even on his worst day, pique is better than masherano as a CB. at centre back masherano is a red card waiting to be shown, let's not get carried away. pique is also good in the air. if pique didnt play against apoel on match day one, we'd be on 1 point as we speak!
You are correct Bro.....
Mascherano should go fight out his place with Busquets.....I just hope Enrique won't go the way of Martino...

Honestly, after watching his exploit at the world cup, I never thought any coach would still play him as a defender. I just wish Lucho could go back to the world cop clips for a clue!
Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by Eruditor: 6:03pm On Oct 03, 2014
My problem was not the result even though I was pained by it. My problem was the tactics he employed (he meaning Lucho). Laurent Blanc came to do 3 things and all 3 worked to his advantage but what did Lucho do in response? He did the same darn thing we complained about last season- we passed and passed the ball aimlessly with no directness of play. It was disappointing.

Blanc came to counter-attack when we had possession. Use freekicks and corner kicks when avaliable and play the ball over the head of Alba to have run-ins with Moura. Didn't y'all notice that we had 5 corner kicks after the first half to PSGs 2 but they led 2-1? Did anyone notice how many times Moura took on Alba all day?

The sad thing is that when we face RM in October, Ancelloti would revert to the same counter-attacking football and we would look so frail and unprepared when it pertains to the corners. I know this because Lucho would do the same things he did against PSG.

I share sentiments with those who said Pique and Mathieu (both above 6'2) should have defended with Macherano as the holding Midfielder. For anything, we would have had good options defending the corners and also attacking ours when they were available. That's part of the pragmatism that I feared lucho lacked going by his Roma experience.

Let me also say that I am not condemning him based on one game but there's a problem with managers that like possession football: they don't seem to consider the situations where such will not work. We have already seen the snoozefest at Malaga and now this loss in Paris. What is to say we would fair any better against Sociedad and the Madrid teams this year?

I believe we can win the league this year too but I have removed my mind from the UCL. I implore you all to do same too. Cheers.

Busi suits the tiki-taka system well more than anyone. If we are to alter that system, I feel there is need also to alter the personnel that are much clinched to the system. If we are to take a more direct approach, Masche would be the man no doubt about that. But if we are to stick with tiki-taka as it were, then Masche displacing Busi would almost be impossible (at least for now).

I see no reasons why we can't create variant tactics as the game demands. Against a team like Madrid and the likes of Chelsea, Athletico and maybe City, I would play Masche in DM (irrespective of who else plays). Having someone like him to shield the back two (cause we don't have back four as our full backs are actual wingers in the real world) would really make a lot of sense and would bring abiut shield and steel to our backline.

Imagine the prospect of playing Masche in front of Bartra-Mathieu or Piqué-Mathieu. It gives an added assurance that the backline is as safe as being in heaven.

If Ibra were to be available for that match, Lucho would have started Piqué ahead of Masche to compensate for the lack of height of Masche and to be able to stand a better chance against PSG (in terms of height) with Ibra and Cavani very tall players, not to mention Luis, Marquinhos, and the likes of others who are tall players.

He (Lucho) sacrificed height for speed since Ibra was absent. I would say it was a poor decision on his part going by the conditions in place because he didn't consider other players aside Ibra who are tall too albeit not as tall as Ibra. Cavani is tall. And so is Luis, Marquinhos, Moura-Pastore-Veratti (not really sure about them though).

Anyway, like I stated before, we need to have varying tactics and strategies for different games. You can't play Granada this same way and expect it to work the same way against Madrid. I can bet it that in the Classico, Carlo would most certainly play a double-pivot to compensate for the absence of the veteran "Alonso". Why would he do that? Because Barca ain't Cordoba, Villareal or even Sociedad. He would alter his approach to better suit his team and to counter the approach of his opposition (Barca in this case). This is what I expect also when we play the big boys. Infact, to counter Madrid's plan as regards taking us on the break with just a few of our players at the back, I would play a double pivot of Masch-Busi. In this case, Masche especially would help to shield the backline while Busi does his normal job of breaking play and helping out in attack more with some forward passes. Added to this two would be Rakitić-Xavi or Iniesta, while we play two men up front in Neymessis.

Depending on the outcome of the game, it can later be altered with the inclusion of Luis suárez later on in the game(I'm very sure he won't be a starter in that match).

Lucho, what we need is tactical variation with less predictability.

Hopefully he gets 2 goals tomorrow. I know Rayo won't be a work-over, but it doesn't stop us from winning.

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Pedro Artola has
backed Claudio Bravo to "comfortably" beat
his record of minutes without conceding a
goal in La Liga.
Barca have yet to concede a goal in the
Spanish top flight in 2014-15, with summer
signing Bravo the preferred choice ahead of
fellow new keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The Chile international is just 21 minutes short of breaking Artola's long-standing
record of 560 minutes without conceding - a feat he achieved way back in the
1977-78 season.
