Seems the CBN of Nigeria doe not moderate these loan app. Here they rip off customers and now i know why it is difficult for customers to repay there loans While the interface lists a "Monthly Interest" of 10.5%, the actual cost of borrowing reveals predatory terms. Over a short 6-month period, you are being charged ₦504,000 in interest on a principal loan of ₦800,000. The Breakdown • Total Repayment Amount: ₦1,304,000 • Total Cost of Interest: ₦504,000 • Total Interest Rate over 6 Months: 63% • True Annual Percentage Rate (APR): 126% Hidden Traps & Wealth Risks • Extremely High APR: Commercial bank loans or regulated financial institution lines of credit in Nigeria generally charge between 25% to 40% annually. This app's annualized rate of 126% is triple that standard, meaning it degrades your wealth rapidly. • The "Daily Consumption" Trap: The screenshot notes this loan is intended for "Daily consumption". Borrowing high-interest debt to pay for day-to-day living expenses is a dangerous cycle that frequently results in a debt trap. • Aggressive Rollover Penalty: The terms indicate a 1% daily rollover fee for late payments. If you miss a payment deadline by just 10 days, you will face an extra penalty of 10% of your outstanding balance. • Aggressive Recovery Tactics: Digital lending applications partnered with fintech platforms (such as EaseMoni or OKash via OPay) often utilize automated and highly invasive collection strategies, including debiting connected bank balances or contacting smartphone address books. My Recommendation Avoid taking this loan. Paying over half a million Naira just to borrow ₦800,000 for six months is an unsustainable financial burden. If you require funding, prioritize exploring low-interest options such as a salary advance from your traditional commercial bank or personal loans from traditional community microfinance banks.

ironheart:Thanks for your expert analysis Yes, these terms can seem high. But then again, these loan apps literally cash in on consumers due to their ease of processing and speed. Sadly, the traditional options you recommend often seem to be trapped in 1990s thinking, demanding all sorts of ridiculous KYC requirements. Like you, I do NOT recommend loan apps. BUT I also know of people who are able to fund projects by smart use of these loan apps. These people would never have been able to do so if they had gone the traditional route. In summary, the traditional funding options need to step up their game Thanks again for sharing P.S. You forgot to mention JV/partnership options as alternatives to loans. Partnership with the right person can be more profitable, with less headaches. |

ironheart:Stop misleading people, the interest they charged is in line with the rate they stated which is 10.5%! the total interest on a loan of 800,000 at the rate of 10.5% for 6 months comes to 800,000 x 10.5% x 6 which equals 504,000. The loans they are given are highly risky for them because they are not backed by any collateral therefore therefore the interest cost will naturally be high If you want a loan with single-digit interest rate go and meet UBA of First Bank but be ready to present a collateral security which presents at least 200% cover for the loan amount then be ready to wait for the loan to go through approval from branch level up to at least regional branch head office which will take at least 2 weeks! |

SamuraiXXX:sir/madam, where did i mislead people with what i have written? It is a case where one need to understand the difference between Loan app vs traditional loan lending. Mind you i enjoy taking loans and some quality projects with them. But here a lot of people do not understand how the loan terms works. Beside they advertise low interest but when you want to take the loan you realise the percentage is more than half the amount you have borrowed. We all need ro speak up. Other countries are surviving on loan and kudos to opay for lending to Nigerians. They need to work on the interest to enable more people get on board and also be able to pay. |

I think your calculation is very wrong . That 10.5percent is supposed to be per year not per month. Elementary simple interest calculation taught us to 6/12 for the tenure SamuraiXXX: |
