No matter what we do, doctors will continue to leave for their country of choice because that is where we train them for.

How many Community Health Officers have left the country after training?

Train doctors the way China train their doctors for China. From Barefoot Doctors.

Even India with almost the same "International Standard" mentality as Nigeria, keeps more doctors at home than Nigeria because they are trained for local remedies. Ayurveda barefoot doctors.

Apart from the children of Babalawo that were lured to medical schools through Primary Healthcare, Nigerian doctors specialize in "Abroad Diseases" taking overseas exams before they even graduate.
what kind of brain fugue are you spewing ?

The reason why Nigerian Doctors are leaving is because your government have refused to pay them well
A senator earns more than a doctor where is that done in the world ?
China that you are yapping about pays their doctors more than this cursed government has.

The challenge now is whether improved welfare, better hospital infrastructure and sustained investment in healthcare can help reverse the trend.
Unfortunately, you cannot pay them

I expect these types of reactions from those who think the way to the bank is through medical training.

1. In the first place the Britain most Nigerian doctors run to, no longer pay them better than nurses or other workers, sending them to areas they refused to work in Nigeria with odd shifts.

2. Those who trained Nigerian before the 80s you indicated, left well paying jobs abroad to come home.

3. The Scandinavian countries do not pay doctors more than other workers and they do not japa.

4. Canadian doctors do not japa to the States for more money. Those who did, run back home.

5. Have you ever asked why Nigerian doctors do not japa to Eastern countries?

It is not only doctors that japa for more money, Nigeriaca never afford to pay them as social or humanitarian workers, many Nigerians do and those doing well in Nigeria regret but too ashamed to run back.

If Nigerian doctors want more money, work night and day like doctors abroad.

Money and greed is the DNA of most Nigerians. This is why NIGERIA is regressing. Until our VALUES change back to traditional cultures, Nigeria is done!

lies upon lies
This is how I know that you are simply wishing out on propaganda.
Before APC came into power and destroyed the economy , the current salary structure was manageable and doctors were not leaving in droves.
inflation is up by 500% but your salary is up by 20% shameful.
A sane government will adjust salary structure to match economy for its civil servants but nope they will rather spend billions on political campaigns
If you compare the salaries of doctors in these countries you mentioned you see that Nigeria is the lowest with little allowances attached to it.
At FMC the least a doctor who has gone through medical school, graduated and is done with housejob earns 450,000 naira which is roughly $333 but 12 years ago this was $1700 per month with good access to security, insurance , free education for his children etc.

I will say it again that the reason doctors japa to better countries is that countries like Nigeria have decided to impoverish doctors by paying them peanuts.

Simple as that

Look get a life.

There are other professionals more beneficial to the country deserving better pay than physicians. Medicine is not the most difficult field, engineering is, and they get nasty pay. that is if they can even be gainfully employed.

If Nigeria pampered engineers the way doctors are spoiled, we will be the rival of the Asian countries in technology. Then maybe we could pay doctors like the countries you japa to.

Medicine is a social and humanitarian service but I must say, we like other countries value doctors because they save lives. It is not the way to break the bank. The best scientists are busy with research getting little pay.

Until you realize government jobs are not the way to get rich, demanding a larger share of the pie every other government is getting paid from, no matter how much you are paid, you will japa as always. Japa and go and wash toilets until you pass youy exams or get posted to Alaska.

If you want to get rich, quit government job and go into private practice. There is no difference between your demand and that of politicians looting the Treasury.

BTW, take political parties and politics out of this. No government can meet your demand or should meet it when there are more pressing needs out there.

All of you are reacting to what an old Oniranu is saying.
He knows exactly why doctors are leaving and he knows they will keep leaving. He knows exactly the damage he's done.

It's just sheer wickedness disguised as concern.
