The crux of the matter is that Atiku, Obi, Duke etal promising return of fuel subsidy are merely desperate for power and not interested in the progress of Nigeria and Nigerians as Tinubu genuinely is. For those knowledgeable enough to have a decent grasp of economics, which is few Nigerians by the way, it will be crystal clear PBAT is leading us in the right direction as the only President since 1999 to initiate the 'tough love reforms that will see Nigeria become developed similar to how Singapore did it. Keeping it short, fuel subsidy will never allow Nigeria and Nigerians become developed as other nations and people are. That is the bottom line anyone can get as an answer putting the enquiry to any AI platform at all. It is almost a scientific fact.

BAT's government has performed poorly, full stop. He isn't a well intentioned but misunderstood visionary. He is exactly what his critics say he is. After all, people have eyes and they can see. They can see when a government preaches one thing but practices something else. BAT's supporters keep falling back on the fuel subsidy mantra - because that's what they are comfortable with and want to argue about. They won't confront the grim statistics that actually deal with outcomes. Statistics which show undeniable mass poverty in Nigeria - and a predatory public sector behemoth that BAT is unwilling to sanitize. Of course, it is entirely possible that he could be re-elected - given the notorious apathy and indifference of Nigerians who still don't understand actions, choices and consequences. But if that happens, Nigerians will have to 'own' that electoral choice - there's no running away from it. In the fullness of time all will be made known. |

I can't possibly take anyone promising the return to any form of fuel subsidy seriously talk less of voting for them. The country can't just afford it. |

DeOTR:Absolutely. We are screwed if we allow anyone take us back into the backward age of fuel subsidy payment. The template of development of Nigeria is crystal clear. Move away from all subsidies, unless palliatives when required, to turn Nigeria into a nation where every citizen, as much as possible, is productive and an asset capable of contributing to national growth and development of our nation. All developed nations, where people earn and live well, have a bedrock of effort and reward capacity. I.e develop yourself into a high level asset, through education and skill acquisition, and be rewarded well. What Nigeria developed was socio-economic indolence anchored around destructive subsidies of many sectors, that turned Nigerians into beggars instead of solutions providers. That is what Tinubu is trying to reverse and it is a catch 22 shame many Nigerians have now become so ruined by weaponising of poverty through subsidy they do not realise they can have a much better life than worrying about where the next Rice and Eba is coming from. Mineral rich, crude oil blessing, large population that can be trained to be very productive, huge consumer market etc, etc. What do we not have? Yet we are squandering it all far worse than nations who have far less but understand the template nations must adopt to become developed. All we have reduced ourselves to is rice and Eba and some wish to reject the President willing to turn as many Nigerians as possible into nation-developing assets who can fish for themselves. Whereas Atiku, Obi etal want to keep Nigerians addicted to being a people who worry alone about their next Rice and Eba meal rather than STEM ( science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics) we can use to transform our nation and be a valuable asset to the world as developed nations are. I pity Nigeria. They have always given you fish and never taught you to fish. That is what has ruined Nigeria. Only Tinubu is trying to teach Nigerians how to fish, be self-sufficient and productive so our nation can become developed. |

Fujiyama:Lol. You dare talk about mass poverty in Nigeria? When has poverty not been prevalent in Nigeria? Tinubu, years before he became President, caused 87% of Northerners to be the most poverty stricken people in Nigeria and not Atiku and co? You've never heard of the saying "things get worse till they gets better"? That is the stage Nigeria is at because of decades of cumulative socio-economic and leadership damage piling up. Nigeria has no buffers, and never prepared any, to withstand the damage we have done to our nation. Meaning a responsible and well-meaning leader has to bite the bullet to do the right thing and run the risk of being unpopular doing so knowing he is doing what is right by the people even if most Nigerians will hate him short-term because they aren't well-informed enough to see beyond cheap fuel plus rice and eba. That is what is proof Tinubu is one of the best President Nigeria has ever had rather than others who gave you numerous subsidies that damned Nigeria to be a nation that can never become developed and condemned Nigerians to be poorer human resources than others have who built the UK, Canada, USA, France etc to be what they are today. |

DeOTR:But it can afford 10 brand new 2026 prado jeeps for Dayo Israel and his Mummy's Men as well as over 20 trillion naira in contracts to Chargoury without appropriation. Buhari spent only a fraction of that amount subsidising fuel all through his 8 years and borrowed less money than Tinubu has done. |

TopBanter:Petrol subsidy if well implemented with a clear auditing process alongside it, maybe. The nonsense PDP implemented, remember NOI's mum was kidnapped because she dared look into it, which Atiku is looking to do, is exactly that. How could we have been borrowing money to be paying subsidy? Clear madness. Atiku himself knows this but just wants to compete with Peter Obi for the most outlandish thing to say, both being well underprepared for the oncoming elections and knowing how far behind they are. |

TopBanter:Some of you don't even know how AI operate. This is the same madness that enveloped you guys during the era of Google. Any small thing, ask Google then. Fuel subsidy removal is the most stu-pid government policy since Adam. Removing fuel subsidy destroyed the economy to the point of national collapse. A reasonable government would have studied the subsidy before making a decision, but not one who never went to school. Who doesn't know what data is. By the way nah data we go chop which is his biggest quote is a proof of his illiteracy in governance |

| Re: What Nigerians Should Know Before Voting Atiku promising Return Of Fuel Subsidy. by focusNig: 11:27am On Nov 03 |
TopBanter:There is no developed country that doesn't offer it's citizens subsidy that more of developing and under-developed countries. America offers subsidy in healthcare and many for industries. The problem of subsidy is corruption not subsidy itself. The government removed subsidy without studying it. How much was subsidy in the first place with all the corruption? Compare it to the destruction of the economy with it's removal. Throwing more than half of the population into abject poverty that the world is even scared of. |

TopBanter:Things must get tough before they get better is a saying people should never celebrate in ai age. When subsidy was been paid, Nigeria borrowed less than now it has been removed. One would think that money saved from the removal of the subsidy would be used to solve the problem we would have borrowed money for if subsidy was still available. But the borrowing has gotten worse. So where is the subsidy money saved |

focusNig:Anytime I see this comment, I always laugh. All the countries that offer subsides do so by hefty taxation. America, you are calling, if America was in charge of enforcing tax laws in nigeria by its system, most ngierians would be in prision for not paying tax, including the rich and the poor. Most nigerians do not pay basic income tax and so forth to federal and state governments. The tax revenue we pay cannot fund half of our budget or one third, it just manages to reach one fifth. VAT funded 8 trillion out of 68 trillion naira of our budget. Also, subsides in those parts of the world are limited production subsides. Not the consumption subsides that we did for over fifty years that essentially forced NNPC to operate at a loss for decades leading to our refineries collapsing as a result...from 400000 in 1991 to 91000 in 2012 to 6000 in 2019, barrells per day. And the subsides they do are not permanent. The foolk that get permanent subsidy are those who are very very very poor...and they have to prove it before they qualify. And yes corruption dey, especially when you realize that subsidy budgets were based on estimates. Not on actual realites on the ground. And the subsides we had, most of the time we were paying for them with borrowed money because income from oil, even on good days was not enough all the time...that is a big part of why we have been borrowing for decades, and why we have a massive debt...the same debt which forced the removal of subsidy. And WE WERE WARNED IN 1993 THAT IT WAS NOT SUSTAINABLE. We chose not to listen...and that's how we missed TAM for the next 14 years. By the time we resumed, it was effing too too late. I am not a tinubu supporter. I want him out. But you go call me tinubu supporter because you don';t read widely. All the information I have put out is based on publically available material. Note that I no dey excuse government...government that cannot raise money for nigeria is a bad government. Like this tinubu one. |

TopBanter:^^^ ![]() And why not? It is a problem, isn't it? TopBanter:^^^ ![]() BAT supporters can't afford to say this, I'm afraid. Your man's duty is to solve problems - not to tell us what the problems are. We already know what they are. TopBanter:^^^ No. No one has time to play the blame game. BAT knew there was poverty up North before gunning for the top job, didn't he? God damn it, he knew! I will say it again - BAT asked for this job. He asked for it, fought for it and promised heaven and earth if he got it. In the end he did get it - and he has to fulfil his promises. This isn't the time for excuses. It's time to deliver. No ifs, no buts. TopBanter:^^^ ![]() Yet more essays on the problem. We all know how we got here. The problem is that BAT promised to get us out of here - and he hasn't done so. TopBanter:^^^ ![]() This is funny. What do you mean "we"? TopBanter:^^^ No. No. The Tinubu administration is the embodiment of what one critic aptly termed "the imbalance of sacrifice". BAT isn't biting any bullets. Not at all. All his needs and expenses are well taken care of - from the public purse. It is ordinary Nigerians whose molars are worn down right to the enamel - and they are still being told by BAT to chew on that hard, cold lead, day in day out. The BAT administration doesn't practice what it preaches - and four years on, people can see that very clearly. The administration is wasteful, arrogant and sadly, inept. Nothing can justify BAT's corpulent bureaucracy (which he has resolutely refused to reform) while ordinary Nigerians are being stretched to the limit - and beyond. When will the so-called reforms be extended to the public sector under BAT? When? TopBanter:^^^ We've gone over this so many times, its more than tiring. BAT has failed to deliver on his campaign promises. And that's all that counts. Ordinary Nigerians are not interested in sterile, academic, policy post-mortems. Let the economists handle that. Nigerians want measurable improvements in their material condition - and BAT hasn't been able to provide that. You mention subsidies. . I have one question for you: Who paid for the Saudi trip by all those government officials with BAT last week? Who? ![]() |

nairalanda1:Have you ever heard about tax breaks or tax refunds in Nigeria? Why have those paying not received at anytime tax incentives? Because the tax system is fraudulent in Nigeria. Can people who don't earn pay tax? More than 50% of Nigerians depends on others to feed. In developed countries as well as in Nigeria. Tax is collected from your employer or business. Tax is from income. How can you pay tax without income? |
