Being a pilot is one of the most glamorous profession in the world. I have spent a while in the aviation industry living the dream and have seen my fellow nigerians burn their foot in a bid to fulfilling their life ambition,some of this things I have highlighted to help those still nursing the ambition of trying to become a pilot.
1). Passion: aviation is one of the most stressful thing to venture into especially in the United state. It comes with a lot of reading and hard Work and that can make you give up the dream if you are not very passionate about what you wanna be.
2).Funds: This have always been the enemy of every aspiring pilot worldwide. Being a pilot is an expensive dream,to fulfill it you must have mapped out a Good plan on how to sponsor yourself.if you are family sponsored ensure the funds will come in to time,a lot of pilots have their dreams buried in the durgeon of frustration cos of irregular supply.Never overlook this as you plan to Start training. Think of loan,scholarship etc,explore all your options and be prayerful
3).Avoid distractions: ladies,clubs, and guys and their attachments to pilots go together from time memorial.Student pilot all over the world tend to flex,at a point many a time some tend to abandon their initial training. Don't make such a mistake! Your dream is more important than your flex
4). Unrealistic expectations: many people think pilots get all the millions,check your figures well before going to learn how to fly on the motivation of an heavy pay check.the pay is not commensurate to the stress of the training.
5).Don't let flight schools steal your money: a couple of light schools in the US have been screwing people's balls since 1820,lol.Don't rush to just any school.I have seen a lot of peeps lose some hard earned money to flight schools in the past.some notorious ones are in Florida;watch before you leap.
6)never fail a flight exam or check ride: it enters into your record for life and whenever you go for a job interview it might hunt you or make someone else the preferred.
Finally to a lot of people the sky is the limit,to the lover of aviation the sky is home.See you there!

Some nigerian states sponsor people, airlines sponsor people rarely in Nigeria though but am aware Bristow sponsors graduate every year to become an helicopter pilot.check online for other opportunities to know which option suites you the best
