Video: "Dimka's Confession". Watch on computer http://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=10200954389125674 Download on mobile phone www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1848574137813 The video begins with a shot of the Council. Chambers building at State House Dodan Barracks. There are soldiers in Land Rovers in front of the Council Chambers building. Then a sign is shown, which reads "SUPREME HEADQUARTERS DODAN BARRACKS". Lieutenant Colonel Suka Bukar Dimka is seated and surrounded by journalists and security operatives. They are all listening to an audio tape being played on a reel to reel tape machine. We hear Dimka's voice on the tape. He says, "but at least I. . . . .I want to talk. What ever is going to happen to me, I mean, let it happen to me, but I want. . . . . .I wanted to brief you myself. There was just some. . . .some" (inaudible), "Well I didn't have to know" (inaudible). "I thought at this initial stage, I'll continue to allow him to" (inaudible). "Anyway I. . . . .I thank you very much, actually, for having come". "In fact, if there's anybody that enjoys any. . . .any" (inaudible). Dimka is speaking in the next clip. He says, "Of course, being a soldier, I made it a point of duty that I own. . . I mean, I have an honour to maintain and I believe I have no reason at this stage to lie. So all that you have heard has been my recording. . .personal recording." The next clip shows a convoy of military trucks arriving the beach. Armed soldiers are seen milling around an armoured car. There's a huge crowd of civillians. Stakes have been erected at the beach in preparation for the executions. A black maria brings the prisoners to the beach. Dimka and the other prisoners are seen as they are being tied to the stake. The video ends. |

Some people believe that the coup was sponsored by the Americans and the British because Murtala's policies were in conflict with their own policies. Murtala donated our MiG 17 fighter jets to the Angolans and Mozambicans who felt threatened by South Africa. He then bought MiG 21 jets from the Soviet Union. However, that conflict was a proxy war between the West and the East. The Western Powers (US, UK, etc) supported South Africa and UNITA, while the Eastern Powers (Soviet Union, Cuba, etc) supported Dos Santos. There was the feeling that Murtala brought Nigeria closer to the Soviet Union. However, some also felt that the coup was sponsored by General Gowon and that it was a plot to bring him back to power. Another school of thought is that the coup was a palace coup by members of the regime, who felt that Murtala was not following their agreed script. It was believed that Dimka was just a fall guy. Lastly, others believe that the coup did not have any western connection and that it was not sponsored by General Gowon. They believe that the coup was simply the brainchild of the arrested coup plotters. Which school of thought is correct? We may never know. |

The British High Commissioner, Sir Martin Le Quesne, was expelled from Nigeria due to bad blood created when Nigeria demanded that General Gowon be extradited to Nigeria to answer questions about the coup. |
Yes. The military rule about coups. . . .MAKE SURE YOU SUCCEED!Success = government position. Failure = death (or if you are lucky, imprisonment). (Most people knew this rule back in the days of military rule. Even Babangida quoted this rule when he was head of state. It is an unwritten rule). |

naptu2: Yes. The military rule about coups. . . .MAKE SURE YOU SUCCEED!^^^Funny how this unwritten 'rule' always and only seems to favour the core north/moslems! I don't know how one can be talking of some unwritten 'rule' in a country that purports to be one 'just' and 'fair' nation.....a rule that allows someone to murder the Head of State in cold blood, yet such a person struts about with confidence? Some country indeed! |

Coup 1 Ifeajuna/Nzeogwu. Failed. Arrested (although the head of government, two premiers and several commanders were killed). Coup 2 Murtala/Danjuma/Adamu. Successful. Government positions (head of state, one regional governor and many civilians killed). Coup 3 Yar'Adua/Abdulai/Garba. Successful. Government positions. Coup 4 Dimka/Rabo/Dabang. Failed. Executed (head of state and other killed). Coup 5 Babangida/Abacha/Bako. Successful. Government positions (Bako was killed during the coup). Coup plot 6 Majors (I've forgotten their names). Vatsa roped in. Failed. Executed. Coup 7 Mukoro/Orkar/Nyiam. Failed. Orkar and others executed (Mukoro and Nyiam escaped). Coup 8. Abacha/Diya/(gosh I've forgotten his name). Successful. Government positions. (Some say coup 9) successful. Government positions/influence. (Abacha dead). Coup plot 10. Al Mustapha/naval officer (can't remember his name). Failed. Imprisoned. |

naptu2: I forgot to ask you, is Danjuma "core north" and "muslim"?^^^He's their foot soldier......an 'efulefu' of some sort! What's the present condition of his people (and Nigeria in general) for all the 'help' he gave to enthrone and solidify the core northen hegemony?.....his bank balance didn't fare too badly though. ![]() |

(Please be specific and provide names of the individuals). 3) I see you didn't say anything about Ifeajuna/Nzeogwu who also killed a head of government and other leaders, but were not executed. 4) You earlier alluded to the fact that Danjuma wasn't executed and you seemed to suggest that this was because he was a "core northerner" and "muslim", but I see you've now shifted your position Why did you shift your position? 5) Lastly, how many coups have been led by officers from "the core north"? |

Similarity between Al Mustapha and Dimka is amazing: Dimka was used by IBB and Obj to facilitate a covert bloody coup that assassinated Muritala Mohammed and smiled through out his ordeal until his final execution after he was made the sacrificial lamb, in order to deflect suspicion from Obj and IBB who were the real coup plotters. Al Mustapha was used by IBB to facilitate the covert coup that assassinated Abacha and he is smiling through out his imprisonment which looks likely to end with his execution. |

naptu2: 1) So, who are "his people"?^^^ 1- Middle-belt Christians; he's from Taraba state isn't he? 2- I've already answered this question in my previous response to you; go back and read it again. 3- In the 21st post on this thread, you stated: "Success = government position. Failure = death (or if you are lucky, imprisonment)" , so if you knew Ifeajuna/Nzeogwu weren't killed or imprisoned, why did you make the quoted statement?; my assertion was based on what you said. In any case, i wouldn't have lost any sleep if they were punished for their deeds, as i personally believe they were out of line in what they did; my grouse is that their doesn't seem to be a level playing field for all Nigerians guilty of the same crime; and if you remind me of some stupi/d 'unwritten rule' it just goes to show that the rule of law/constitution is not the final word that governs our actions in this country, and one could posit further that some (by virtue of where they're from or who they support) are above said law and that this country is one big joke! 4- By saying 'core north/moslems' please don't take that to mean 'core north and moslems' , rather i was referring to 'core north or moslems', with emphasis on the word or.....there's a difference! 5- Well there's the 'Gowon coup' (he was a lackey/puppet); Murtala coup; Buhari/Idiagbon coup (you could argue their part in this was about 55% and you wouldn't be far from the truth); Babangida coup; and finally, Abacha coup. |
