networkgenuis: That doesn't mean economic contagion, contrary to what Obama would want the world to believe. After all Nigeria devalued the currency in order to meet-up with their budget needs. So in this case the west is helping Russia do that all for free. Kudos! |

vedaxcool:With the fall or rubbles I think they are playing into the hands of Vlad, !1) Vlad can afford now to increase wages and pension in Russia to match inflation. This alone adds to his approval rating a home. 2) Weak Rubbles makes Russian energy less expensive and more desirable by outside countries. That also implies that the cost of producing of the oil is less while American shale industry has a larger cost of production. With $200billion trade suplus and a reserve of $400billion I personally feel that they can weather the storm. Remember they recently increased their Gold reserve and they have a lower dept per GDP compared to America. |

vedaxcool: what you said does not make any sense whatsoever. no counter points, just normal incoherent rant. why not tell us why you think the end is near? the rouble is rebounding since yesterday after capital control measures were introduced. China has offered to increase currency swaps. So what reality are you talking about? |

The points here are that economy saction has two-side effects the person who stops buying & someone who stops selling will be both effected it may start with seller who stops selling & ends with buyers who stops buying. principle of double entry account is applicable to this. The U.S & her allies are also losing much to it but you know that the devils are very good at manipulating of economy. they will not come out to tell u they are losing because they know where to manipulate everything. however, U.S/ALLIES losses are longterm because other countries are learning to be independent of the devils. |

Aigipan: Stop taking China serious on Russias woe, the Chinese are just trying to be friendly with Russia. But US is China's biggest market and they will do everything to protect it. Putins arrogancy brought Russia these problems. The world has gone beyond Putins gragra and stronghead, when he has nothing to offer. Countries must be very crafty and diplomatic to survive any crisis and that is the strength of the US and other western government. 1 Like |

Wallie: Lmao...it's a new year, let the sleeping dog lie. Just leave it yeah. And stop telling porkies. Isn't this the same forum where folks who can't barely feed themselves talk about being billionaires? Folks who can barely articulate anything based on Sec. Sch level claim all kinds of things? Same forum where someone who isn't even 30 yet claimed to have worked for Bill Clinton in 1998? Folks who can't even pass the prerequisite to get into any grad. sch. claim they've MSc. degrees? If I were you, I'll let last year go with last year, especially since folks from your neck of the woods and those educated there, are known to be more of brawn than brains. Don't piss me off. Happy New Year, Wall.e. Just read more and learn how to be a critical thinker without bias. It helps a lot. |

SirShymex: We all have biases; the key is to be aware of them and try to correct for them. Try staying above the fray and win people over with your superior arguments and not personal attacks, especially when it seems unprovoked. You seem better than that! Anyway, that was last year like you said. This year presents a new opportunity for us all to be better. Happy New Year! |

@sirshymex, how does Africa fit into this whole global scheme? What's africa's place? How do we shape things in world politics? |
Re: Obama: Vladimir Putin Is No 'chess Master' by Nobody: 4:10pm On Jan 23, 2015 |
craziebone: I'll be honest, brother. We're inconsequential. Global politics is about power-play and sphere of influence, and we lack both in the real sense. We're more of an appendage to the world, albeit the resources we bring to the table can't be overlooked. However, we don't control those resources, and we can be easily manipulated. 1 Like |

vodkat: Yes but also due to the sanction imposed on them, Russia's action while exposing western hypocrisy still remains illegal and untenable, picking a fight with your neighbour because they choose their own path shows an extreme lack of foresight, Russia once again reminded all its neighbours of it muderous past during the USSR reign! |

Dictatorships have their advantages over democracies (decisions and executions are done much more quickly). But ultimately any dictatorship will fail. It was dictatorship that allowed Stalin to murder tens of millions of innocent Russians and it was dictatorship that allowed Gorbachev to transform a superpower into a basket case in just one day. In a dictatorship everything changes when a new ruler comes to power; but not so in a democracy, where things are more stable and balanced and there are many centers of power besides the president (parliament, media, courts, NGOs, public opinion, local governments, etc). Putin might be patriotic and even smart, but he can go crazy any moment or his successor might go crazy, and the Russian people won't be able to do anything about it because Russia is now a dictatorship, and its elections are fake. Russia has around 23% of all the natural resources of planet earth. It's not only oil and gas. There are plenty of precious metals, rare earth metals, diamonds, fresh water, wood, coal, fish, building material, etc. Russia is the only country on earth with borders very close to all three global economic centers (North America, Western Europe and East Asia). If Russia had a Western mentality it could take advantage of its geological and geographical advantages to become the richest country in the world, with the highest GDP per capita in the world. We would all be speaking Russian by now, instead of English. But instead of developing his country from inside, Putin tries to use force abroad. maybe to divert the attention from his economic failure. Even China moved away from communist dictatorship to a capitalistic technocracy ruled by a group of people with the power to balance and check each other. In Russia there is no one to check or balance Czar Putin. |

SirShymex: if we are inconsequential, what do you say about Israel? Israel is small, do not have so many minerals yet, they are reconed with. Why can't Africa be more significant? |
Re: Obama: Vladimir Putin Is No 'chess Master' by Volksfuhrer(m): 11:47pm On Jan 25, 2015 |
I believe Putin goofed by annexing Crimea. Perhaps he didn't factor the extent the West would go with sanctions, thinking they wouldn't have the nerve! Yes, NATO has been building bridges across Eastern Europe after the Cold War, but I've got to concede that Ukraine was a bridge too many. Nevertheless, by hastily annexing Crimea he showed too much of his hand to the West who of course responded thereto. I wouldn't blame them, nobody wants another Napoleon or Hitler in his back garden. Some have argued that Putin acted thus to protect Russian borders and waters from NATO's activities. Well said. But that's just a subterfuge. Putin was a former KGB man who resented Russia's declining influence in Eastern Europe, and Ukraine just happened to be the last straw . I believe Putin has delusion of grandeur: he just could not pass off an opportunity to cement his name as one of Russia's greatest leaders. Anyhow this still begs the question, 'did Putin really need to annex Crimea to protect his country?' Are we saying, the super genius in Putin could not find a less forceful way to achieve the same result? Putin could have leveraged his vast economic ties with Europe and certain back channels to effect a much friendlier solution. But he was too proud to go that route. Well, he is on his own, the cost to the Russians is high, and whatever Putin is doing now is damage control. Finally, I quite agree that Obama's comments were pretty shallow for an American President. Apparently, Putin is not the only leader suffering from delusion of grandeur. |

SirShymex: but don't you think the same goes for all of global south? Is Isreal more significant than Africa?why do world leaders seem to fear Bibi? |
