Advice On Studying In Poland by abbie359(f): 9:02am On Jul 18, 2014
Hello nairalanders, I am currently living in Turkey learning their language. I need advice because i tried applying to the university of Jagiellonian in Krakow, Poland and i've been given admission. I've also gotten admission here in Turkey as well as in the UK at the university of Chester. My fear about UK is the cost of living but people keep saying its the best option because Poland is a communist country. I need advice please, what is your opinion and do you think I wont face problems that would be beyond what i can handle as a lady in Poland because i would really love to come to study in Poland......I have this special love for it and i don't know why exactly. please I have till next friday to make the decision concerning poland.
I just need advice and opinions, is it a good place for africans and what is the percentage of the language barrier.

Hello Abbie359

I lived in Poland for over one year in a city called Katowice (feb 2013 - march 2014), its about 1 hour by bus to Krakow but I'm very familiar with Krakow because I fly from there mostly and work there too. About your concerns about Poland or Krakow more specifically, I'll address it below.

True, Poland was a formal communist country, but not the present day Poland, as you might have known that Poland has been in the EU for over 10 years now and it is not hard to notice the drastic changes in the infrstructural level of the country, the amount of poles speaking foreign languages especially English, the numbers of foreigners and exchange student trooping in yearly and the economical growth of the country but this is not to say the country is to be compared with western europe because how would you be able to explain the two million poles that emigrated to UK? not to mention Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, the EU and Americas?

I dont think you will have any problem in Krakow, you just need to apply your common sense like you will do in every other places, you might notice people staring at you sometimes, but its more of curiousity and nothing more. Krakow is one of Poland most diverse city after Warsaw (not sure), There are many Nigerians and Africans there, there are also 100's of foreign student coming as an exchange student every semester, the streets are filled with tourist and many international companies too. You wont feel alone or uncomfortable there in as much you focus on the positive things, you will definitely be fine, I can assure you that. I go home from Parties with friends at 4am, walking the streets very late even alone sometimes and I felt very safe there. I cant tell this for smaller Polish cities but for Krakow, you will definitely not have any problems.

I will advice you you choose Krakow since its in Schengen, and you know what that means, I am sure the tuition fee will be cheaper compare to UK which is not even schengen but again, English degree are more respected than Polish degree. Krakow is a hub to many destinations in EU, you can fly very cheap with Rynnair to many destinations, you can also take bus to different countries if you like travelling, Poland is also very cheap to live in. You can get a nice room in a flat for as low as 500zl, and you might be spending about 1000zl (250e) for rent and food per month depending on how you spend.

Polish people are accomodating and nice, you should try as much as possible to learn their language, it will make you feel very comfortable there, in as much as you try to speak the language, you will notice the amount of openness and interest they will have in you.

I hope I helped, feel free to ask if you stil need more clarifications.

I dont know about Poznan, but its also one of big polish cities. There are almost no Job in Poland, Polish people are scattered all over EU in search for good paying job even menial ones, what more of an international student with little or less knowledge of Polish language? I see many foreigners teaching english language,if your friend can do that, it mya be a prefarbale route to earn some income while studying.

I am not a student in Poland, I was there for a contract job that last for one year. Sorry man, I know nothing about Rzerzow specifically too, but I can tell something about Poland if you ask. The only thing I know about Rzeszow is that my ex was from there, I think its about 2 hours by bus from Krakow, quite big but not very international compare to Krakow, wroclaw, Warsaw and even Katowice, but you'll be fine too. I've lived in smaller Polish cities and have no problem whatsoever.

You right bro, Poland is a very nice and peacefully country to live in.I studied in Warsaw 2008-2010, from where I moved to American. Memories of Poland makes me feel like going back for a visit..(i still dey in contact with my 2 whity babes)..yes they very pretty white girls who love black guys.

Getting a job as a student may not be easy, but if your gonna be. Based in Krakow or Warsaw, your chances are higher.my advices, look for a car wash company. This is though an energy sapping job will hive u enough time to go to school while making extra cash. And during summer, try and apply for summer holiday work to usa or Canada.(this adds more color to ur cv). Please don't not even going to UK.getting ur kpaly after studies. In Poland will be easier compared to any EU countrymen thinking of.

Yea I agree, e be like say the girls there get one kind special ifunanya for Dark guys, na the best place to flex for EU be that in my opinion grin why You come go America na? after all the beautiful Ania's, Agnieszka's, Olla and Weronika's? you dull mahn. But to get Pali for Poland na only through Marriage na, because almost no professional jobs there wey fit give foreigners permit especially if you no speak Polish.

Before going there, there was this sterotype about Poland been very racist with redneck since it was a former sovit states, but my experience there was otherwise. I felt like a local in warsaw since I learnt the basics of the language, and was very well accepted there, at least I felt. Do you know the city councellor in the city of Lodz was an Igbo man? his name is John Godson.

Very sorry but it is obvious that you are probably young and very naieve!
If you are thinking of going to another country to "wash cars"
You are a female and there is only one kind of work where you will be forced to end up in places like eastern Europe.

Geç yanıtlarken için beni affedin.
is your bank statement from a Turkish Bank? if it is, what matters is not just the amount in there but a "steady" influx of funds over the last 6-9months must be reflected.
the balance you also need in your account depends on the school and country you are applying to, each school has a finance/expense statement for international students and your balance should match or be equal to it for at least one year.
if your personal bank statement is not up to par with what I just stated, then you need your sponsors.

@worry359 no offence please but its obvious you just read through letters. i asked for advice and opinions on which to settle for and someone said something about working as a car wash, i then asked "can a lady work as that too?" tell me, does that mean i want to work as a car wash? word, i'm not too naive if at all i am to know it is almost impossible for a lady to work as a car wash

U won use Poland compare yanky? Man must not leave buy bread alone(woman) I don even enter Germany, Spain,Holland and France, but the very 1st hour i landed Newyork, i fell inlove with yanky! everybody dey flow with you, even if ur looking for a specific area, or location, people are ready to give u more than enough direction. I remember once looking for bestbuy in Baltimore, the elderly man i asked directed me to where i could get a Bus. i stood at the Bus stop for about 30mins and then a car pooled over, it was dsame guy who directed me minutes ago, and what did he tell me when he pulled over? he said " oh am sorry i forgot today was public holiday, the next bus comes in 1.5hrs, please i would love to drop you off"..

If u have to survive in foreign Land, information is vital, and when u dont understand the language spoken there, u go just dey look like mumu...so are fast learners but me i nor just get time, na bizness just full my head.
