Please and please, its not what you think! Am having problem on this mathematics problem! Please help answer this question and if possible show the working! Please! Well the question goes like this! if P , Q and R where given job to do, and P finishes the job in 4hours, Q in 8hours and R in 20hours! How long will it take P , Q and R to finish the job working together?

I doubt if this is a jamb question.. M sure it's a job interview or scholarship interview question.

Since p finishes the work 4hr and Q 8hr and R 20hrs

solution

P+ Q + R + = 32/3=10.6=10hr 6min

Guys, its not a jamb question, but just an assignment given to us! Anybody with idea should help pls

I will say the solution is 1 hour (I don't if I am correct), but think it is a simple ratio. Now,
the sum total of the time they worked is 4+8+20=32
The fraction of time they worked is P= 1/8, Q= 2/8, R= 5/8 .
And the time it take to finish the job if three of them worked together is
1/8 + 2/8 + 5/8 = 8/8 = 1 hour.

Take any two first

4*8 =32
4+8=12
32/12=2.6667

2.6667*20=53.34
2.6667+20=22.667

53.34/22.667=2.353 ANS

you're correct. But if you convert 2.353h to minute it'll give you 2h 21minute which is the correct answer.
