Nigeria: Pensioners Urge Tinubu to Pay Arrears

26 March 2003
This Day (Lagos)

Lagos — Pension teachers in Lagos State under the aegis of Teacher Pensioners of Nigeria (TEPAN) have urged Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to review his stance on paying the harmonised three year old outstanding pension allowance or risk losing their votes.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of TEPAN, Mr. Ayodabo 'Lade, accused Tinubu of failing to pay the arrears to teachers on their correct pension grade since the year 2000, contrary to what was obtainable in other five States of the South-west controlled by the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

Federal workers demand N35,000 wage award arrears

Federal civil servants have called on the Federal Government to urgently clear the outstanding three months of the N35,000 wage award, citing the rising cost of living and the critical role the arrears play in alleviating financial pressures.

The wage award, negotiated with labour unions in 2023, was intended as a temporary cushion to ease workers’ burdens during the government’s ongoing economic reforms.

At the time, labour unions had threatened nationwide strikes if their demands for improved compensation and cost-of-living adjustments were not met.

While five months of the wage award have been partially paid in staggered tranches, workers have voiced growing frustration over the delay in completing the remaining payments.

Did the staff complain to you? Nigerians are supporting ADC for free and are willing to work pro-bono. Why swallow panadol for another man's headache? Unlike the APC, the ADC are not doling out 2026 prados to youth coordinators from the proceeds of our subsidy savings.

grin grin grin You're really funny,I pray God forgives you.

I don't expect you to know this but a political party is a voluntary organisation. Where's the evidence that ADC owes anyone?
If politics is volouteer work why is Atiku fighting tooth and nail to become president?

The worst offence an employer can commit against humanity is to owe your workers at the end of the month. If you can't pay them dismiss them. Owing salaries is pure wickedness.

Hmmm, Dem go talk tire, you can't give what u don't have. This present government is a monumental failure.
Pay your workers. This is pure wickedness. Is it that Atiku is broke? Maybe this is the reason why he desperately wants to be president.
