In 2011, i voted for Jonathan and not PDP as president.

I voted for fashola and not for APC for governor of lagos state.

In 2015, Im voting for Buhari (lord knows i hate APC like a talkative woman-thanks to a tax eating ex governor) for president.

Im also voting for Jimi Agbage (despite being in the generally known "satanic party" ) for governor of lagos state.

I need change somehow in this country!

What is it again?

I heard over the radio yesterday that the rumored planned strike by PENGASSAN was false. I heard the PENGASSAN spokesman himself saying it on Rythm fm.
So were is this news coming from?

Am tired of hearing strike today, strike tomorrow.

No... not the masses, but we mustn't blame all industrial actions on government, some of the unions can just embark on strike just to show they have an upper hand.

These guys have made it a habit to threaten successive governments with strike action around every December, knowing that the government may be forced to concede in order to prevent petrol scarcity during the Yuletide season.

They have gotten too powerful and need to be curtailed.
Didn't you read in that uploaded letter that the FG had been notified since October but trust Oga Jona na, 2015 on his mind.

There was this other guy that quoted me, he said "ASUU strike loading",well, I told him that he could be right in that aspect because FG most times don't honour their agreement with the education sector, in your own case, you said "state government",Now that's a different ball game, I was specifically referring to the FG in the case of NUPENG and PENGASSAN.
Besides, they're doing this because it's yuletide season, and the government will want to yield to their demands.

be it state government or federal . They are all government.
And we shouldnt refer to one sector as an important sector or a priority as oil and health is placed.
And how are you so sure, that it is because, we are in the yuletide season

Have you not observed it?...They waited till now, because the demand for fuel will be high and the government will have no choice than succumb to their demands, it affects everyone, even the rich in the society that's why their strike actions do not last long.

I admire d fact dat you re one of d most reasonable chaps here. Always been...

By d way, why re they even striking sef?? If it is to 'force' d govt nd d national assembly to pass d PIB like I heard sm time back, I fully support; if it is for any 'selfish' workers demand, I oppose it

For those asking for the reasons for the strike action, here they are:

The Nigeria oil workers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior StaffAssociation (PENGASSAN), today began an indefinite strike to push for their demands over unfairlabour practices, ability of the government to carry out turn around maintenance of the refineries and others.
The unions said they were protesting government’s inability to reduce pump prices of petroleum products in line with the slump in global prices of crude oil.
The strike according to the union was also to ensure that the government evolve new strategies to combat pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft that have impacted negatively on the nation’s economy and employment in the country.
Other reasons for the strike are the delay in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), global crude oil prices slump, non-implementation of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act to reflect Nigerians in management positions and expatriate quota law, appalling state of access roads to refineries and oil depots’ facilities, insecurity all over the country that has led to the death of their members, appointments in government agencies in disregards to succession planning, compulsory deduction from workers’ salaries for the National Housing Fund (NHF), casualisation and contract staffing and unfairlabour practice by companies and government agencies.
The unfairlabour practices listed by the oil workers also include transfer and termination of national officers of the two unions.
In a statement made available by the unions, the strike will affect all operations in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry, as members will be withdrawn from all oil and gas installations.
The unions said that all members have been fully mobilized to embark on an indefinite strike from today, adding that the strike will not be suspended until there is a strong commitment from the government and affected managements/operators to resolve the issues.
According to NUPENG and PENGASSAN, the government has refused to honour all engagementsand agreements reached with them on all their issues of concerns including the turn around maintenance of the refineries and ensuring adequate supply of crude oil to the refineries to ensure that they function effectively and efficiently.
The unions also demand that the government should put in place alternative strategies to stop pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft, convene an industry stakeholders’ forum on PIB status and fallingcrude oil prices and address the ongoing high rate divestment in the industry and its attendant job losses.
On casualisation and contract staffing, NUPENG and PENGASSAN demand immediate conversion of all contract staffto regular staffin accordance with the approved Contract, Casualand Outsourcing in the Oil and Gas Industry Guidelines
NUPENG President, Igwe Achese said specifically in Okrika, Rivers state yesterday that Total Nigeria would have to recall its member, Elo Ogbonde, a Zonal officer elected for the Port Harcourt zone in July this year, but subsequently posted out to Lagos in August.
“It was done to punish her and to make her lose her seat, but our position is that the strike which begins in the Port Harcourt zone tomorrow will not be called of until she is recalled. It will not be fair for any employers to undermine the rights of the workers to elect their leaders, this despite all the interventions by the Ministries”, he said.
