I want to ask Nairaland MODs. Why is it that Muslims can make posts and comment and insult the Christian institutions and leaders all in the name of Political comments. But Christians have some level of restrictions to comment on Muslim posts?

This is injustice.

This is the reason for muslim muslim ticket. When Christians like this are suspended for being in politics. So how do we as Christians make an impact, if we don't get involved.
Do you sound sensible/coherent even to yourself?

Onaiyekan is becoming nuisance, a respected priest must know wen to be critical of govt and not always lamenting at all time.

It seems he is a dictator and someone who wants everyone to do his biddings.

If he doesn't stop complaining at all times, and allow opposition and public analysts to do the criticism, he would be disgraced by those that are supposed to respect him.

The constitution mandates that all democratically elected executive office holders from the President , VP , Governors , Deputy Governors down to Local Govt Chairmen must resign from any private profiting or paid professional roles once they are sworn into office.

Onyaiken ranting that Governor Alia has been suspended from carrying out his duties as a Catholic Reverend holds no water as the constitution of Nigeria - which remains supreme and above even the Catholic church mandates that Reverend Alia should temporarily relieve himself of being a Catholic priest and to concentrate on governing Benue state which he is now a governor.

Onyaiken can rant all he likes about Alia being suspended by the Bishop superior but the fact remains that the good Reverend - while forever still remaining an ordained priest unless excommunicated by the Pope and Pope alone - has by constitutional mandate since relieved himself from performing mass.

Note that Onyaiken's declaration of Alia being suspended by his Bishop superior only translates to the Reverend being forbidden to carry out mass.

So onyaiken can be rest assured that after the good Reverend completes his tenure , Reverend Alia will be returning back to the church to perform mass .

The muslim op is more concerned with what happens in the catholic church that has been in existence for 2000yrs.
Anyway after governor Alia's governorship he can choose to be a lay member of the church or become an imam if he so wish.
According to the church, his suspension stands! He can't disgrace the church in his unbridled quest for power while acting like the usual half baked APC thug like politicians.
A new Nigeria is possible!
Is Alia the first clergy to hold political office in Nigeria, even from same Catholic faith,we had Gov Rufus Ada George from same Benue state amd he had similar issues during his time, also jolly Nyame of taraba state was also ofnthe clergy.

Its a church matter we all agree and the church as every right to sanction any part of ot as it deems fit......however cardinal Onaiyekan on the other hand has so blurred the sanctity that separates the murky waters of politics from the pulpit........his supposed elder statesman status and has been badly tainted to making it impossible to portray him as he is claiming to be.

People should stop hyping all these titles here and there especially Nigerians. Which one be most distinguished? Nigerians hype men of God so much as if dem clean pass Jesus. Any man of God that speaks with bias and show Partisan will definitely be dragged, I don't care. Nobody holy pass, we are all deceiving ourselves.

Even if the Pope contests and wins executive position in Nigeria, the constitution mandates that the Pope must resign from his ecclesiastic duties and concentrate as an elected executive officer.

Whose the Muslim ?

What makes you assume I am a Muslim,?

Because I don't support the ongoing genocide on the real Semitic people in Palestine , I am a Muslim.

Because I condemn Onyaiken dragging Rev Alia for not supporting his annionted Giringori, I am now a Muslim.

You guys are really funny.

You cannot stand on a shaky mandate that even the owner of the mandate has refused to stand ,to pass judgment on the Catholic Church, an institution with over 2,000 years of history. Stop trying to reduce the Church to your level of thinking. The Catholic Church is beyond your nonsense.

Are you Roman Catholic? Cos you sound so stupid trying to analyze canon law. I dare Alia to reply the cardinal. One letter to Rome and Alia will be laicized, the guy is not special and he knows that too. Google the word incase you don’t know it.

Rev Alia is even a better Rev .
He came out openly and joined politics.
He is not an hypocrite.

Onaiyekan on the other hand is a political jobber hiding under Cassocks
Re: Why Onyaiken's Suspension Of Governor Alia Is Null And Void by owobokiri(m): 7:39am On Oct 11
Ignorant partisan hacks dabbling into solemn issues well above their pay grade..
Everything is not politics.
Rev Fr Alia was suspended way before he became a governor. Catholics have a very rigid "Code of Conduct" for the ordained.
The Prirsts have to follow that religiously. So when you start going against those rules, the Bishops have to step in to either reign you in as was the case with Father Mbaka, or derobb you as is the case with Fr Alia.
I dont have the facts as to his "crime", but from his conduct as a governor, it is safe to say that the "traits" are there..
Bishop Onaiyekan, as a revered elder in Catholicism, was just trying to remind the restless governor of Benue State of the need to inform all concerned that he has since been derobbed.
It's that simple.

Is the catholic church a "private profiting or a paid professional role"?

Alia has no choice .

A governor is expected to resign and relinquish all his previous professional position and roles held before he was sworn in.

I am even sure the Rev got the bishop to suspend him from his role as a catholic priest
Are you so ignorant that there's a difference between. Suspension and resignation?

He will be complaining all times because all we have seen under The APC are maladministration, hunger, looting and bad governance all the time.
The people bearing the net effects of all these evils, are his flock, the people he preaches to and interacts with all day. He owes it a duty to them to shout from the mountain top untill all bad men in pwer are either chased away or the situation is changed for the better.
So on this one, he is right and you are terribly wrong!
You are always wrong anyways..

Whatever position you hold, dear Op, you destroyed your point by repeatedly maintaining that the revered Onaiyekan was "ranting", and in the same piece referring to Gov Alia as "the good reverend"! How nah?

Even the governor.in anger wouldn't say in public that Rev Onaiyekan is ranting.

If you are indeed a paid writer, you definitely are not worth a dime.

I am not a Catholic but I know how etiquettes go.
