Contrary to one report that Ogun State generates N1.5bn monthly which made FP, N1.5bn is actually what the state generates in one week

Mods do the needful

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, said his administration has set a target of N10 billion as its monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), up from the current N6 billion.

Amosun spoke on Tuesday during a Town Hall Meeting on the 2015 budget held at Kuto, Abeokuta.

He explained that it was the only way the state government could survive the dwindling allocation from the Federation Account.

Amosun, while fielding questions from stakeholders at the event, said the new target would take effect from 2015 and would not in any way inconvenience the people.

He disclosed that funds from the Federation Account had been dwindling since 2011 and explained that it worsened to the extent that many states found it difficult to pay their workers.

The wage bill of the state, he added, including allowances, had risen to about N8 billion monthly adding that “only Ogun and Lagos states now generate revenue exceeding the allocation from the Federation Account”.

“What the administration is doing is to make Ogun State the economic hub of the nation ahead of Lagos State,” he said.

He expressed happiness that the state had begun to take its pride of place in the comity of nations with the recent classification as the industrial capital of Nigeria.

“What we are doing today is to take stock and see how far we have gone and those things we need to do better by further listening to our people.

“Ogun will get to a time when it will be auto-driven, system driven so that governors will not have difficulty in making things happen, they will not have difficulty in paying salaries and doing all of those and I am happy we are taking our prime position in the comity of nations.

“We are now the industrial capital of Nigeria but what we intend doing is to make Ogun State the economic capital of Nigeria, we want to challenge Lagos.

“The Finance Minister had confirmed that there are challenges in revenue accruing from oil due to oil theft and, as we are speaking, they are yet to pay us, the only way we can pay salaries is to think outside the box and see how we can improve our IGR.

“We are increasing the IGR without unnecessarily inconveniencing our people, the target is N10 billion by next year because there is no way our wages will exceed N10 billion. With this, we will not rely on the Federal Government again, but we still have a big challenge to pay our salaries,” Amosun added.

Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mrs. Oluwande Muoyo, said the Amosun administration “believes strongly in participatory democracy and has always carried the people along in the process of preparing the state’s annual budget”.

While highlighting the various achievements of the administration, she noted that according to the 2014 World Bank Report on Doing Business in Nigeria, Ogun State was listed as one of the five most improved states in the country.

“The same World Bank in its 2008 and 2010 Reports had ranked the state as one of the lowest performers among the 36 states in Nigeria. No doubt, this is a significant progress,” she added.

This is what we are talking about. With IGR of N6b monthly, Ogun State Government is on course to turn the gateway state into another eldorado. The state actually have slight advantage over Lagos, and may overtake Lagos state in few years.

Ogun state have lands available for industries to thrive, cheap and accessible land, ever ready labour force, favorable tax system, the political will by the government and it is the alternative hub of working class residents of Lagos state. Lagos is "condensed", Ogun State is expanding and its location put it at advantage for those willing to do business between Lagos, and other South Western states.

if Ogun state was generating N6B monthly ,Ogin state would have been listed as the 3rd /third richest state in Nigeria after lagos and Rivers but every one know that Ogun state ranks below 7 richest state and it it rated below delta, Edo , Akwa Ibom in revenue Generation .

The report from daily independent is fallacious and lacks depth.

To finally settle the controversies about ogun IGR here is a report from their website

http://ogunstate.gov.ng/media-centre-66/ogun-news/776-ogun-increases-igr-reduces-dependence-on-monthly-federal-allocation.html

The Chairman of IRS, Mr. Babajide Odubanjo made disclosure while defending the next year’s budget of his agency said that the agency planned to generate N28b into government coffers in the next fiscal year

from this projection Ogun state can be seen to be generating below 20 B / year which makes the earlier post

This is not about chestbeating rather a reliable and verifiable presentation to OGUN State House of Assembly.

According to the proposed 2015 budget, the Government made an emphatic quote and affirmed before the hallowed chamber that he can only account for N15 billion generated in ten months.

If Ogun State 2015 budget is passed on this premise then it is now official.

The Ogun Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) said on Tuesday that it generated N15.14 billion between January and October.

The Chairman of the service, Mr Babajide Odubanjo, said this in Abeokuta while defending the 2015 budget proposal of the agency before the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Odubanjo said that the revenue was raised from stamp duty, articulated vehicles dealers permits and licences, road taxes and tax investigations.

He told the lawmakers that the agency was expected to generate N36.77billion in 2015.

The chairman said the agency had proposed N1.5billion as its total expenditure made up of N400million projected capital expenditure and N1.1billion recurrent expenditure.

He said that the major target of the agency in 2015 was to improve tax revenue by 50 per cent.

In her presentation, the General Manager, Ogun Water Corporation, Alhaja Monsurat Agboola, said the provision of water would be improved upon across the three senatorial zones of the state.

Agboola said that the corporation would recapture all customers that had been disconnected on a result of massive road construction in the state.

She said that the agency would increase the number of its customers from 517,093 to 1,084,186.

The general manager explained that rehabilitation of water facilities would be carried out at water schemes at Ijebu Imushin, Wasimi, Ikene, Ipokia, Ilishan, Owode Egba, Ajilete, old Ota, Igan Alade and Imeko.

She said that the corporation had proposed a total expenditure of N4.8billion in 2015 with N3.5billion earmarked for capital expenditure and N1.3billion projected as recurrent expenditure.

Can you reconcile whatever claims you quoted above with this futuristic target made during the budget presentation?

He told the lawmakers that the agency was expected to generate N36.77billion in 2015

From the 2015 projection, the monthly target is even N3 billion.

Convince us on why the excess you are claiming is not accounted for even during budget presentation.
