Ronaldo dives in the box, is awarded an extremely unfair penalty, gets up and takes it with his jittery run, and goes off to have a subdued (by his standards) goal celebration.

MAN UTD fans (on this site) believe this is their want-away hero playing fairly, and celebrate his fair play!

Fergie has this to say

Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Manchester United were offered a questionable penalty this afternoon, but insists that referee Rob Styles owes the club more than that decision.

http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=885001

"I was surprised because it looked as though their lad got a foot on the ball," said Ferguson.

"But Rob Styles turned us down four or five times last year so maybe it is payback time. But he still owes us another four."

@ dayokanu,

there was contact. that is the decisive factor.

jlloyd samuel's trailing leg caught ronaldo and he fell.

ronaldo cannot be held responsible for rob style's decisions.

like sir alex said, rob styles denied man united 10 genuine penalty claims last season so these things even out.

the dynamic duo.

they are back to defend the title.

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by dayokanu(m): 4:03pm On Sep 28, 2008
"I was surprised because it looked as though their lad got a foot on the ball," said Ferguson

Ferguson even admits the guy touched the ball first. There can be contact as long as you touch the ball first in a challenge, its legal

Denying you last season means he should give back dubious decisions this season? Are you kidding ?
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by superstan(m): 4:06pm On Sep 28, 2008
@ dayokanu,

these decisions even out.

when a referee don't give genuine penalties, he would give dubious ones.

last season, ronaldo had 3 genuine claims against newcastle at old trafford(the 6-0 bashing) and rob styles turned them down.

the freekick he gave(the one ronaldo scored from-man united's first goal) was dubious. this happened after he turned down 4 genuine claims.

ronaldo did not ask for the penalty and he did not dive. the trailing leg of jlloyd samuel was enough to bring a speeding ronaldo down.

For the love of gawd, are we still on this? It was a legal tackle, but Styles awarded a penalty. How was either Fergie or Ronny to know the man was going to do that? And Fergie's statement doesn't necessarily mean hez in support of dubious penalties being awarded. . . . .all hez saying is,''the ref shouldn't have awarded a penalty, but he did.Styles has denied us a lot anyway so he owes us. . .whether he makes them genuine or dubious is his headache''.

How is that declaring undying support for dubious penalties?? I think you're twisting Fergie's meaning here. So what should he do now, appeal to the FA to cancel the penalty and change the scoreline to 1 - 0? cheesy

It wasnt a penalty . . . . .It wasnt a dive . . . . .END OF STORY!!!!

i have seen softer ones given at the emirates.

eduardo won his team a penalty last season at the emirates and it was the most dubious i have seen on tv.

penalty or no penalty, united would still win the match.

@DDK

what the coaches think on the lines does not matter cos the refs decision is final, whether its the right call or not.

now you can quote Fergie, but if he said otherwise based on what he saw/feels bout a decision not favouring man u, will u Quote him? I think not.

Like Stan says, this things even out, and Fergie was just being cynical with his statement of Rob owing us decisions.

fergie is the grandmaster of english football.

he threw down the gauntlet and told the media rob styles owes him 4 penalty decisions.

i am just happy the team is now showing what they can do to opponents.

the bench is strong, everyone is happy and players are very fresh.

what can we say about evra? bought for 4.5 million(his acquisition was a steal). he is the best left back in the world.

Ronaldo has temporarily relinquished his grip as the best diver on the planet that honor now goes to Wilson Palacios of Wigan Athletic and if you saw the game between Wigan and Man City you would agree with me

I think Bayern have to advertise and look for a seasoned diver who can win us penalties easily

That might be the difference in our season between winning and losing games.

Advert: bayern needs a seasoned diver. can you recommend anyone?

Football is no longer a sport for gentlemen its a sport for rogues

Imagine a Miro Klose who went to tell the ref that he should cancel a penalty that was awarded to him that he fell and was not brought down.

and the penalty was duly revoked

Soccer is not a game for Born again. If Kaka had learnt how to dive properly like C.Ronaldo tongue tongue he might have avoided all those injuries

Reds set off for Denmark

Gary Neville and Owen Hargreaves did not travel with the rest of the Reds squad, who set off for Denmark on Monday morning.

The Reds face Aalborg in the Champions League on Tuesday night and Sir Alex has taken an otherwise strong 20-man squad with him.

Sir Alex said on Saturday that Owen Hargreaves felt a recurrence of the knee injury that has hampered his United career.

Reds skipper Neville came through the weekend's 2-0 win over Bolton seemingly unscathed, but his absence from the squad will see Wes Brown return to right-back.

Aalborg are the unknown quantity in Group E. However, the Danish champions, managed by Bruce Rioch, earned an impressive point in Glasgow on Matchday 1 with a goalless draw at Celtic.

Hargo Hargo, why must you always disappoint when we need you? sad Get well soon sha.

I'm not gon' miss Gary that much anyway. . .Brown is a good RB.

Who knows anything about Aalborg and their players? Strengths, weaknesses, strike-force,etc. I hope Fergie's selection for tomorrow does the job nice and tidy.
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by superstan(m): 5:05pm On Sep 29, 2008
@ cristalz,

way to go.

united have a fit squad.

i am still wondering why manucho didn't travel tho.

sir alex will beat aalborg, ronaldo and rooney are too angry now not to get a result in denmark.

4-0 is my prediction.
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cristalz(f): 5:49pm On Sep 29, 2008
@Stan

Perhaps Manucho isn't fully fit yet undecided

Roon and Ron angry? grin Funny. Let's hope the anger turns out to be very productive in front of goal.

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Cristalz(f): 6:38pm On Sep 29, 2008
Nah. . .his case is not like Saha's. . .its just his knee problem that keeps coming back
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by chamotex(m): 7:03pm On Sep 29, 2008
Exactly, the same knee problem (isnt that a sign of concern) This is prolly the 6th re-occurence and even the 3rd time this season alone and we are still in Sept . . . . . . . .most of Saha's injuries were with his knee. Thats what he started with.

I mean if the guy needs surgery, they should let him have it done now. If something like that keeps reoccuring, doesnt that mean surgery or how is it going to be cured? This manual treatment hasn't worked.

On his day, Hargo is one of the best at what he does . . . . im always happy everytime i see him in the team. How long are we going to wait for??

give him time.

when the going got tough last season, he delivered in the crucial games.

vidic got injured, brown moved to the centre and who did we rely on to play as a right back? owen hargreaves.

he played in three different positions last season. right back, right wing, holding midfielder.

hargreaves gives his best when others struggle. i will rather have him playing for us than against us.
