Truncation of Democracy; a case of coup. Who ordered the deployment of Soldiers at the National Assembly complex?- Ifeduba The Nigeria Republic is operating what we call Separation of Powers between the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary. The reason for such separation of powers is to institutes check and Balances, curb a budding tyranist, Civilian Dictatorship and Usurpism. The duties and oversight functions of the National Assembly is clearly spell out in the constitution. If in fact that the Executive arm of Government headed by the Presidency deployed soldiers and police force at her discretion to physically molest and stop duely elected members of the National Assembly from carrying out their statutory responsiblity. Then its not only illegal but also an Impeachable offence " The role assigned in the Constitution to the legislature at both the federal and state levels (in section 4 (1) and (2) for the federal and section 4 (6) and (7) for the state legislatures) is mainly to make Laws. As part of the process of making Laws, each House of the National Assembly is given the power to summon before it and question a minister about the conduct of his ministry, particularly when the affairs of that ministry are under consideration. The power is given to the National Assembly in subsection (2) of section 67 which provides that: “(2) A minister of the Government of the Federation shall attend either House of the National Assembly if invited to explain to the House the conduct of his Ministry, and in particular when the affairs of that Ministry are under discussion”. A similar power is given to a State House of Assembly in subsection (2) of section 108 with respect to state commissioners. In addition to law-making, the upper chamber of the National Assembly is given a confirmatory role in certain appointments made by the President, such as those of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and other senior judicial officers, ministers, ambassadors, chairmen and members of certain executive bodies created for the Federation in section 153, requiring confirmation in section 154, of the Constitution. A declaration of war by Nigeria or of an emergency, whether in one State or in the Federation as a whole, also requires confirmation by the Senate. A State House of Assembly has a similar confirmatory role with respect to the appointment by the State Governor of the Chief Judge of the State, state commissioners and the chairmen and members of certain bodies created for the State in section 197 of the Constitution, requiring confirmation in section 198. ‘oversight functions’ of the Legislature. The legislators claim the power to conduct “oversight functions” under subsections (1) and (2) of section 88 of the Constitution with respect to the National Assembly and subsections (1) and (2) of section 128 with respect to State Assemblies. Nigerians need tangible explanation from the Police commision and the Presidency with respect to who order the deployment of police and soldiers to obstruct members of the Legislature from carrying out their constitutiona duties to the good and law abiding people of Nigeria who elect them. Who ordered the deployment of Soldiers at the National Assembly complex?- IfedubaTo start with, no soldier was deployed, only policemen on the orders of the IG, the basis of your argument is flaw hence the whole write up is a wash. Police don't plan coup and the IG has the right to act in any area he feels that security will be compromised, in a reasonable system, upon the receipt of such intel, the legislature works together with the police to contain the threat but if the legislature is the threat itself then the place has to be locked down pending a political solution to the situation. Even the President of the US must simply follow orders of the secret service whenever there is a threat |

The op is the most inconsistent Nigerian I have ever known. just yesterday you opened a thread praising Gej and condemning this same people and I remembered how you always shout Sai Ngige that time before the man lost his election but less than a week after he lost the election you switched camp to Apga and now you are anti Apga but pro PDP. I won't be surprised when you switch your allegiance to Buhari that you have criticizing for ages now. |

Abiolacicero:objectivity is the word not inconsistency.unbiased reporting i still stand by my word that two wrongs dont make a right. Its wrong for the Apc lawmakers to crawl and jump over gates like tout i suggested they should have gotten court eviction orders . We have critised them now is the time to ask the crucial question WHO ORDER SUCH DEPLOYMENT AND UNDER WHICH CONSTITUTIONAL POWERS? the problem is that Nigerians definition of party loyalty is supporting every action of the party whether legal or Illegal |
