A former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, on Thursday condemned President Goodluck Jonathan for not showing the right leadership in the manner he had been handling his responsibilities as the nation’s leader. He spoke at the sixth Christopher Kolade Symposium organised by the Nigeria Leadership Initiative, an organisation he was a pioneer patron. He made specific reference to Jonathan’s decision to honour a political rally in Kano shortly after a bombing that killed several people early in the year, saying the best he could have done was “to postpone the political event.” For choosing to continue with the programme, he said, the President did not demonstrate that he was sensitive to the pains of the people. While chiding the campaigns of pro-Jonathan non-governmental organisations, the respected statesman said, “Nigeria was, at every other time, better than now.” He said those who said the country “had never been this good” were lying, and that at over 80 years he could tell that the country had a robust history. He lamented the drift in leadership quality, a situation that he said should worry Nigerians. “If we get to a point when we do not care how the country is led, we have lost hope. The country is where it is today because some people sacrificed. Unfortunately, beyond stealing, our leaders are not ready to sacrifice anything,” he said. Kolade said he took up a responsibility to lead the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme to demonstrate his love for the country. Rejecting the appointment, he said, would have amounted to wishing the initiative failure. He said he rejected allowance offer because he was financially stable. The second reason, according to him, was to enable him to quit when he noticed it was not going to succeed without the hassle of “waiting till end of the month to collect allowance.” The former envoy said no Nigerian was happy with the leadership style and the manner the public institutions were operated. He, however, said many had not made up their minds on what they would accept, tolerate or resist. Read more: http://www.punchng.com/news/youve-not-shown-leadership-kolade-tells-jonathan/ |

Kolade and Obasanjo are same persons. We should expect more of such open blasting from Obadanjo's men except for intervention by five PDP governors yesterday |

Kolade through Obasanjo's recommendation was given the opportunity to touch lives through SURE-P. Obasanjo asked him to quit when he started having problems with Jonathan. But some of Obasanjo's men in this government are still doing so well eg Minister of Agric - Adesina Former Minister of Foreign Affairs did his best but had health challenges. Loyalty does not mean Kolade should follow Obj to the grave |

Some of you criticizing Dr. Kolade have not even achieved 50% of what he has achieved in and out of government. This is one of the rare cases where the message and the messenger is important. |

RockMaxi:Nobody has criticised Kolade. He is a loyal OBJ's man, we know. Have some of you that criticise Jonathan achieved 2% of what he has achieved? |

Please who is Christopher Kolade? Is he by anyway related to Joseph the Capenter? Cos we don't know him here in Bethlehem. |

gregg2:This is the problem with you jonathan's bootlickers who see every criticism of the foolishness of his government as a curse instead for him to see it as an avenue to re-arrange his brain into taking decisive decisions. Stop crying about everyone hating Jonathan whether yorubas, hausas or even Americans, Nigerians want a president who will provide security, jobs, make lives better for them etc not a re't'ard who is been controlled by that fat ugly thing. |

rebranded:Every enlightened, honest and unbiased local and international observer of what's happening in Nigeria would reach the same conclusions as this seasoned and respected diplomat, and that is, GEJ does not show enough concern, talk less of the right leadership, in his handling of the terrorist attacks by BH. Even when such attacks claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent citizens of the country he is supposed to be leading, the impression he has been giving to Nigerians and the world at large is that of an unconcerned, cold-hearted, irresponsive or even irresponsible figure-head. No wonder he had to defend himself earlier this week in Kano, through his VP, that he (JEG) and his government were not behind the BH killings in the North! This rather strange defence by the president must have come after he had realized how more and more Northerners, both Muslims and Christians, are becoming more vocal in their exasperation at the government's inability to protect them against the brutalities of the BH savages; and their frustration is increasingly turning into suspicion that the GEJ's government, or at least some elements within it who harbour an undying pent-up desire for vengeance against the Northern Muslims and Christians alike (for some historical reasons), are using their positions in the government 'to allow the Notrh to bleed too'. Although there might not be any truth in all such allegations, yet it is a fact that GEJ's ineptitude and lack of purposeful and committed leadership during, and in the aftermath of, the killings in the North, has clearly created a huge leadership vacuum and divided this country like never before, as a result of which the fertile ground was prepared for all these dangerous suspicions emanating from the North. |
