nedu666:Femi Fani-Kayode was minister of aviation sometime around 2006. President Gaddafi of Libya came to Nigeria. Usually when a foreign head of state is coming to Nigeria there are international protocols that determine the number of bodyguards that he can bring and how many of them will be armed. President Gaddafi had a habit of violating those agreements. So President Gaddafi came to Nigeria with a lot of bodygaurds in 2006. The bodyguards were all armed and many of them were women. Femi Fani-Kayode ordered Aviation Security to ensure that the bodyguards do not leave the tarmac. He said that only the previously agreed number of bodyguards should be allowed past the tarmac. The Libyans complained and objected. President Obasanjo appealed to Gaddafi to accept the regulations. At a point Gaddafi got angry and began walking towards the exit on foot. Femi Fani-Kayode stood his grounds. He said that Nigeria was a sovereign country and no foreign armed force would be allowed in without express written permission. There was a standoff, but the Libyans eventually accepted. |

NaijaNaWaa: seunmsg:As the French Embassy stated, they will initially submit their letters to the deputy director. This is so that their tenures can begin and they can start working. They will later present the letters to President Ramaphosa in a formal ceremony. |

Congratulations to him on this new assignment, and I hope he uses the office to strengthen relations between Nigeria and South Africa. The welfare of Nigerians living there should be a top priority, especially with some of the issues raised in this thread. |

KLEINBASS:Dont bet on that. Their foreign minister was seen jubilating with convicted Nigerian criminals in Ethiopia. Thats why they always deny any criminal involvement in SA but rather gaslight and call us jealous of them.

Congratulations to him on formally presenting his credentials. Whatever people think of his politics, this is a sensitive posting, and the real test will be how he handles consular issues, trade ties and the everyday concerns of Nigerians living in South Africa. The protocol debate around who received the letters matters less than whether the relationship becomes calmer and more productive for both countries. |
