MTN will say you 44mb remaining of over 2gb data you just bought. MTN you guys are criminals and extortionists, period!
Re: Why Nigerians’ Data Finishes Fast — MTN by Josywhyte: 12:25pm On Oct 27
I had over 2gb data in my phone and MTN went ahead to deduct my airtime. I called their useless customer service and their people were telling cock and cull stories. You guys are the biggest scammers in 2026

So all or let me say most Nigerians are guilty of these but when they switch to Airtel or Glo none of such happen.

MTN are nothing but a bunch of corrupt thieving entity. They should've shush it which is quite synonymous with them instead of this nonsense they are spewing.

Let say NC were effective MTN wouldn't be saying this horse shit...

Re: Why Nigerians’ Data Finishes Fast — MTN by MrGerald(m): 12:39pm On Oct 27
Do you know when you open your hotspot to another user, it'll consume lots of data because it'll be connected as Wi-Fi and most of the updates queuing in the background would start automatically.
Re: Why Nigerians’ Data Finishes Fast — MTN by Humphrey1111: 12:46pm On Oct 27
An average nigerian belongs to dozen WhatsApp groups and in those groups, some lunntics spam them.

Exactly 💯 Airtel seems last longer. I was expecting my data to have exhausted courtesy of mtn I have been using or used to, bit to my surprise I keep browsing as if say na unlimited.

And this stupid mtn once they know you're subscribing for particular bundle they will systematically increase the price by 70% knowing fully you're bond with. They are exploitative in all their dealings thieves. I don port go Airtel
.. even when I watch YouTube video at midnight (12am -5am).. instead of MTN to reduct my data from YouTube night data..MTN will instead reduct my data from my main data .so I will soon leave this MTN

Lies and more lies. The govt should do something about this
Have you independently verified the claims you're making, or has a credible independently third party verified them?
There's a difference between questioning a company's position, disagreeing with its claims and outrightly accusing it of lying. Such a serious accusation should be supported by verifiable evidence not merely assumptions, opinions or speculation.

MakindeHassan:
This is a very generic and typical defensive response of a Nigerian business.

People have also complained about traveling abroad and maintaining the same data consumption habits and it doesn’t drain as fast.

Someone gave an explanation which I believe more, he said when your data network is bad your phone sends request multiple times. Each time that request is broken or gets timed out your phone has to send it again, thereby duplicating your request and accelerating your usage.

Address the bad network.
Who run the Nigerian companies? Nigerians. So Nigerians are the problems of Nigerians and everyone accusing the other. That makes you and the company you work for not different.
The claim can be tested and independently verified.
In abroad, you have unlimited data plans, so you're not charged by the gig.
MTN have the best network in Nigeria so your explanation doesn't hold.

One word: YES. Their rates are among the highest, if not the highest, in the industry. Secondly, the very fact that the company has felt compelled to address this issue suggests that it has received numerous complaints, perhaps far more than other telecommunications companies.

On the flip side, MTN has the largest subscriber base, which could partly explain the volume of complaints. Nevertheless, the concerns are sufficiently widespread to warrant greater transparency regarding how subscribers' data is measured and consumed.

All those are true. We know, but you still steal data.
It's a lie,
I know more of phone from back days of java, symbian, blackberry os then came andriod,
Mtn do it on purpose, they need more money, drain ur data fast so I will pay for another subscription,
I put off all my apps , even have data eye on my phone to help block any app from consuming data in background, u can't use 3gb data for 1week and half,
But back days of symbian Nokia, u can use 200mb for a month

We know this,
Mtn is lying to cover face, their data rate is expensive, I don dey browse on phone since 2005 and broke the record by being the first in Nigeria to browse on NEC mobile phone back in 2006 when even all network providers couldn't get NEC e228,e313,e616 etc browse, it's the same NEC e313 I used to source out on Google till I found Seun nairaland May 2006 and registered, Seun suppose buy me car, I swear,
I upgraded to symbian Nokia 6680, N70, n73, n78, n79, n80, 6220 classic,5800 music express before ending up with blackberry 9860
Mtn is lying to u, they will tell u 10kobo per kilobyte but u will be billed 50kobo per kilobyte and u won't know,
Tell me, how do u calculate ur kilobyte per page u visit?
Who get that time to dey calculate, so...they rip u off

Interesting. You stated that you independently verified that the company consumes user data at a rate higher than what is acceptable.

Let's stick to the science.

What exactly did you verify?
What methodology did you use?
Would you be willing to make the methodology, raw measurements, test conditions, and supporting evidence available so that others can assess whether your conclusion is justified?

These are not intended to dismiss your concerns but to establish the factual basis for them.

The MTN nonsense that I just abandoned.
Imagine since last Months,l loaded Data for 2k did not used it,yet it did not appear on my Account.
Same this Week and I quickly port to Glow alternative.
MTN go Explain tire- for they think they are wise.
Indeed, NIGERIA Needs More of New Set of existing Companies like ( Mtn, Airtel and GLow- to bring down the High Cost of Calls and Data.
Afterall, NIGERIA has a Huge Market!
