In as much as the death of ONE innocent life is a painful loss, we must not encourage this trend by a section of the media on inflating casualty figures in order to cause tension and panic in the land while further discrediting our presidency. There was a blast in Gombe this morning and about eight people may have died but a section of our media quickly proclaimed that over 30 people have been killed, and expectedly the social media ran with this false report.

Here's (surprisingly) BBC's version of the story. I said surprisingly cos on a good day,the BBC would have claimed that 100 people had been killed.

At least eight people have died in an explosion at a major bus station in Gombe state in north-eastern Nigeria, witnesses have told the BBC.

Many people were injured in the rush hour blast in Gombe city, a hospital source said. Other witnesses spoke of three bags of explosives going off.

Gombe shares a border with three states placed under emergency rule to fight the Boko Haram Islamist insurgency.

The group has taken full control of Mubi, a commercial centre in Adamawa.

It is the largest town Boko Haram has taken since it stepped up its insurgency when the state of emergency was declared in May 2013 in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

Now I know Jonathan is clueless and lacks direction , just when NA were winning d war against insurgency he accepted a ceasefire . Now boko haram have re-strategised and regrouped , see wat dem BH boys ar doin nw . InstEad of Jonathan 2 attend 2 pressing national issues like d BH, he's busy fighting Tambuwal the wrong way . what's your problem and how does your comment relate with OP's topic header? Were you one of those 'rejoicing' and abusing the President when you heard over 30 people had been killed in Gombe or are you now sad that the casualty figures has been reduced downwards?
