About 500 pullets I got from Zartech on 5th June, 2014 (over 21 weeks ago) have not started dropping. What could be the issue? NOTE: This won't be the first time I would be raising pullets. However, this would be the first I would procure from Zartech. The previous ones started dropping between the 16th and 19th, though I fed them ad lib, while this set have their feeding regulated. They are generally healthy with all the physical signs of a laying pullet, yet no eggs yet. Any piece advice? |

Wow @ 21 weeks and yet to drop their first eggs? It may be that the set you got were bad breeds since this isnt your first time at raising layers. However, get a Vet to inspect them just in case. Some years ago i bought broilers from the same source and you wouldnt believe it that at 12 weeks non of them had gotten up to 1kg. They just kept eating with a slow growth rate in return. Those were my worst breeding set so far. All the best to you |

check the feeding and increase their lighting. |

Thanks Uboma. Mercylicious. They are being fed the expected quantity. While, I had thought of supplying artificial light due to the shorter day-length, I decided against it in the interim as it is only advisable after the birds have started laying on their own. All the same, thanks a bunch |

Eggcelent:.. You can start light stimulatn when 80% have reached the target body weight of about 1.5kg. .. At most I know, some birds may start laying at 22wks. |

If you start light stimulation you must continue or else they production will never reach the peak and there will be a sharp post peak decline in production. I will suggest u increase their feeding (do not overfeed) and relax by 24 weeks they would have started to drop above pullet sized eggs and will reach their peak faster, just make sure the there is uniform growth within the flock. |

Eggcelent:please be kind enough to point out the reason for the delay in the birds laying what was done to correct it Also at what weeks did they begin to lay And production percentage that's if you still remember, thanks |

The Excessive Heat May Be A Contributory Factor To The Seeming Delay.Though There Is No Cause For Alarm Now Until Their 24th Week And They Dont Drop. Give Them Multivitamin With Amino Acid And A High Level Of Vit.C. Increase Their Feed A Little And Ensure Cool Drinking Water. |

Propene. As you rightly observed, I do not have vivid recollection of the items you asked about. However, I later discovered that the feeds I was using then was of poor quality & hence, accounted for the delay. I think the birds started laying on their 24th week & reached about 82% production after I changed the feeds. Thanks |
