Now that Android 5.0 Lollipop has been revealed – something that will be available to anyone buying a Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 very soon – details of what to expect from various updated apps are starting to leak out, including Gmail 5.0. As well as something of a new look, it seems as though the latest version of the Gmail app will be able to cope with not only Gmail accounts, but also email accounts from other providers.

A video featured on Android Police indicates that it will be possible to access emails from Yahoo Mail, Outlook.com, and other providers. Switching between accounts will be possible through the left hand menu panel, where you can currently switch between different Gmail accounts. Now, rather than selecting from a vertical list of accounts, you now swipe sideways to move between email accounts.

Gmail 5.0 borrows ideas from other apps. A floating circular button provides always-available access to the email composition window, and the circular theme continues with the Google+ style avatars. Overall, there is a more colorful look to the app and Google's video describes the new look as 'fresh'.

Wow. I hope this makes it's way to Gmail for iOS too.
