Major SK Umaru was killed yesterday Wednesday December 17th during a battle with Boko Haram militants. Described as a committed soldier, Umaru told friends when he was posted to the war front recently that he was ready for whatever his mission brings him. Sadly, it brought death. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

But my question is, why is it that it is majorly the death of senior ranking military officers in the fight against BH that the media reports and pay tribute to? What about the low ranking ones that die every day and we never get the chance to know and pay tribute to?

I look forward to the day we begin to celebrate our recruits, privates and sergeants etc, too.

Meanwhile, May God grant the family to bear the loss and give our leaders the wisdom and might to stem the tide of the Boko Haram menace. Amen.
