Advertisements on federal roads and bridges must be approved by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works.

The minister of works, Engineer Dave Umahi, inspected the Niger Bridge, which had been vandalised and saw MTN and other adverts on the bridge. He ordered that the adverts should be removed and replaced with photos of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

However he later discovered that a previous government had given the advertising rights on the bridge to a private company. It was the company that allowed MTN to advertise on the bridge.

Engineer Umahi said that he paid the private company with his own money in order to erect photos of President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima and all the governors of South-East and South-South states on the bridge.

He said that Obidients, who had been complaining about the photos of Tinubu on the bridge, can also pay the company to place their photos on the bridge.

De-Peters is an Obidient content creator. He makes videos in support of Mr Peter Obi and he often attacks people (like the South-East governors) who do not support Obi (he said that there were few Obi-Kwankwaso billboards in the South-East and he blamed South-East governors for this).

He discovered that the Niger Bridge had been vandalised and he made a video about it. The minister of works visited the bridge shortly afterwards and rehabilitation of the bridge commenced immediately.

De-Peters kept making videos of the bridge as the works progressed. He documented the installation of CCTV cameras, the installation of solar streetlights, the erection of the demarcation barriers, the road markings, etc.

He also told us that there was a woman living on the bridge, just directly below the roadway. It is believed that she has mental health challenges. Residents of the area said that she once gave birth but that the baby fell into the river.

Obidients have been insulting him all the while. They said that he has been paid by Umahi and that he was promoting ordinary rehabilitation.

Yesterday he said that the controller of works called him and said that the bridge would be reopened yesterday and that the minister wanted to see him. He explained that he made videos of the bridge because he thought that the work might be abandoned if he did not put pressure on government. He said that his videos were not political.

He made this video below after the ceremony. It shows him with Dave Umahi at the reopening of the bridge and then he followed the minister to the airport and saw his departure back to Abuja. You can see reactions in the screenshots below.

When new roads and bridges were being built, people complained that old roads were not being maintained and that every single road in the country must be maintained before any new road or bridge is built.

When roads and bridges are being maintained people complained that nothing should be said about it, afterall it's just maintenance.
