nairalanda1:It's easier said when the victims are not related to you or you. They say in my place that when the corpse belongs to another family, it is regarded as a log of wood. |

Igbophobia:Yeah the Italians all cried foul when they brought the law online there But within three years, kidnapping reduced drastically. At some point we got to stop paying these people, otherwise it would embolden them to come and kidnap me and you. Because they know there is money in it |

Should I take pity on the spokesperson or officials of the security authorities when they get kidnapped. |

Uzodinma is incompetent on Security issues. The useless Governor was never voted for in the first place, but APC and Justice Kekere-Ekun led Supreme court judges foisted him on Imo People. He abandoned governance and was pursuing imaginary enemies. These are the attendant consequences of rigging elections via the ballot and via the corruptible courts.. When we were opposing APC electoral atrocities in Imo, people thought we were just making noise.. |

Borrow2222:Quite so good and easy for you to blame government rather than condemning the kidnappers, what a citizen 😁 |

Namaster:Oga since when did kidnappers start requesting that ransom be paid to pos or foreign account. It not a must to comment |

nairalanda1:We all refuse bto ask the right questions: Why is Nigeria becoming a failing state? Without answering that question, the country will continue moving in circles. People brought in these terrorists. People are sponsoring them. What is the government doing about that? You want to fight terrorism and you have a Muslim-Muslim ticket? Joke of the century. The hoardes are marching. If you know what I mean. |

Igbophobia:Yeah, NIgeria is a failing state, that does not mean we should not take drastic measures against kidnapping. Nigeria was a failing state in 2008, that did not stop Peter Obi from reducing kindapping in his state by destroying kidnappers houses with bulldozer. Even Italy I mentioned, Italy was a mess economically in the 1990's. That did not stop them passing the harsh law. And yes, people shouted at the government, and called them heartless. Yes, it is not my family. But we cannot keep oon paying kidnappers because Nigeria is a failed state. The more we pay them, the more they kidnap, till it affects you and me. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Enough payment of Danegeld. |
| Re: A Relative Travelled From Ibadan To Imo To Deliver Ransom - Family by Igbophobia: 7:15pm On Oct 08 |
nairalanda1:The payment isn't the main problem, but the will of the people at the top to fight the scourge. Have you not heard that even the government is paying ransom themselves just to cover face when school children are kidnapped? Did you not hear when they even paid bandits to remove an anti-aircraft gun from them just because Buhari's presidential jet could become a target when he visited Katsina? Those are the type of leaders, the Muslim-Muslim type that will fight terrorism? If the people at the helm lack the will, forget it. No one is fighting anything, unless it concerns them directly or the prospect of them retaining power. |

Enugurangers:I pity your parents who wasted money on your education. What is this you are writing? Something we all watched on channels TV, you are here talking what you don't know or understand |
| Re: A Relative Travelled From Ibadan To Imo To Deliver Ransom - Family by HardMirror(m): 8:10pm On Oct 08 |
TempleHouse:if you watched channels TV interview of the commissioner of police particularly were he was asked to explain how they carried out the rescue, you will know who is lying. Just pray you don't experience this, you will understand what "rescue" means in nigeria |

nairalanda1:This opinion reads like an underhanded endorsement of the notion that it is acceptable for newly graduated Nigerians to be kidnapped for ransom because those who miraculously escape capture might be shouldered with the responsibility of providing medical care to villagers in remote, kidnapper infested areas of Nigeria. With this entertaining suggestion in mind, a viable compromise would be to make NYSC service voluntary, whereby new graduates can decide for themselves whether they would be willing to risk torture, starvation and death at the hands of bloodthirsty Islamist slave raiders, in order to become the primary medical care givers to villagers in remote areas of the country. Terminate the NYSC entirely, or make it VOLUNTARY for all. |
| Re: A Relative Travelled From Ibadan To Imo To Deliver Ransom - Family by nairalanda1(m): 4:46am On Oct 09 |
Jakumo:A very tiny minority of NYSC members get kidnapped. Most do not. Also, while I blame the government for not handling crime very well, crime does happen. Taking your argument here to its logical conclusion, one should not step out of his or her house, or travel because of the risk of running into criminals or an accident, or whatever. With this entertaining suggestion in mind, a viable compromise would be to make NYSC service voluntary, whereby new graduates can decide for themselves whether they would be willing to risk torture, starvation and death at the hands of bloodthirsty Islamist slave raiders, in order to become the primary medical care givers to villagers in remote areas of the country.Won't work. Even if Nigeria was a safe nation, most graduates would chose the city over the rural areas. City got more resources than rural areas. Terminate the NYSC entirely, or make it VOLUNTARY for all.The result is still the same...mass illiteracy. and healthcare issues, among other problems. The issue is, your government at all levels has made oil the basis of government revenue, and the oppostion shows no signs they would change that if they take power. Make taxation and industrialization and the production of finished goods for export the basis of our economy and government revenue, and mayhaps, the rural areas may be properly developed to at least accomodate people. But even then, the problem is, people do not want to live in the village. I think NYSC must be scrapped, but the problems arising from the scrapping are bad for the national interest. Welcome to real life. |

nairalanda1:Even if the statistical odds don't favor the tragic outcome of winding up as a kidnapped victim who could be tortured or killed in the forest, new graduates should, as free citizens of a democratic country, be granted the prerogative to evaluate those risks as adults, before deciding whether to roll the dice and confront those perils, or to simply embark on their lucrative careers in any place of their choosing worldwide. With Nigerian Computer Science graduates now highly sought in the UK, this freedom to choose one's destiny is essential, and should be granted for new graduates immediately. It is encouraging to see you readily acknowledge that the NYSC has outlived its usefulness and should now be consigned to the sewage conduit of history, especially now that Nigeria is under siege by Islamist slave-raiding kidnapper gangs, but all the same, to appease those who still doggedly support the NYSC concept, making NYSC service voluntary would be an equitable compromise that falls short of an outright termination which such a worthless program truly merits. |
