Now Some people would think that this model would be wasted in life while her debater counterpart would go on to become more successful in life; but that's not how the society works.
What happened in Unilag is just a reflection of any typical society: entertainment generates more money than scholarship. Dbanj, Tuface, Basketmouth, etal were all endorsed by multinationals. The aim is simple: product and services marketing via modelling and entertainment and then consequent PROFIT.
The Nigerian corporate sector wants money, just as everyone else does. Corporate bodies are not Father Christmas or charity organizations. They sow where they want to reap. They know that the model is actually a better marketing target than the debater. They want returns for their shareholders and investors- not stories. Business is different from education and scholarship. The questions we should ask ourselves are: how truly interested in education and scholarship are our oil-rich governments? How much support have they shown? Yet they have extra billions to steal and maintain private jets... then turn around and expect struggling entrepreneurs to fund education and scholarship for the society.
It is the duty of the government to promote and fund education. Charitable organizations can also try to do their best in this direction. Folks this is a conventional world nobody pluck money from trees.

Education has few sponsors. As in the case of Cowbell's mathematics competition reward versus MTN project fame, Maltina dancehall etc.

Pitifully, all and sundry in the position to drive education to the el dorado, have lackadaisically acted. The society is not going to do everything for itself rather, it is the duty of the government to provide infrastructure. it is only when the government does something drastic about this shame that there will be a real change.

I valued the laptop than the car. I had an opportunity of
buying a car in 2009 but instead I bought a mini laptop and further in my academics . now I'm not employed but I earn 80k monthly via my mini laptop . laptop is a great asset and foundation of success ..

pretty cool write up...agree with you except for that part about The Government. So far, I've realised that the easiest thing to do is blame it on "The Government"...The Government.....this, The Government....that. Like you said and I agree, nobody plucks money from the trees, well, neither does the Government. The Government is made up of officials, these officials are humans, and they happen to be our folks, relatives, friend of a friend or folks of a friend, neighbours.......the list goes on. So when we say the Government, we shouldn't make it sound like it's some kinda alien we have no relationship with, but it all boils down to corruption, corruption by the present government officials, corruption by the opposition party, corruption even within the "aunty corruption agency"
