Participating In The NYSC Twice: Is It Allowed? by Jus4c: 1:55pm On May 10, 2013
I am about concluding my B.Eng programme, having gained admission via DE into 300L about two years ago.I had my HND certificate in Electrical-Electronics Engineering and went for the NYSC in 2009 but decided to go back to the university to obtain B.eng in order to be free from the "barriers" associated with HND certificate in Nigeria.
Now,I am considering going for mobilization again after my B.Eng programme. The reason for this action is to fit into any job advert that may be available. In some job advert for fresh graduate,it will be stated that'not more than two years post NYSC experience.'Meanwhile I have completed my NYSC four years back.In order to save myself of being constantly asked during the course of any interview that how come I took part in the NYSC scheme before graduating,I think I should go for the scheme again. It is also good to intimate you that I am currently working in a multinational, though as a junior staff.I was able to combine the service with my work in 2009 because I influenced my posting to the same state of residence and to a firm that showed understanding as regards my 'status'.So, I didn't I have any problemm or underwent any stress combining service with work.In fact the whole year passed as if nothing had happened. So,going for another service is not going to be a problem as I know how to go about it.
The major area I need an enlightenment on is the implication of doing this: whether it is written any where either in the NYSC act or constitution that it is not allowed.Personally,I have not seen it written anywhere but I need your advice on this.Once again the decision to do this again, not minding the associated stress,is to fit into any employment advert.I am waiting for your meaningful reply.Thanks.

I honestly think NYSC is a waste of time in the first place. Forget the peanuts, Serving a country that isn't willing to serve you is an absolute waste.

I know two people that did it twice. The guy served in Enugu after his HND. He was posted to Enugu again after his bsc.

Another friend of mine during my service year in Ogun state was on his second NYSC service year. I don't know if it is illegal or not but its quite common.

They are mostly strict on people who, after completing their nysc, they somehow manage to get re-deployed to serve again due to lack of job.

But with your new registration number (new jamb number, new matric number), you are entitled to go for service, its optional though.

But I'd recommend that you get re-deployed again for obvious reasons you stated above. You need to be considered as a young graduate and, like you said, most employment opportunities on line specifically put a restriction on how old your discharge certificate is.

Then you need the un-ending sex-capade at the orientation camp #just kidding cool#

People do it but why would you want to tie another one year of your life. You fit in to apply for any fresh graduate position since you are just coming out of the university and you can tell your prospective employer that since you have served once, you need not serve a second time.
Whenever I was graduating from the university in my time, I already had my NYSC discharge certificate because I was doing my HND alongside my BSc and served during that period and the good news was that while my mates were waiting for their call up letter, I had started working. You can even convince your interviewer that you are a focused person and that is why you had to go back for the BSc to enable you achieve your dreams.

The sooner you faced the world squarely, the better for you. Don't drag yourself backward by enlisting again, continue the onward match. Forget about the nysc, you have gone beyond that. Don't be afraid of the unknown.
Re: Participating In The NYSC Twice: Is It Allowed? by donted(m): 6:58pm On May 10, 2013
Bro, I had similar problem. I ran both HND and BSc concurrently. After my graduation, my name came out for February batch(A) for the HND during the course of the service my name also came out in November batch(C) for my BSc of the same year. I was advised to continue with my service and forget about the November batch cos is illegal to serve twice. NYSC certificate is the same whether is for HND or BSc authenticity is the most important thing.

Guy it is a law that you must not serve twice. However, this is naija. Consider the potential advantages and the disadvantages....... Like you could be detected and decamped (don't know if this has ever happened to anyone though) and you'll have two discharge cert. By and large, you'll always have some explaining to do when you go for interviews.
Re: Participating In The NYSC Twice: Is It Allowed? by doctokwus: 7:19pm On May 10, 2013
SilaV:

My brother, it is not an easy task at all. It's actually a full time progamme. My work location is not far from the campus and the nature of my work takes the format of a shift programme. So, if I am on night duty or off duty, which can fall on any day,I do attend lectures. When it becomes imperative for me to be around(e.g. writing of mid semester test or exam), I can obtain a casual leave or do swap of duty.A true HND graduate going for the same course should not have problem in reading and understanding courses he had taken before. There is nothing like 'runs' in the school and to the glory of God I am doing well:it is more or less like revision.
Then more grease.@topic,u av d cert already,it shud serve

I think it's in their rule that one can't serve twice.
But to be very sure, get your answer from the source. Walk to the State HQ of NYSC in any State you are & meet with probably their State Co-od.
