectorates, Eastern region was the most restive from Inception as every other people's wanted out.

The British only obliged the people of Benue and Taraba and later Western Cameroun.

The minority people in the coastal provinces did not relent to have their own region (COR region) but Ibo majority in Enugu refused their calls for a referendum on the matter. It is then that are now crying for referendum to leave Nigeria

The minority people took their plight to the Federal level after all means to get one at Enugu fell on deaf ears .

In western Nigeria, Ibadan voted overwhelmingly to allow for a referendum for the creation of Midwestern region despite Yorubas being the majority.

The majority had it on good conscience that they will be hypocritical to have fought for independence from the British only to deny their fellow Africans their own self rule agitation.

A Yoruba man even moved the motion in Ibadan which was immediately supported by a majority voice vote.

But in Enugu , every attempt by the minority people to get COR region was shut down by the Ibo majority.

The minorities took their matter to the Federal parliament and had secured the overwhelming support from Northern, Western and Midwestern MPs.

This is why they activated their minions in the army to truncate our democracy and abolish regions and from there place themselves as supreme dictators in a centrist autocratic quasi military regime.

The reason for Ojukwu declaring Biafra was because Gowon had finally granted minority people their own states (Old Rivers and old Cross Rivers).

Achebe wrote that Gowon declaring states for minority people was the darkest day in Ibo Eastern Nigeria.

And when Gowon finally liberated minority people from their genocidal grip, that is when the fight in then evaporated because there was nothing left to be proud of in a landlocked Biafra.

That is when Azikiwe began supporting one Nigeria and called on Gowon to liberate what was left of his Eastern Nigeria from Ojukwu's tyranny and unite it back to Nigeria.

Many staunch Biafrans also began becoming one Nigerianists after the liberation as they knew that there was no future for a landlocked Ibo nation limited to it's historical lands.

That's when they started sabotaging their own war effort .

Their sabotage was so extreme that sabo became a steady description used by Ojukwu .

He was seeing Sabos everywhere because he knew there was nothing worth fighting in preserving an Ibo ethno state .

They are mad
Please I am interested in where Achebe said that creating states for ethnic minorities was the darkest day in Igbo history. Can you provide me with a source please?

Thank you.

No demand concerning Lagos was made. Please disregard this.

Also, they demanded Igbo-speaking communities in parts of Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Edo states. They never claimed these entire states.

The Southwest also made demands for Yoruba communities outside the Southwest.

Taking a step back to evaluate the situation presented here reveals a great deal of nuance, demonstrating that calm, constructive dialogue will always yield better insights than quick reactions. It will be fascinating to see how other contributors build upon these initial ideas.

That's their main worry- losing their grip on lagos. Las, las they will have to leave Lagos state and the SW , as it's not their ancestral land.

Never mind Portharcourt, now they are using the 1939 map of eastern region as the extent of igboland. They want access to the sea but the ikwerres that said ,they are not igbo are cursed and abused by them- they reckon these ikwerres are suffering from Identity problem.

They blamed yoruba for this latest development saying the yoruba promised Rivers, their own region as if it's within the powers of the yoruba conveners of the conference to grant other region, self- rule within one nigeria.
