Time and again, Neymar had pointedly stated that he wants to play with Messi. I remember a time where he and Pele were stoking some flames; but just before Barca played Santos at the Club World Cup he changed his tune to one of respect for Messi and Barca. I think Dani Alves had something to do about that. And the demolition of Santos left him in no doubt about how Barca and Messi compared to both Santos and him.

Yes nothing is concrete, but Neymar does not rival Messi directly: his preference is to play from the wings. If country rivalry was an issue, Dani Alves would not be so supportive of Messi; and the partnership between Maradona and Careca would not have worked. Footballers as professionals know the difference between playing for club and country. This is a quote of what Neymar said a while back:

He obviously knows who the shot-caller is, and he will gradually step into that role as Messi's role dwindles in about 5 years from now.

By the way:

You are just too correct. I don't know why a lot of people think he would wanna rival Messi. Personally, I don't see it that way cause i know he adores the Argentine wizzard.

Neymar's father said his son would derive a greater pleasure playing with Messi for a day than playing with Cristiano for a whole season. What does that imprint in people's mind? I guess it means he reveres the Argentine demi-god and as such would be loyal to the core in order to learn a lot from him.

People should wait and see rather than speculating ********

Both players are good no doubt but having two captains on the same boat has been proven to lead to disaster time and again.

This totalbarca article captures my perspective on the way the current setup at FCB is treating young players coming through:

The Disregarded Youth - FC Barcelona

At least I'm glad he realizes everybody isn't like Messi. So what's the point of the article?

Is Messi the only player to come out of the youth ranks?
Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by Nobody: 12:39am On May 31, 2013
That article was one of the worst i read in Totalbarca though some people praised it as their best, for obvious reasons.

How can someone write such a disjointed article?

At one point she seemed to understand that the youth players may not be good enough, yet she still expect them to get a lion share of the playing time at another point. What club in the world will play those players that have not shown any new sign of promise ? It's seems hard for that writer to accept that La Masia will not be expected to be producing excellent players all the time.

I understand that there are a general frustration among alot of Barca fans since our big loss against Bayern, hence the growing apathy and hatred to Vilanova and this constant pointing of fingers here and there. But it should not make us cry babies.

Vilanova for me did his best given the circumstances. Pep in his first year did promote only Pedro and Busquet but they only started prominently in his 2nd year. This season, Thiago played over 30 matches and Tello played over 25 matches. Montoya and Bartra had there fair share as well. If these are not good enough then i don't know what is. If they cannot have patience and bid their time and learn from their seniors, they may as well leave and let me see them break into Madrid or Bayern first team.
Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by Nobody: 12:53am On May 31, 2013
I also know that it would have been these same fans that would have called for the head of Vilanova had he lost the league title but ensured he gave 'enough' playing time to the youth players.

We should not claim not to understand that there 's always pressure for coaches to hit the ground running in their maiden season with good performances and winning trophies and moreso for someone stepping into a big shoe like Guardiola's, hence his reluctance to use inexperienced youth players.

I am saying the article makes no point. It talks about giving the youth a chance; then it points out they all can't be like Messi. Of course that is the reason they are not being given the chance Messi was given!

Dippset will prefer getting the 100 points at the expense of trying new talents.

Look at Mourinho and Real Madrid this season.
When it was obvious getting the league is far from achievable Mr. Felix simply started fielding people that usually did not have enough chance last season.

So botomline Tito sacrificed youth players for the sake of 100 points, even when it was obvious the league has been won since last year.

Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by Nobody: 12:15am On Jun 02, 2013
1. We equalled the 100 points set by Madrid last season and we did that with ease. Malaga had no interest in derailing the team from reaching their objectives and the team had no interest in letting Malaga to dream.

2. Abidal played his last match for the club and what an emotional 15 mins it was! He'll now seek for pastures new and may return to the club when he retires as an executive.

3. Real Sociedad picked the last slot for champions league football next season ahead of Valencia, after their hard fought 1 nil win against Deportivo and Valencia's failure to win in Seville against Sevilla.

4. Talking about Deportivo, they alongside Zaragoza and Mallorca could not avoid the drop. They were all relegated in the last match day after their battle to stay afloat proved futile.
The identities of other teams that will earn promotion next season are not yet certain. But Elche will play in the Primera Division next year.

haba usb, wouldn't u have felt the same. League won since last year? We could very easily have been just 2 points ahead just sometime last month.

Neymar was unveiled as Barca player yesterday. He signed for 5 years and his buyout clause will be €190M.

I wish him a fruitful stay in Barca.
Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by dmcdad: 8:24am On Jun 04, 2013
^^^ Yes oooo. I streamed it live and it was very exciting watching his arrival, to his medicals, the actual signings and even when he came to the pitch to do some ball juggling and all that, before holding a press conference. He was really emotional with the kinda reception he got from the club and the fans..

I really wish him a fruitful playing career in Barcelona.

Visca Barca.

Abegi jare, the boy should come and show his stuff. Messi is a legend, but as recent events have shown, we need other top players that can rise up and do what he does.

Well, I hope you're also aware that Thiago's release clause has dropped to 18 million euros, from the 90 million figure set at the beginning of the season. This is a direct consequence of his not playing 60% of team games this season. Essentially, he can leave Barcelona quite easily this summer, as already clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, and even Man City have shown interest.

If he goes, and Cesc goes, I wonder if the plan is for Xavi to play till he's 40, like Puyol embarassed
The plan seems to be to sell all the promising youngsters (Cuenca, Tello, Thiago), the out-of-form-or-flavor players (Villa, Fabregas, Alves), and keep the old guard. Valdes (who will leave for free in June 2014, stupid move from the club if you ask me), Xavi and Puyol are all set to continue in their key roles next season.

Yet the club says they only need 'one or two players', yet they want to sell half the team embarassed
I rest my case sha angry

Who was sold to who? Or are you just basing your resentments on just mere rumours from the press? Are you actually minding them ? If there 's no story, they'll try to create one.

Thiago is not going anywhere. Even if he 's going, i won't lose any sleep!

For a young player like him who is competing with the best midfielders in the world and he still managed to play 36 games this season? If this is not good enough playing time (and he missed some games through injury), then i don't know what his frustration is.

When Xavi or Iniesta was his age, they were still learning under some other Barca midfielders. They had patience and now they are the best. If Thiago cannot have patience and bid his time, then he may go. Afterall, he is not offering Barca anything new. He's not any exceptional. I even think our next best midfielder from the youth team is Roberto.

But i'm certain Thiago is staying. Forget about his €18M buyout clause. It won't any difference.

Thiago will not get any increased playing time at those clubs. Yes, even at Man City he will warm the bench plenty; especially once he commits one of his foolish blunders while being fancy.

I share your views on this. As much we all believe THiago is a very good player, i do not see him thriving at any big club other than Barca. He might in some mid-table teams, but not one that challenges for the top. Not even Arsenal. He should stay and bid his time. He understands the club's playing philosophy and will certainly be an integral part of the team come next term.

The transfer of Valencia
defender Jeremy Mathieu (29)
is getting closer. He has the
right profile and is available for
low price. [md]

Marquinhos (not tall enough), David Luiz (sporting and Financial reasons) and Thiago Silva (Financial reasons) have all been ruled out.

I am kinda happy that we are now looking in laliga for defenders.

Jeremy Mathieu is a defender that can also play at left back. In fact, under Unai Emry, he was a menace for clubs like Barca, when playing at left back. But throughout last season, he featured prominently at centre back and had an excellent season there alongside Adli Rami. Barca want to sign both of them since Rami is younger(27) and also available at 10-12M euro and both are willing to play for Barca since Valencia could not qualify for Champions league and are in economic difficulty.

I still don't know why Valdes did not leave again. He is already a legend but honestly don't want him again.
And i don't know why Thiago should not be integrated into the team by now. All he needs is someone that really talk to him and change his mindset about the silly errors he commits in the course of his fancy display. Xavi is getting older and is fast loosing his pace. Fabregas too should βε̲̣ kept for another season and get two solid defenders. Anything short of this may not help the team come next season.

If Neymar is overrated, then every player is! People should give the guy a break! He 's not even kicked a ball alongside Messi, yet people are already seeing nothing but a failure.

Besides if you really want Sanchez and Fabregas to leave the club, then it's scarely to imagine what more you'll want the club to do.

It'll be better for the club if Valdes stays for one more season so that Stegen (if he joins) will understudy him for a year. It'll be calamitous to throw the young man into the deep point of the Nou camp and expect him not to crumble under pressure.

Xavi lost pace? Did he ever have one? That 's not been his strongest point. He may be getting old, but he still is the best passer of the ball in Europe. He even managed to be the highest chance creator in the just concluded season. So he's still the biggest play maker out there and you gonna show him some respect.

Thiago can leave if he wishes. For me, Sergio Roberto is the next Xavi, not him.
