I am sure that Shirley Bassey is no stranger to many of us. She sang the Theme songs for Goldfinger(1964), Diamonds are forever (1971), Moonraker (1979) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Bassey Born 8 January 1937 to Henry Bassey, a sailor from Calabar who changed his name from Okon Bassey and settled in Tiger Bay (now Cardiff bay), Cardiff, Wales and marrying a Welsh woman Eliza Jane Start. moonraker: Tee-mac, a nigeria musician said it was our tragedy that we do not know of Fela Sowande (Commander of the British Empire), the Nigerian who composes European classical music. I guess we have exported surplus of talents abroad. Shirley Bassey(Dame of the British Empire) has a voice with an Efik or Cross Riverian/Akwa Ibom "twang" that has swooned Europeans. |

DaVinChiSam: After 2 years of getting to know about her, I realised that we have not valued our talents. Charley Boy once mentioned that for every Michael Jackson, he has three in his village. We are supposed to be the number 1 cultural exporter in the world. When Goldfinger (1964) was released to the cinemas, the entire budget was recovered within 2 weeks.
