Awolowo's specific thinking was that the Easr, West and North consisted Nigeria. If the East left then the West will too because the nation is compromised cannot be viewed Nigeria any longer and the West will not be willing, alone, to share nationhood with the backwards North.

How do we fear self-rule? The reality is that, as a law abiding ethnic group, we respect the rule of law.

You think we do not want our own nation? We do but know the constitution forbids it. That is why Awolowo instituted a formal petition to have a secession clause included in our constitution so that regions that wish to leave the Nigerian union can do so peacefully.

Azikiwe opposed Awolowo and Azikiwe won at the hearing convened to determine which position should be adopted.

I.e Azikiwe backed the prevention of any region from seceding from Nigeria and also supported the criminalisation of attempted seccession as an act of treason. He won at the hearing and here we are today.

The Yorubas, consistently, have never dropped the idea of self-rule but we felt compelled to do it within the ambits of the law hence our choice of working for regional autonomy as we knew secession would be virtually impossible to achieve with the constitution of Nigeria and the North vehemently against it.

That determination remains today with how five APC Governors, and one PDP Governor, openly defies their APC President Buhari to make the demand below your governors can never make in a thousand years.

That is because they are too greedy, unprincipled, cowardly and disinterested in fighting for what is best for Igbos if that means they have to make personal sacrifices.

The Governors below are telling Buhari we are ready to resign as Governors and serve under a regional premier in the best interest of Yoruba land.

Show one example of your elected political leaders (not renegades like Kanu, Ekpa, Uwazurike etal) haven ever done similar.
