"From Grace to Poverty, the "Truthful Sins" committed by Police PRO Alozie Ogugbuaja." In 1986, he was a celebrated Police PRO for Lagos, 10 years later, Alozie Ogugbuaja was living in abject poverty. What was his sin?https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DvufGzRhJ/ Many Nigerians would still remember Alozie Ogugbuaja, a former superintendent of Police of the pepper soup theory fame. In the mid 1980s, Alozie Ogugbuaja, then a Police Public Relations Officer in Nigeria, upset his superiors when he publicly stated that coup plotting was often the outcome of boredom in the barracks.

"Mr.Alozie Ogugbuaja was a radical Police officer, a catalyst for a change, a fearless fang. Above all he was a heart of stone to defend his colleagues and comrades on arms. I noticed this in him on the day Babangida took over the government from Buhari.I was amongst the people arrested that night under the Maryland flyover bridge by the military men at about o455hrs while we were on night patrol. We were escorted to the front of Ikeja cantoment by our captors on heavy gun points. We were later escorted to the Police headquarters Oduduwa GRA Ikeja, Until about 1015 am, we were ordered to sit on the bare floor on the road along Oduduwa street GRA. None of our police senior officers came out to sympathize with us, except our P.P.R.O lagos state - Mr Alozie He was threatened and punished for our sake yet brought some loaves of bread for us as prisoners of war. Now, I am in tears, I cannot continue to tell you my experience together with Mr. Alozie on that very day.He was asked by the soldiers who captured us, to swim in the mud water, because they knew him as the Pro. and nick named him, as Mr. pepper soup teacher ....… "( Ihende Saturday on Facebook). "It's Unfortunate that majority of his Colleagues and the Junior's doesn't Recognised and Appreciate someone who sacrifice his Job for what many of them (Police) are enjoying today and that's why it's difficult to come across an honest Policeman. It's just that most of the serving officers of today never been recruited even the Current IGP when he was doing his job and I believe someone should take a bold step to assist the man (ALOZIE OGUGBUAJA) if still alive, what an Honest Policeman he was. He was the Sacred Cow (MAN) that change the face 👀 of NPF Service to the NATION 🇳🇬 and he deserves to be Honoured by most of the retired Senior Officers in the Police Service Commission led by MIKE OKIRO and other former IGPs who benefitted in the struggles, my submission thanks 👍. Igbos are always bold @speaking the truth to power.Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe confront Babangida on the OIC issue before resigning from military in the late 1980s. Then R.Adr Ndubuisi Kanu also told Abacha the solemn truth on the June 12 crisis Well, it's better to loose everything and die in truth than to live in lies and die shamefully at the end all is vanity This is because "conscience is an open wound only truth can heal it." Alozie Ogugbuaja is from Umuehim Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia state. A very brilliant son of Ngwa land. He was a very brave and intelligent police officer. The problem of police which he pointed out than have not been solved. The same military are still enjoying the government of Nigeria even in a democratic system more than the police. Alozie truly saw all these abnormalies. |

Racoon:And he turned it into a tribalist thing at the end of the day. That's why I don't like Nairaland. Any post about a brave Nigerian, becomes a tribal thing at the end of the day. Sigh. |

Sorry that the people you fought for are spineless cowards. This country does not celebrate Heroes . Instead it rewards criminals, in the highest form possible. From president To VP To chief of staff To former VP To former Governors. All are criminals and evil bunch. |

Pootle:Unwise, yes, but right. And the sad thing is that 40 years later, the NPF is still poorly funded, and it's officers are poorly renumerated today. Yet, nothing is done, and all past and this current government do not want to do what we need to make our economy prosperous enough to properly fund the police. And now they want to set up 36 versions of the same poorly funded and poorly renumerated police in the name of state police. Nigerians self. Like leaders, like followers. |

| Re: The Sad Story Of Former Police PRO, Alozie Ogugbuaja by nairalanda1(m): 9:40am On Oct 21 |
cyrusmillz:(Imma going to be controlversial here) The only way to properly fund the police is to change the way our economy is run, and to widen the tax base. Nigerian leaders 40 years ago, and Nigerian leaders today do not want to do that, as that means making hard choices, actually fighting corruption , both of which are unpopular. Fighting corruption does not mean arresting the big men, it also means arresting the small petty corrupt little men and women. That is why Nigerians do not really like fighting corruption And changing the economy means a generation where most of the population works long and hard making industrial products for export. No one wants that, everyone wants to live well. But that is how your china and south korea and even Japan did that, One to three generations did the 3 d's work to make those countries prosperous and industrial...and able to fund evenryting. And widening the tax base is also very unpopular. As a result we don't have the money to fund the police, and to fund things like the supporting structures for a good police force...froensices, ctv, records, traning, etc. That is why 40 years since this brave man spoke up, nothing has changed |

Iceberg3:You are free to believe whatever you want to believe of me, but as far as I am concerned any yourba person doing the same is also a bigot. Like I said, I don't like Nairaland because many achievements of Nigerians are turned into tribal things. But like I said, you are free to believe what you like. I have no dog in the fight, as I am neither yourba or igbo, or even hausa fulani self. |

In Nigeria, the system both as a public servant and as a private worker frown against revolt. Their law states that you must never ever speak the truth cos if u do, U will be severely purnished. I thinking saying the truth is part of their policies. So Ogugbuaja spoke against the policy. ![]() |

![]() This is so upsetting. The IBB administration made this man miserable because he spoke the truth about Nigerian soldiers. His criticism of the police hierarchy didn't catch their attention - it was his 'pepper soup theory' that 'peppered dem for bodi' and they went after him. Today are we not all paying the price for ignoring him and those like him? I hope the man is well, if he is still alive. His troubles began a long time ago and Nigeria isn't kind to policemen who speak truth to power. |
| Re: The Sad Story Of Former Police PRO, Alozie Ogugbuaja by cyrusmillz: 10:01am On Oct 21 |
nairalanda1:Why i agree with some of the points you mentioned, I'm mostly concerned about our culture itself. I honestly know that most Nigerians do not want any form of change , they just want the corruption to benefit them. But, why do we have this cowardice outlook to life. Even when someone stands up to challenge a system , there's always no support even from the same set of people suffering the same fate , just like the case of this policeman. |

Pootle:He was a Police Officer whose duty is to take actions and initiatives to safeguard the people. He was not a politician angling for power, so I don't know where your socalled "47 Laws" come in here.. Some times, in order to rescue the society, you have to speak truth to power. That's the way it works. You just don't have to be treacherously and cunningly involved in acts that only further your personal quest. |

Sensible people have long advocated for unionization of the NPF. Nigeria borrows all sorts of rubbish from the US but as usual, ignores the important stuff. The US has police unions. There is no reason why we can't have that here. This is what the Ogugbuaja man was talking about but he was eventually forced out by the powers that be. Some deluded people have somehow contrived to deceive themselves that the recently drafted state police legislation is fit for purpose. Those people need to go back and review the parliamentary sessions on the Bill - and study its provisions carefully. When the issue of setting up guard rails in the Bill (to avoid repeating the mistakes we have made with the federal NPF) was brought up in parliament, what did Nigerian lawmakers say? ![]() I give the new state police just 6 months. By the time the honeymoon phase has passed, the complaints will begin - and Nigerians will remember (with great pain) how their lawmakers sold them out at the critical stage when the law was being made. By then of course, it will be far too late to do anything about it. |

owobokiri:i dont get your point, the book does not relate to political power tussle alone but on decisions made in our everyday life especially in an organization. try look it up and see things through yourself. i read that book in 2001 my elder bro who was in uni borrowed and forgot to take it back with him when school resumed i didnt jus read, i read to understand and follow it alot, the firm i work now when i came i was list in my department but now i head it not because i am the smartest but following the unconventional guideline of life, on the part of rescuing the society is like trying to fight what is bigger than you. and that will always be futile, best is making change of your immediate environment what you can easily effect a change on, even in his time everyone knows that the police were poorly funded speaking out was just stating the obvious. the current IG was the the former lagos RRS commandant in that space he transformed the unit and was picked as the IG, with the hope of him replicating what he did with RRS. nigerians dont really know how change works, it start with every one doing his own little bits not passing it to anyone |
