Good people, I don't stay permanently in Nigeria, but I visit twice in a year. I have solar system setup in my house and I was told to switch everything off when I was leaving Nigeria in June this year. The person who installed the solar system messaged me yesterday to send somebody to put on the system for at least 12 hours. I will be going to Nigeria in December. What's going to happen if I leave the system unused? Please, I need your advice. Thank you. |

Nachory:Why not buy a WiFi controlled socket so you can just set a reminder for it come on and off perpetually |

Nachory:It depends on the battery. If it's lithium, it only loses a little charge each month while switched off, so if it was full when you left in June it should still be fine by December. If it was low when you left, it could drain too far and lock itself out. If it's tubular or any lead-acid battery, six months unused is bad news. Those really need charging every month or they lose capacity for good. Your installer is right to suggest switching it on. Better still, ask him if the system can be left with only the solar charging on and the house supply off. That way the panels keep the battery topped up while you're away and nobody needs to visit. The WiFi socket idea won't help much, because it's the battery that needs charging, not the sockets. |
