I honestly had to laugh at the bolded, let's just say I believe in gender equity as opposed to gender equality wink

What is the difference between Equality and equity really?

All well and good.

It's always funny to me when women are quick to hate on gender equality. You can read and write, you can vote, you went to college to study things other than sewing, then you hate on gender equality??

You should thank women that spewed the "gender equality nonsense" in their days so that ungrateful people like you can come years later and call their struggle nonsense.

You need to go read the post you quoted again, you missed a word 'some'. As with all things that starts off good, some people have to come and ruin hard won battles and corrode the fundamental good with new age mumbo jumbo

Equality - Same value irrespective of properties and characteristics

Equity - Same value worked out on the basis of properties and characteristics.

This is not a feminist thread, so I will just let the "new age mumbo jumbo" fly.

I've always been surrounded by women. Lots of them. Right from birth and that virtually all of them were strong, independent goal- getters who raised their profiles significantly themselves over the course of their lives makes the concept of a strong woman a given for me.

I just cannot see myself living with any other specie of the female gender.

I think people should learn to screen out or separate the shaft than throw away the baby and bath water.

I am very grateful to the fore frontiers of feminists who made. the world a much better place for women.

I am proud to be a feminist cheesy

Women in the olding days stayed as women... They didn't allow westernization to take a hold of them. I think the writer should tell that to her self cos men would have to change cos ladies had changed. They aren't staying as women like their mothers did. They didn't allow westernization to take a hold of them just like you ladies of nowadays did. You ladies want to become what men are becomin, hence conflict of interest set in. The writer doesn't have a point cos ladies of nowadays doesn't like men controlin them, the same the old oyo kings/men does to their women....

Exactly! Bisi's life cannot be mapped on the basis of even mama Bisi. Bisi must be allowed to chart her own course based on her strengths, skills et al

Nigeria is very true when it comes to gender equality, everyone is entitled almost equally and almost same is expected.

Equality reigned in some ancient west african nations, in the Ogiso dynasty of Bini, women were ogisos, very absolute monarchs.
You guys have heard about Queen Idia of same Bini.

The last generation of strong women as defined by the OP is probabaly our mothers generation.Yes,we have had strong women in this country..women who were assets to their husbands and women who use subtle persuation to achieve what was deemed impossible. What we have in this generation is far from being perfect not that perfection is a quality I want to ascribe to the past generation of women the OP spoke of. The percentage of womem that can actually boast of being assets than liability in this modern times is dwindling. How man ladies can stand by their man when he is struggling with only a pocket full of dreams. How man can refuse the lure of the good life that their husbands cant provide but is offered by another man?How universities have become semi brothels because so many of ur daughter and sisters dont havet the will power to say no to irresponsible thieveing politicians. This geneartion is on the brink of failing to produce the the strenght men see in women that will make them(men) clinb mountains...swim against ocean currents and defy odds to win the heart of these women of virtue.I guess what men who dont want to get bogged down with repeated quarrels and embarrasment with women do is to look for a 'yes' woman. I challenge our women folk who think they are assets to stand up and see several sangos fight to win their hearts

they are still there o...you know how they say empty vessels make the most noise. If you're busy with life you're not likely to have the time to engage in all the bickering that goes on. It's easy to assume they've gone extinct because all you can see are the noisemakers but as a number of people have mentioned on this thread, you attract what you are. You shouldn't be looking for strong men in the midst of noisemakers, things don't work that way.

Equity is ideal, it speaks to understanding, to strive for equity you must first understand and then accept your strengths and weaknesses. When you fight for equality you refuse to take said strength and weaknesses into consideration.

Men and women are not the same, that women cannot do some things as well as men can do them does not make them any less important or valuable, that's equity.

Equality is what a man can do, a woman can do too, irregardless of whether it's clearly a lost battle or not.

No need for long story though. The society always finds a way to balance itself, no matter the level of chaos. Strong men; weak women. Weak men; strong women. Balance.

@naijababe

Big Sis, but King Sango wasn't a Nigerian, the last time I checked. And I believe he had many wives. So, I guess you wouldn't mind polygyny, no?

Also, in as much as I don't think I've the quintessential Nigerian"swag" and "pick-up lines" you alluded to cos my experience is different. But I think I can relate from a cultural perspective because I see the world through my father and Uncles' eyes. So, is it a case of the dearth of true Nigerian men, or a case of Nigerian women who have moved away from staying true to who they're? And rather than emulate their mothers, who're traditional in their outlook to life, they want to be everything else but that.

Out here for example, I don't know any naija guy who doesn't want a career woman, who's competitive. Also, wouldn't mind supporting her cos it's a thing of pride to have a successful partner/wife. However, most of these pseudo-modern lazy women don't want that. They just want to be belligerent and disrespectful - and a lot of them don't know how to act (it's also evident on this forum esp. this section). And to every action, there's always is an equal and opposite reaction (big ups to Sir Isaac Newton for that). So, perhaps these women are the catalyst for the dearth of that "true Nigerian men" you're looking for.

The world is a dynamic place, and when folks start changing in the way they interact with you - you just have to switch it up, or become a mug. Most guys out there want women who're like their mums, but they're extinct. I guess that's why they also had to switch it up for survival.
