FORMER head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, has stated that his decision to vie for the presidency in the February 2015 general election on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) is informed by his desire to rescue Nigerians from the grip of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and to restore the country’s past glory.

Buhari stated this at the weekend, through an APC chieftain in Bauchi State, Alhaji Ali Saidu, at an occasion organised by his supporters, under aegis of Nigeria Solution Network For Buhari 2015, to raise funds to support the ambition.
Saidu said if Buhari was voted into power by Nigerians on the ticket of APC next year, the country would witness tremendous development.

According to him, “it’s high time Nigerians heaved a sigh of relief from the misrule of PDP,” adding that the country needed a leader like Buhari to move forward.

He lamented that the ruling PDP had failed to address the socio-economic problems of the country, noting that this contributed to the emergence of insurgency in the North-East, which had now become a major problem for the country.
“As you know, Buhari is not a corrupt public figure, who is rich to buy APC presidential form, so, as his supporters, we decided to put our hands together, including the masses, to enable him to buy it,” Saidu said.

According to him, this notwithstanding, the former head of state was not deterred in his determination to contest the presidential ticket of APC and, eventually, the presidential election in the 2015, adding that Buhari was ready to slug it out with any aspirant, regardless of his economic and political status.
